Today is Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday. Do you celebrate Mardi Gras? What do you think about this holiday?

The Mardi Gras before Katrina I went to New Orleans...CRAZINESS rofl It was fun, i liked the city.
I dont think much of this holiday, but I do plan to decorate my pen-pal letters to other countries with a Mardi Gras theme.

Obviously I don't celebrate it as a religious holiday, nor as an excuse to drink and party all day and night, but I take part in some of the fun traditions with my friends (most of whom are Christian). We have a New Orleans themed dinner, and wear beads, and one girl always makes King Cake. Last year, she made baby Jesus out of marzipan and I accidentally ate him gonk

xxEternallyBluexx I've never celebrated it, but I've heard it's fun. ^^ It is. I'm not strictly Christian, but seeing as most of my family is, I grew up around these holidays. I think the best part is just the, well, fun theme. ^.^

I mean the Lent season is one less festive seasons in the Church Calender.

parties are fine with me.
having a party because you are soon sposed to stop enjoying yourself kinda put a damper on it for me, though.
i like to really celebrate at the END of Lent, which would be Easter; have a lot of food, friends and family over, and a couple good bottles of wine! and if you need a reason, it's because you are happy, not because you are dreading self denial tomorrow.

i don't. never have. mostly because i'm mormon, and we tend to think that you need to be good and sacrifice year round, not just for 40 days and nights, and that there isn't a good excuse to act like a jacka** ever. my husband keeps saying he wants to go to new orleans or rio de janeiro and see all the girls' chichis, but i think if he did, he'd be spending the whole time looking at the ground, and not see anything of that variety.

I like Mardi Gras and laugh out loud whenever I hear someone saying how 'disgraceful' it is, or whatever the heck their reasoning is. Yeah, people get totally drunk on that holiday, but they're doing the same thing on Christmas! Lighten up and have some King Cake, guys, it's not a sin if YOU'RE not the one having wild parties and sex.
