My first instrument was a cornet in 6th grade. After that in 8th grade My new band director switched me over to Baritone B.C. (And I am loving it now!) As of right now for concert season I am currently playing Tuba. I'm gonna play tuba for concert and sight reading as well. Also I am learning marimba for percussion ensemble. My band director and percussion section leader says I won't have a hard time learning it cuz I play by ear. But the big question is do I stay on baritone or switch to Sousa for marching band next year? eek

I'm working on officially switching from flute to percussion. I've actually already been playing percussion for 3 years now, so it's not a big deal, but I still play flute in class.
I even made All County on mallets. biggrin

I don't know if this is much of a switch, but I went from clarinet to bass clarinet for concert band (replacing a junior, apparantly from other members, I play much better than her for a freshman XD). But I'm also clarinet and I occasionally switch to trumpet in jazz band. Right now, I'm trying to learn trombone, flute, and alto sax.

Well, wellll I went from playing clarinet to tenor sax. biggrin Not a very uncommon switch, but there was a time period of about two weeks when I was supposed to learn alto. Hurhur.
I still play clarinet every so often, but I just love the jazzy capability of the tenor and its darkness in tone.

I played Trumpet until 9th grade, this year, when my BD told us about the lip curl and how it affects some instruments, and I realized I did, so I asked and got switched to French Horn and I freaking love it. I play every day. My BD says I was made for it, and I'll definitely move up. I'm first chair even though I started playing at christmastime. I love my horn buddies smile

Actually I switched a lot last school year. First, I had to swith from flute to trumpet (thank goodness I already knew how to play it) and then after marching season, I was permanently put on french horn.
I've come to enjoy playing the horn so it was a win-win situation in some ways.

I've switched quite a bit, and even doubled some. I started out with RCM piano independent of school. I played alto saxophone in grade 6. I tried to join band in grade 7, but they didn't have enough altos, and they stuck em on clarinet. I tried that for a few months, and eventually stopped going. My grade 7 music was non-instrumental, I took private lessons. In grade 8, I played alto again. I kept up alto through Grade 9 and 10; at Grade 11, I played piano for the jazz orchestra and alto for the concert band. This year, I'm jumping back and forth between alto and keyboard for jazz razz

I switched from clarinet to bass clarinet in the middle of 7th grade. I remember before lessons, my band director talked to me privately and asked me if I was interested.
