Every beginning of a school year, my bd would make the entire band play their headjoints/mouthpieces.... for warm ups...every morning.. up until early spring.

I had to listen to the clarinets because my section was behind them. (I'm a flute.)

I adore the majestic sound from the clarinet. But the noise coming from the mouthpiece itself.. makes my ears bleed since I listen had to listen to it every morning.

No hate towards the clarinet! Just how my bd makes us use headjoints and mouthpieces to warm up!

Dude nothing is worse when another person in your section that you really don't like makes your ears bleed everytime he attempts to play altissimo.... like if you though piccilos high notes were earsplitting, try listening to really, really bad altissimo...

You're a sax player? My boyfriend is trying to learn altissimo, unfortunatly through trial and error... he's a fabulous musician, I'm not just saying that, he too is in Woodwind Ensamble as a freshman, but THAT MAKES MY PICCOLO LOOK SMOOTH AND NOT OBNOXIOUS.
>_>
I love him, but high notes are not his forte. Nor are dynamics. (hah!)

I'll listen to every begginer out there except for trumpets. I don't even want to listen to trumpets in my own band. But I honestly don't mind. My cousin just got out of beggining band. He plays alto sax (:

I HATE listening to beginers! All they do is complaine about it being to hot outside, during band camp. Then when they play it makes my ears bleed. Most noobs have no idea wht they're doing! Then when they mess up they blaim it on the insturment!

I used to sit right in front of the french horn player, he has not played the french horn since six grade. He moved away then came back in the middle of 8th grade. And decided to play it again. I wanted to kill myself when he played! It was terrible.
The he complained about the director and mostly everything else.

Soooo.... NO.NO.NO. Listening to beginers is not something that I like to do.

my brother decided this summer that he's going to join marching band, even though he has no musical background whatsoever..
so he joined percussion and he's gone to a few summer practices. but all he ever does at home is bang his drum sticks on anything and everything..
i just want to punch him and tell him to be quiet hahaha. sweatdrop

I went to work with some middle schoolers last year (it was kind of required...since i was band captain and all. recruitment. >.> ) and listening to them play....made me realize how much better the high school band sounded. I went from thinking we needed a lot of improvement to thinking we were the best band in the world lmao. Of course, after a week I was back to thinking we needed lots of improvement...but still. xD

LOL, most of my freshmen were like that last year. No matter how many times you tell them "stay set", "stay at our stand-by position, don't talk", "stop moving T_x" it didn't ever work. =P

I must listen to beginners because at my school there are three bands, beginning, concert, and synphonic(the one im in).The beginners at my school are great... and the new bassoonist in the beginning band is doing fantastic(as you can guess im a bassoonist). I love beginners because they hear theyre own mistakes... and when they hear that, they usually try to correct it! wink
