PSH! I love these people in a hilarious way. XD
I will joke around with them, too, sometimes.
Say things like
" Yeah man, and blacks are crazy android soldiers from Vietnam."
or just some random stuff the average old man hates.
It is understandable, though. Old people are in self denial like my grandmother. She thinks she isn't racist to black people even though she says ****** twice a day to someone who is black and has a Confederate soldier manikin in her house.

Because the average person thinks Christians are Catholic

Catholics are Christians but Christians are not necessarily Catholic. To deny that Catholics are Christian is laughable and just another form of inter-religion discrimination that is so prevalent, especially from the Baptists.

DaikonNairu -Ren-
I met a man the other day, some fanatical Christian, who said that single mothers would burn in Hell. WTF? Someone please explain this to me.

I will approach it from Christian theology, as that is what I subscribe to.

Sex outside of marriage is sin. Children are, obviously, products of sex. (And some medical stuff too.) However, I'm not sure that this is where this man's issue was coming from.

The spot to address here is probably divorce, which is only permitted in the case of adultery. I would think he is assuming that this mother committed adultery, got pregnant, and was divorced because of it. That would be sin on the part of the woman.
However, it wouldn't be very Christlike of the husband to divorce the wife (though it is permitted) as the marriage relationship mirrors the Christ / Church relationship. The church commits adultery against Christ, and He does not "divorce" us.
I have found nothing in the scriptures that says raising a child as a single mother is sin. Unwise, yes, though not always.

Catharia
Ahhh, born-again zealots.
This lot seem to think they have to prove their piousness to everyone by decrying everything that could be even slightly immoral (not saying sex before marriage is, but y'know the whole paternity she-bang from earlier).

I tend to piss this sort of person off by talking about Ba'al, my cats, and how much the pope looks like Emperor Palpatine.

That reminds me of the time I accidentally scared away some Jehova's witnesses.

I just got out of the shower when I heard a knock on the door. My dog isn't hostile, but barks at strangers. So, she starts barking, so I open the door to see two Jehova's witnesses. They look at eachother and are like "Um... here's a pamphlet." and hurriedly leave. I was like "Huh, that wasn't so bad." I then realize what I was wearing- Here's what they saw.

A long haired 20 year old wearing a Star of David necklace and red shirt with a hammer and sickle in the middle of it, in his boxers, holding back a snarling and barking dog. Oops.

Oh, I guess I worded that wrong. I didn't mean that Catholics aren't Christian. (They believe in Christ and all) I just meant that the pope is so commonly attacked and he only applies to one Christian denomination.

Upon further research I answered my own question. Look at these statistics. Attacking the pope is literally attacking more then half of the Christians.
