Mmm. Well for my BoS I wrote something about "karma returning threefold to those who read this uninvited" in runes. Sort of like a warning/promise if that helps.

I just put a glamor on mine, so that anyone who sees it won't care to look closer. Pearls and poppy seeds I find are good glamor spell boosters. Plus, I make sure to do the obvious and keep it in a safe place.

I have two spells
The one I wrote
Sprinkle the book with lavender, rosemary and vervain Charge the book with protective energies Recite then write out in the front cover or one of the first pages
Beware the urge to take a look Within this private book This warning I send to thee This book belongs to mine and me That which welcome us here For all others instills fear Sending them away Come what may
The second that was shared by a friend on a forum I was a member of years ago
These Words are mine alone Fashioned deep within my bone Each picture, thought and quote you see Are all reflections of what is me Beware the urge to take this book Or read in some private nook Because it's magic is not blind And I will know you've touched what's mine

^-^ So umm, this is the spell I used from a old book I had found. If I manage to find it again, I will happily tell you it. I really like this one, and all you baically have to do is focus your energy and say it while your hands are over your book. I also like to write it down on the last page of my book, but that's just me.
Blessing of the Book of Shadows
Hearken as the witches' word calls to All, a gulf to ford. Bridge the vast realities, An it harm none, do as ye please.
Elements protect and guard this book, From wandering eyes and prying looks. Fill it with thine ancient power, In this right and ready hour.
Powers of North, the East below, Help me to live, to learn, to grow. Lend your strength and stability, To practice the Craft and with love be free.
Powers of East, the Wind, the Sky, Watch over these pages with thine eye. Your wisdom and knowledge, for these I do ask, That this book be worthy of the Craft and its task.
Powers of South, Fire, and the Hearth, Help these Shadows to prove their worth. Infuse them with all your Healing and Passion, So only good comes from the Work that is fashioned.
Powers of West, the Water and Sea, Change and growth are granted by thee. Bless these pages with all that you know, That righteous readers may learn and grow.
And to the unschooled eye that see Confusing words and sophistry, Lead them from these sacred pages, And bless their passage through the ages.
For free will of all, And harm of none, As I have willed it, It is now done.
So mote it be!

This pickled vegetable...From what are you protecting your BoS? Theft? Damage? Snoopers? For a spell to work it has to be a little more specific than just "protect this". ... could kick your a** !!

Very basically, I wrote down a little thing in mine, asked certain Gods for protection from negative energies, unwanted readers and guidance on what is good info and what isn't.

I wrote the Book Blessing in it.Besides doing that, you can also put your dominant hand over it and say the blessing.Outloud or to yourself,it really doesn't make a difference.

In general, though, I just leave it out in plain sight. For some reason people are not urged to touch anything that is in plain sight of them. It's when something is hidden that they feel the urge to take a peek inside.

I went the offensive in protecint my book, and placed a ward to bring revenge on those who sneek their way into it's pages. Of course, it's hidden and given a blessing to keep others from looking for it, as well.
My parents wouldn't approve of my learning the Craft, so I have to be careful with my book.

I find that a small, concealable key-locking box does the trick wink
And a generous dose of valerian will turn away even the bravest soul in warm weather. 3nodding
Seriously, though. I find it useful to visualize the name literally - that the book is wrapped in shadows, fuses with them and becomes its own hiding spot, a little patch of negative space. People's eyes tend to slide right over it, if it's not too ornately designed, or of unusual or eye-catching material(s), when I just do a visualization like that! (I've done this with many books/objects in my apartment, in the past.)

Why valerian? Isn't it just an eromatic? Unless it's got some property in working spells I don't know about.
