Okay... so as of right now, the common practice for pally healers is to stack Intellect for your gems and nothing else... except of course what's needed to activate your meta gem. It's recommended to have in excess of 30k mana with 10-man raid buffs... best to be closer and above 35k for later content. Anyway, this is because of the high demand for Holy Lights in order to keep the tanks up. The other day I was healing a 10-man ICC on Saurfang, and I noticed my SP peak at 3300 with full raid buffs and my trinket active. At 3300, my Flash of Lights were hitting for 7.5k non-crit, and 9.8k crit. Now with that said, if I were to gem purely SP instead of Int, and focus my gear on a tighter balance of crit and haste, instead of primarily haste, I could Flash of Light my way to more HPS than my Holy Light's ever could be.
Personally, I don't have the time or bank to swap all my gems to give it a try, but I would be interested in seeing if it has worked for someone else. My theory is that if you could gem, gear, and enchant yourself past 3200 sp, when you get raid buffed and such, you could likely exceed 3700 and possibly even higher. That said, Flash of Light would be hitting for well more than 11k, and at about 1 cast a second... faster if you know how to gear. With Glyphs and Sacred Shield, Flash of Light's crit chance can exceed 60%.
Yay for Theorycraft. >.>
