LOVE.
Uh, i mean, i seriously love Final Fantasy VIII. It's actually one of the only reasons i fan-drool obsessively with FF as a whole(don't get me wrong, but it was the only one that managed to grab my attention from start to finish, and yes, i did play FF7), and as a plus it was my first RPG, so there's that. The junction system was interesting, GF animations were superb(though a bit long when you've viewed the same one over 30 times), and Triple Triad was the best time-killer in my recent memory. The storyline was also awesome and deeply emotional. While it didn't bring me to actual tears(unlike FFX-2 - real macho moment there), Eyes on Me is still brilliant.
Of course, the game was too easy, especially considering other FFs. Messing around with abilities and items, you could junction 100 Firagas to Squall's Str before disc 2, making the rest of the game a walk in the park. But eh, i can overlook that.

Loved this game! I thought the romance was really sweet ("Give me a hug").
The cut scenes had good graphics and I loved the development of the characters. biggrin

To me, it was an alright game.
I'm still rather confused about the storyline since anything that has to do with messing with time just perplexes me. I find that the characters are forgettable; I can't seem to be able to "care" or to "connect" with any of them, aside from Squall cause he's my favorite. Oh, how I hate the junctioning system >_<

I love viii. The characters are good, the story is great, but most of all, I love the system. The fact that a mini-game like Triple Triad has such a crucial role in the actual gameplay, with modding the cards into items, and then into magic that you junction to your characters, is amazing. The junction system itself is completely unique. I also love the fact that you never have to worry about running out of mp during a battle...just the spells themselves, lol.

Definitely all great aspects to Final fantasy 8.. only annoying part at times is trying to gather all the magic to junction at times

Yeah, some of the best magic you can't get until later in the game.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to disagree with everyone on this one, as I really did not like Final Fantasy VIII. I do respect all of your opinions and reasons for liking the game, and whether if one likes or dislikes a particular game in the series is relative.

That being said, my reasons for not liking the game. Many people said they can relate to Squall, I cannot, to me his is a huge personality minus and is very unlikable. The rest of the main cast didn't impress me that much either, most of them I found annoying. The story seemed rushed and unfinished, as if they threw a random concept together without properly thinking through it and developing it.

I'll give them props on trying out a different system and trying something new, but battle system wise the draw system isn't as good as regular MP, it is broken as hell and if you know how to work the system it is the most broken one in any FF game and makes the game very easy to beat.

I can go into more details why I don't like this game but I'll leave it off here. Out of the 4 Playstation 1 FF games, (VII, VIII, IX and Tactics) VIII was my least favorite of the bunch, arguably one of my least favorite FF games overall.
