We're called "Savages" by anthropologists, dangerous to people who have nothing but heard of our existence. I am the leader of my tribe and because of that passed down the tales of my people. I am not savage, you can call our "less-learned" a little crazy, but we were once humans and retain thought.
It began several centuries before, in the mountains we called the Den. We were all alone and hunted what we could without leaving the safety provided by the rock and caves. We were not industrious, we were primitive, yet we got along. As armour, we began to wear our ancestor’s bones as a sign of respect among ourselves; that began the wearing of bones. It caught on as we used our dead for tools, armour, and jewellery. Slowly we expanded as resources grew thin, moving down into the valleys and further into swamps. Here we found plentiful food and a pleasant climate, so we stayed. Others were foolish enough to venture into the far-off lands, but somehow found survival in the deserts empty niche of real decomposers that were not needed due to the winds and sand.
We slowly found more of our kind from our original tribe that had formed others, and eventually claimed a identity. 'Bone Walkers,' just, "listen to the shamble and know you're dead." I won't deny that axiom, but we haven't died off and we live alright. So if you come into our territory, don't expect a warm welcome. My brethren have a fascination with ripping out bones from their victims. Mean while, I'll sit here, educate an eager child, and one day tell them the tale that they will passed on to the next generation that wear my polished white bones.
