[OoC: Hope catter doesn't mind that I assume they made their way there. ^^]

Ooh, that wolf was going to be in biiig trouble when he got to the ball, Rayan thought -- not that he would be the one to punish Darkheart since doing so would probably lead to the human's demise rather than any punishment on the wolf's part. But he was sure the Alphas would beat the arrogant wolf up, hopefully... if he wasn't the one blamed for Darkheart's sadistic tricks again (Rayan still couldn't figure out how that evil wolf managed to frame him).

However, Rayan had realized that Emi was in a dress and heels, and being the gentleman that he was (not, as many would claim), he kept their strides at a comfortable pace. But he was so busy worrying about what Darkheart had in mind that they had reached their destination before he could even strike up a conversation with the woman... now he felt a bit guilty for ignoring her during the walk.

"Ah, pardon my wandering mind, I'm just wondering where my delinquent wolf has gone," Rayan apologized to Emi once he had lead them into the room. A furtive glance around put him at ease, however, since a certain black wolf was nowhere in sight (for now). So for the moment, he turned his attention to the beautiful young lady in his arms, offering her a charming grin -- white teeth flashing and everything. "Seems like we made it just in time, I don't see many people yet. Would you like to get a drink first?"

Once the women had entered, Alirien left the door to return to the Captains and Lieutenant. He only pauses for a brief second as another woman enters and passes him just as he reaches the small group to head right over to the other man, Captain Alister, his mind finally delivers a name, and Calla. He grins lightly to himself at the hug the woman receives, but it's gone in an instant when the treatment is also given to ALister. He barely manages to not look as shocked as he is at seeing the man be hugged.

Well.. she obviously knew them, and she seemed quite comfortable with hugging the man so there shouldn't be any harm. No matter what Alister's gender is, or what he'd heard of him through the infamous gossip chains the two forts seemed to had formed over the last years. Just to ensure he doesn't let the shock slip out, he clears his throat very lightly and looks at his own Captain, leaving the trio to their own devices for the moment. "You wanted me to join you, Captain? Ah, this wouldn't happen to have anything to do with Dust would it?" He had to ask, the wolf really was confusing him lately.

Seeing that he couldn't drag this out any longer, it was too cold to stay outside for long, and there wasn't a clear enough view of the sky to keep hi distracted for long tonight with the light haze in the air, Shun grudgingly makes his way to that building. Nightshade had at least made him get into the city a little while ago, but when the wolf left him he did everything in his power to delay arriving at the ball. Really this was anything but his kind of event, he got enough of being stuck in close quarters with other people at the fort and dealing wit his apprentice.

Entering, he is at least relieved to find that it is warm. And no sign of his.. date.. in the immediate area of the doors s perhaps they wouldn't even run into each other. Wishful thinking. Ah well. I will get you back for this Shade. Even though it isn't the wolf's fault, and he has no idea how he'd be getting his revenge anyhow.

Eustace might not have paid much attention to the strange woman that entered had she not walked straight toward the people of the most intimidating rank and offered hugs to each of them. Well, excluding herself. Part of her thought that they knew each other, but another part though she felt guilty for thinking it, thought that the woman didn't look too bright. Eustace didn't think of Calla as being particularly dangerous, though there were a few times as her apprentice that the assumption was questionable, but certainly any person who would approach the Captain of White Shadow in such a way had to be a bit mentally challenged. Then again, Eustace hadn't ever known Alister. Perhaps that intimidating aura that he exuded was merely a facade which Eustace herself was also guilty of using. If that was the case, then maybe she could be a little more at ease around him than she had been.

Having been distracted by this new development, she hadn't noticed Alirien return until he cleared his throat. Now that he was back, Eustace would be able to make the announcement, but she wouldn't until she was sure that everyone who was going to attend had made it inside. Ah, so Alirien hadn't known about LunarFlare and GoldDust. It made her wonder whether she should tell him now to soften the blow a bit or let it be a surprise. Eustace hadn't the slightest idea of how he would react to the news and if he reacted badly, the blame could be shifted to either of them. She really should have given him more notice rather than unloading the information on him all at once and in front of everyone. Regardless, it was too late now to tell him privately and if he was going to react badly now, Eustace found it unlikely that he would do it quietly. Better to tell him now, though, when not everyone had made it inside, than announce it and hope for the best.

No, that wouldn't be right either. If Alirien was too terribly upset by the news, then he might walk out and ruin the announcement. Perhaps she could just give him a little teaser now and gauge his reaction. "As a matter of fact, it does. New Eve has been short-handed of late and GoldDust's situation will help that splendidly." Was that too vague? Too specific? It could mean anything from a promotion to Beta or Alpha to simply being pregnant. Hopefully this answer would be good enough to tide him over until the actual announcement was made.

