Although I got a 1 this year in solo and ensemble, personally, I kind of think doing a solo is stupid. Especially if the judge is not that great. You prepare a solo for months and months, only for one performance, and one persons opinion that you and your teacher may or may not agree with. Although it is definitely not a waste doing solo and ensemble, it is good for your school, and a great excuse to take a break from the etudes and work on a solo =) I just think that the way they score the solo is stupid. The the score they give you does not label you as a good or a bad player.

I played Gavotte on my clarinet... and I got a rating of excellent. =D I just lost my spot... and I'm not too great with my grace notes but I did well. [=

I played Chopin's Polonaise in D minor and went to state. I got 21st of 24 sweatdrop But I was really proud of myself because I had gotten it ready in less time than either sophomore or junior year.

Percussion Ensemble performed Dance of the Wind-Up Toy this year and we got distinguished. They didn't have a xylo and couldn't find it so my friend and I had to play our parts on a piano. Everyone but one of our soloists got distinguished and I've been drafted to Sax Quartet after the bari sax player quit. We're playing for state next week so hopefully we'll do good there, too. We're playing Trois Pieces (French for Three Pieces).
