I read about this a few weeks ago.
Apparently something similar happened with the quake that caused that tsunami in 2004. I don't think it's really that big of a deal as far as the grand scheme of earth events goes.

As far as the Human-Earth events go. It still is fairly huge.

lol your title for the thread was so misleading. i thought you meant earth started rotating in the opposite direction and was gonna ask why the sun still rises in the same spot lol. it is a crazy event but i don't think much of it because earth has been actively changing for millions of years, the only difference is that now we are here to record it.

Oh yeah, it was huge as far as human events go, but it only shortened our days by a fraction of a fraction of a second, making it fairly unimportant to the Earth as a whole.

There have been stronger quakes than that. The 2004 tsunami was way stronger.

God Emperor Akhenaton There have been stronger quakes than that. The 2004 tsunami was way stronger. You need strong quake + proper geographical location to= axis shift.

Chile is near the equator. That's about the most stable place it can be. Not to mention that the Earth is a sphere and not only was the Indian ocean Quake near the equator as well, it was stronger and it happened only 5 days after the winter solstice. That should have made it more effective than the one recently. Not to mention the strongest earthquake ever recorded was at the fault line near Chile