Emi, not used to wearing heels like some females maybe, was grateful for Rayan keeping his pace reasonable. Otherwise she would have looked like a waddling duck. That image was not a desirable. Not all, though a conversation on the other hand might have been nice, but seeing as the other party looked a bit preoccupied, if not a bit worried, the female kept quiet and all her thoughts to herself.

When they finally arrived at their destination, the apprentice could feel warmth start to seep back into her body slowly. Her fingers though, felt as if they were frozen still. “It’s alright, I didn’t mind,” she replied while blowing on her fingers. After all, she could have been the one to strike up a conversation during the walk. However, she choose silence over a talk were the male was probably not paying attention. The question of drinks made Emi’s ears perk up a bit, and switched the conversation. “I hope you don’t mind, but you may have to hold my cup for a few minutes while life decides to warm my frozen fingers again,” she told him with a smile.

The fire and ice wolf on the other hand, was lying down, hidden from sight. He still had a bit of a problem with that Rayan man.

Alister had zoned out, a fairly useful skill when it came to dealing with such monotonous tasks as paperwork and in this case boring banter about what was to come before the ball officially started. He didn't really care much to be honest, it was all the same to him after all. The speeches would be made, the band would strike up and then all manner of formalities and common sense would be gone. Again it didn't matter to him. The only reason he was here was because of his rank and because Ana had refused to leave him be. The woman had threatened to drag him here kicking and screaming, Captain or not. As far as Ana saw it, she was family and family outranked any rank one managed to acquire in the fort. So here he was, bored out of his mind and the ball hadn't even started.

A brief glance at the coming and going of the other man had him acutely aware of that fact that, for whatever reason the man didn't like him. Again it didn't matter to him. If someone he hadn't even met had a problem with him then too bad. His attention however was shifting to the newest arrival and he shifted to several shades paler. Why was Abigail here? More importantly why was he still here knowing full well what the woman intended on doing? Namely breaking and possibly bruising his ribs, as if they had even begun to recover from the last time the woman had decided to be 'affectionate'. A measured step back was all he took to put himself at what he saw as a safe distance from his cousin.

"Don't you dare Abigail." He knew his warning was going to fall on deaf ears. It was after all Abigail he was dealing with. Abigail was dense. At the very least, Ana was stubborn. The sharp click of heels heading rabidly toward them had him dreading just who was approaching. He'd bet his career on it being Ana. Ana was the only person he'd met that was able to walk so lightly yet loud enough to let the whole world know she'd arrived. Well he'd sooner take her rage than get smothered by Abigail. Truth be told he wasn't so sure he'd be that lucky.

When the announcement came that they could enter the building, Ana was grateful for it. Her shoulders were starting to turn to ice. Shivering but being careful not to step in the mix of powdered snow and muck around the walk way, the blonde was skirting a pool of something that didn't exactly look too pleasant. But putting that aside. She was going to have her cousin's head on a silver platter. Which was why she was storming her way over to where Abigail was already smothering him, right in front of the other ranking officials. She could only guess the other two were of some sort of rank, otherwise they wouldn't have been in here before the ball started.

"Captain Alister Shields. My darling darling cousin, you have five seconds to run as far as you can before I come after you." Scowling at the man she was mentally checking off just how long it was taking her cousin to scoot away from both her and Abigail. Now that was just utterly satisifying. Looking toward Calla she flashed a devilish grin at the woman, the meaning clear. She was anything but done with Calla. Oh, the woman had escaped the make up but the woman wouldn't escape the request she planned on making a bit later in the ball. Letting her gaze roam past Calla, she pulled herself into a salute, once her gaze finally settled on the others from New Eve. She'd trample all over Alister if she got her way, and right about now she was intent on doing just that. Well she'd trample all over him. After she stole his jacket since her shoulders were still cold.

Alexis rolled her eyes. It was just a fling, she told herself. 'It is just a fling.' she corrected herself soon after. She smiled at Lysander, then grabbed Jace's hand and smiled at him, accompanied by a wink. "Alright, let's go, Jacey." She called him with a small giggle, grabbing his hand and walking eagerly into the ball. It seemed as though most of the other people there had dates, so maybe it would be harder than she thought to get a replacement booty-call for after the dance date for the dance. Oh well, it would be fun all the same. She could find a friend to dance with, or she could visit her family.

She smiled, making sure that no one would hear her talking to Jace, "Your brother seems kind of touchy, tonight. Anyways, if you're here with someone else, I'm sure I'll find a friend or something." She assured him, looking around to see if she did know anyone there. There was Rayan, but she didn't see anyone else immediately. He could be fun, but it seemed as though he was... Occupied with another girl. It took here minute to realize that she actually did know the girl. Her name was... Emi? She couldn't say she knew her too well, but she didn't seem all that bad. Oh well, if worst came to worst, she could mingle with the pair.

