I'm not sure if this should be in the Plot Forums... but it's here anyway! Take THAT! >=D

All right, so in my story, my newest plot development is the main character becoming cursed with a sickness by one of the main enemies. This sickness is unlike any other, as the main character is a 'Phantom' and is already dead, so cannot die. Instead, the enemy is rapidly weakening him with this sickness which prevents the luxury we all know as sleep.

Yea, pretty torturous, I thought so too >.< The main character can no longer sleep until he can find some sort of cure...

So I'm wondering, how many other people have used the Sickness plot development before? If so, was it a unique sickness? Or something more normal, such as the flu? Let me know, I'm quite curious...

Also! If you have any suggestions for a good name for my sickness... that'd be helpful too ^^' Leave me somethin'!

Question: Why does your main character need to sleep? He's already dead, so why would he need to engage in the act of sleeping, which is a way for the physical body to regain its strength?

Not trying to bash of flame, dear, just curious as to how that works.

As for your other question, I've used illness a few times. It's more used as a tool to explain certain events, though. For instance, the sickness I use in my current projects only attacks mages--there's something about their physical makeup that differs from regular people. So, naturally, people who get it are exposed as mages. It was also an epidemic that wiped out a third of a nation's population, which of course gave other countries reason to dislike the first nation.

I'm a fan of persecution and mass genocied in my stories--what can I say?

To answer your question, I actually use sickness in a lot of my stories. I mainly use mental illnesses, mostly because it makes a chaacter more interesting, and I kill my characters by illness most of the time. I don't know why I love to use illnesses in my stories. Maybe it's because, in my opinion, being sick to the point of going to die is the most painful way to die. The reason is because when you're sick to the point of being weak or in so much pain brings so much tragedy in my eyes, because no one would expect it. Like how you wouldn't suspect your best friend being murdered, or something like that.
