I was listening to a music video of Angelic Layer to "Y'all Ready," when I thought this would be a good RP to make. (I'll make one for the Sailor Scouts later, sorry. ^^; ) Anyway...
This RP calls for several characters. You may double up on characters, but just so it doesn't get confusing, please limit yourself to two, and either use separate posts for each character, or color-code them, or otherwise indicate where you are changing characters, ESPECIALLY when they aren't in the same location. (As I was typing this, that video suddenly started to play again, even though it was stopped. Guess my laptop's haunted. >.> )
If you don't know anything about Angelic Layer, here's a quick description. First off, it's a manga centering on a battling doll system (kinda like battling robots); I'll just give you the description of the game part, rather than the manga:

An Angel is a doll (about the size of Barbie) you buy from a store called Piffle Princess. The doll is naked, curled up in an egg-shaped capsule filled with an unidentifiable liquid. When you buy the doll, you should buy the materials for the clothing and accessories. With the doll comes a mini-computer which you use to set configure your doll: height, build, speed, etc., but the rest of the details-- hair, clothing, and accessories-- are for you to work on by hand. Once you've configured your doll, sewn her (or his) clothes, and fashioned her hair, she's ready for battle.
Battles take place at a specialized arcade, full of round tables called a "Layer". (I think it was supposed to be "Lair," which in Japanese is pronounced "Layer"...) The person operating the Angel is called a Deus (meaning "god"). Opponents sit at either end of the table, facing each other. You put on a helmet (with wires which are attached to the table), and as soon as you throw (yes, throw) your doll onto the Layer, she will move around as you will her to. She cannot talk at all, and she cannot move without your mental commands. (She has an antenna or two attached somewhere, wherever you placed it, so she can receive your commands.)
You have to think fast in order for your doll to act, as getting even the slightest bit distracted will cause her to plop lifeless onto the table, thus giving your opponent free reign in the fight. Many kinds of fighting styles are used; you just move in a way you think is advantageous to you in the fight. Also, there is a sort of energy field surrounding the table; if your doll gets knocked out of the energy field, or she runs out of hit points, you will lose the game.
Tournaments are held in a huge civic building, where winning a battle is now dependent on elimination rounds. In the final matches, the Layer is transformed and sprouts a lifelike terrain. It is the final match that your Angel may grow wings, able to fly as you will it, and battle now takes on a third dimension.

I suggest watching at least the first three or four episodes for some ideas if you haven't already. I am still going to try to make this as newcomer-friendly as I can. ^_^ In short, it's pretty much like Smash Brothers, but without any items. Yes, it is angled more towards girls than anything, but this RP is open for either gender; in fact, I'd really appreciate more of a male slant to this one. ^^; This will be a dice-based system. Since the battles will always be one-on-one, we need a way to determine winners fairly, so we will be using dice to determine the outcome. I will write up the rules on this later, but I promise keep it simple.
Oh, and one more note: While the RP will rely heavily on the doll battles, the story will also include events for the Deuses themselves to respond to between battles and such. It is common (and encouraged) for Deuses to communicate during battle in the arcade (the Layers in the official tournaments are quite large, so I don't know about those). Remember that you are playing a character who is playing a character (thus the 2-character-- and by that I mean 2 Deus-- limit).
For now, if you want to join, just give me your name as Deus, your Angel's name, and a short description of your character no longer than 4 or 5 lines. Mainly, I want a description of what your character's goal and drives are. I'll go over the rest of the details before we open the RP. You may play another non-Deus character, but for the sake of the battle portions of the RP, plan to have at least one Deus/ Angel team. (No Sailor Scouts, please; also, if you've seen the anime/ read the manga, no RPing as canon characters; looking for original characters, please). The story will take place in a common location, such as downtown Tokyo, or Walla-walla, or Tattooine or something.
I'll start with mine:
Deus: Bernadette Olivier
Angel: Zelda
Description: 17-year-old Bernadette has some experience in Angelic Layer, but she had to give up the game to raise her younger sister when their parents died. Now that her sister is a little older and has taken an interest in Angelic Layer, Bernadette wants to be there to guide and support her along the way. While she dreams of one day being champion, she would be just as happy if her sister can take that title instead.
I may also play a number of undisclosed NPCs as I see fit to move the story along, but I will not be god-modding (in other words, I will not play other angels who are placed in the game specifically to beat any of you). They will remain as background characters, such as players at other tables, referee-type characters, an employee at Piffle Princess, etc.