So, the Captain did know something about Dust. That much is certain by the expression on Eustace's face when he had posed the question. And the pause between his asking, and getting an answer lends him to believe that he won't be getting an answer either. Well, he could have expected as much. The wolf herself was being quite secretive, why would anyone else be any different on the matter? And at least the expression on Eustace's face also lets him believe that whatever is going on with Dust isn't negative. Of course he couldn't think of anything she she-wolf would have done to get herself in trouble over, either, but it was good to at least have a hint at that.

Though, the tidbit of information he receives sends him in another small spiral of confusion. GoldDust's situation? Helping with their fort's short-handedness? How? She wasn't seeing a Gamma that he was aware of, not being overly affectionate in their usual rounds to any other wolves. She couldn't be expecting a litter, surely she wouldn't keep something like that secret from him, right? Yes, she wouldn't do that. So then what? Probably better to not try and stress over the information, and just pursue her for the truth after the Ball, if this announcement won't clear anything up. yes, that would do. He didn't want to be stressed tonight. Not anymore than he would be from having to be in a ballroom full of men, especially if any more were like those two from outside. "If.. you are sure, Captain."

The woman abruptly making her way to their group catches his attention and he can't help but turn in her direction to acknowledge her presence. Oh, ouch she did not look pleased about something. He makes certain he isn't in her path as she walks over to the other man and addresses him. Ah, cousins? The poor man, but then she did seem very righteously angry so he probably deserved it. Anyone should know you just don't cross a woman without expecting the just punishments.

But looking at her, he frowns lightly. Another without the proper jacket? How were any of them expecting to not be sick in this cold tonight?

Rayan grinned at Emi before leading them towards the tables, looking around for anything potentially warm to drink. "Well, if we can find some hot chocolate, then you can hold on to both drinks and warm up your fingers that way," he replied with a chuckle. Unfortunately, it seemed he was either not very observant at the moment, or whoever had planned this event had not thought to provide warm drinks for everyone. However, the latter seemed unlikely (unless such idiocy as Damien or himself were involved in the event planning).

"Hmm, I must be going blind because I can't find hot chocolate. How can they not have hot chocolate?" Despite his reputation for often being found drinking his sanity away in the lounges, Rayan had quite a sweet tooth, and hot chocolate was one of his many weaknesses (and he had many of them, so this wasn't really saying much, to be honest). Rayan started to become frustrated at his lack of sight, and he gave a childish stomp with his foot before letting out a strangely canine-like whine. "My hot chocolate..." he murmured sadly while glancing around with puppy eyes.

Maybe they banned hot chocolate from any public events after the last hundred scenes you've caused from your... what did they call it? ...ah yes, chocolate euphoria. To emphasize his point, Darkheart sent Rayan an image of the last ball the man had attended, which ended with a drunk and sugar-loaded Rayan giggling like a five year old while sommersaulting naked across the dance floor. I do rather liked the expressions on those insignificant leaders of yours when they saw you do that. Do it again, won't you?

Rayan hardly had the decency to blush at the image in his mind, instead wondering what further insanity would ensue should he ever ingest that much alcohol and sugar together again. "I really hope they didn't ban hot chocolate... I didn't think I was that bad last time," he muttered rather indignantly. Next thing you know, they'll be banning alcohol, the tyrants!

It seemed as though everyone that was going to enter the Ball had entered or was still standing outside. She certainly hoped it was the latter since she didn't see Clyde anywhere. In any case, Eustace wanted to get the announcements over with as soon as possible. After speaking about it with Private Ten, she didn't want to withhold the information any longer. Eustace was terrible at keeping secrets and if she waited too long, she would likely find herself simply telling him on her own time. Not that it would have been a bad thing. She just figured that since she'd waited until now to tell him, then she should go through with her original plan.

So, Eustace began her speech. "If I could have everyone's attention..." She paused. "Welcome to the Second Annual Winter Military Ball. I know that you are all here to enjoy yourselves and I'm sure you would like to get back to your conversations, but before that, there are a few announcements to make." She looked down at the podium as if there would be note cards there telling her what to say. "First of all, I am Captain Vinarin of New Eve and next to me are Captain Shields and Lieutenant Bianchi of White Shadow. It is no secret that New Eve is currently lacking a Lieutenant and I've chosen now to announce the remedy to this situation."

