Depends on what path you're following. Different paths have different rules. I'm eclectic, I've got my own unique path. I don't really have rules like "harm none, do as ye will". I've never heard anything about harming the elder tree though.

IF any one knows a good in depth website about this please link it to me It's actually " an it harm none, do as ye will". It changes the meaning significantly if you drop those two words out wink And it's not a rule; it's advice. What warnings against black magic? Who makes these warnings, and for what purpose? The elder tree? Have you been reading the "Wiccan Rede" poem? It's just a poem; it's not a real set of rules.

IF any one knows a good in depth website about this please link it to me Any moral or ethical standards that you apply to your study and magic is up to you. If you are eclectic any moral or ethical system you wish to follow is up to you. If you are trying to follow a specific tradition than obviously it would be whatever codes that tradition ascribes to. If you are eclectic and would like study the codes of various faiths to piece together your own you might want to look over the variations of the 10 Commandments, the 8 Fold Path, and 5 Tenets of Zen Buddhism.

Through your journey, you will find that any rules that people give you about your practice you will want to change, and bend to fit your own personal purposes. I would advise that you be careful with the things you do while you're beginning and slowly expand and make boundaries for yourself. You will know what is right for you. You are the one who has to live with the consequences of your actions, magickal or otherwise. You make your own rules, but make sure that the choices you make are ones you can live with. Just like in normal interactions, things will catch up with you. (This relates closely to the law of three and "ye harm none..." ) I'm sure you'll figure it out in time.

Ok, I might get flak for this. I don't care. Here are my personal rules.
1. Roll with Mistress's/Goddess's whims. 2. The Golden Rule of spirituality and beliefs is don't push your s**t onto people that don't want it. 3. Black magic is something you should know to some degree AFTER AFTER AFTER you have mastered the basics so you can better defend/better spot. 4. Black magic is like a loaded gun. The responsible gun owner doesn't shoot someone simply because they can. They understand the power to take a life/ruin someone's life isn't to be used lightly. There WILL be repercussions if misused AT ALL. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND KNOW HOW TO HANDLE IT. 5. Laugh at yourself, the world and everything around you because the universe has one sadistic sense of humor.
Those are the five rules I can think of off the top of my head. That's just me though. Different people believe different things. Like, the threefold law is a popular one. I personally have a hard time buying into that. It doesn't bother me that others do though.
You see, no one can tell you what your proper path is. You figure that out on your own. We all walk different paths. If you move someone to your path against their will or disrupt the reality of their path. You are trying to directly interfere with their lives and change who they are. That's just rude. People will find their own way for better or worse.
Basically, just remember that no one has the right way of doing everything. Having your own thoughts, opinions and ways of doing things is very important on your journey to self discovery.
I will say this though. Face your emotions and past issues. Those will come up in pretty much any path since that's something you can't avoid. You might as well face those on your own terms instead of letting them build inside of you until they explode. Not pretty... Not pretty at all...