Eustace paused again to let the information sink in. Perhaps now, Private Ten would connect the dots. If not, then he would certainly understand soon enough. "LunarFlare has mated with one of New Eve's Gammas and her rider will become the new Lieutenant." She said, gripping the sides of the podium a bit more tightly than necessary. "Congratulations, Private -or Lieutenant, rather- Alirien Ten." Eustace stepped back from the podium and began clapping, stepping toward Alirien. "Would you like to say a few words?" She asked quietly.

Oh, Alirien would have wanted nothing more than to stop, stare, and voice out his opinion of the matter in a loud, undignified.. some would even say girlish yell of "What!?" but he manages to hold such a response in check. At least outwardly. Inside he's floundering up and down, North,South, every direction that has a name, to try and come up with the logic behind this. How in all of the snow in the forts did Dust keep something like THIS from him!? Oh, that wolf was going to get such an earful when he gets to her..

For all the company around him, Ali looks pretty shell-shocked into silence for a good five minutes, while he's going on the little tirade in his head. Once he seemed to snap out of it, it sinks in that the Captain had asked if he wanted to say anything. Did he? None of this had time to sink in enough for anything like a speech but well he could say something. Couldn't he? And then something does come to mind when he glances out and sees the men from their Fort standing around. Oh.. there was one thing to say.

"Just one thing, Captain." Letting his usual face come back to him he gives a nod. "This changes absolutely nothing of how I view anyone in the Fort." There, that says all he needed to say, without breaching whatever it is his new rank tells him, hopefully. And without being insulting, at that. How about it.

As if by some miracle, just as Abigail lurched forward to give Alister the hug of a lifetime, the Captain of New Eve began speaking and it was Abigail's duty as a Private, though not of the same fort, to listen. Abigail turned around as the woman began talking, forgetting about her current endeavor. Somewhere in that speech, New Eve's young Captain had lost Abigail's attention, what with her big words and the fact that she was being so coy about everything.

Abigail was completely lost when the young woman started clapping, only having escaped the deep dark reaches of the one last healthy brain cell bouncing around in her skull just as the brown-haired woman said a name. Again, Abigail didn't know who this Alirien Ten person was, but judging by the fact that New Eve's Captain was clapping and that some blonde-haired man was standing in front of her looking bewildered, he must have just gotten something really good. Abigail began clapping and soon after got to hooting and hollering congratulatory drivel.

Jack looked up from his deck of playing cards, which had been laid out in front of him in small stacks. He was already preparing for the long night ahead and looking as focused and unapproachable as he possibly could. Dances were for young people, he thought, though he wasn't quite at the "old" label himself. It was really easy to label himself that way, however, seeing as he was getting dangerously close to the big 40. Captain Vinarin began speaking about how New Eve didn't have a Lieutenant and Jack immediately came to the conclusion that New Eve's young Alpha, LunarFlare had finally mated. Well, that was nice. The forts were in need of pups and another Alpha pair would really help their numbers grow.

Jack clapped along with several others until he realized exactly whose wolf had mated with LunarFlare. Oh, no. Not that man-hating insult to the gender. Jack had never really associated with him, but he had seen some things and heard even more. Even without knowing him well (as if he could, what with Priva- Lieutenant Ten's misandrist ways), he knew that boy was bad news.

After the clapping died down, the room became eerily silent. Perhaps the news hadn't sunken in properly yet. Or maybe he was contemplating his responsibilities. Maybe this new found authority was just the kick in the butt that he needed to end whatever silliness was going on in his brain. As if to crush any small amount of hope that Jack might have had, the first thing to come out of Alirien's mouth was a resounding "This changes absolutely nothing of how I view anyone in the Fort." Perfect. Just perfect. It wouldn't be long before Lieutenant Ten began enforcing whatever misandrist rules and regulations he wanted.

When the clapping died down, Eustace eyed Alirien intently, waiting for his answer. When she received none and the room became nearly silent (except for a few people talking privately amongst themselves), she gave a nervous look to the rest of the room and gulped. Eustace sincerely hoped that LunarFlare really loved whatever wolf he had mated to because her rider didn't seem to be worth anything as a Lieutenant. Then again, it had been a big shock. Anyone would need a bit of time to process the information.

For a second, Eustace thought that she would have to continue her speech after that long and awkward silence, but she was saved when Alirien finally decided to speak. "This changes absolutely nothing of how I view anyone in the Fort." He left her with that odd statement, which made her curious just who he was talking about and just what they had done- good or bad -to deserve being singled out in this type of situation.

Eustace cleared her throat. "Thank you, Lieutenant Ten for that... intriguing statement. Your rank will change effective immediately and moving arrangements will be made within the week. I request that you pack your things at your earliest possible convenience." She paused and looked at Calla and Alister, gesturing to the podium as a means of asking if they had anything they wanted to say. If not, then she would let everyone get back to their revelry.
