Mehh, I clicked on a thread in the forum and a pop up came asking for my password.
I closed it and changed my password.

Do you think there's any way they could hack me with just a pop-up? :S

@ Dusty
I did a news segment on that on an online news report, search it on the search bar. "This Week on Gaia" or just click on my sig.

From xx Pandemoniium:

Hey Jelly, some people have been sending links from some place called "h1.ripway.com", something about a ninja headband.
It's a virus/password leecher.

Both yesterday and today I ran into the pop-up that asks you to verify your password. Never, every give out your password.......

Also, insure your belongings against hacking by going to tektek.org and clicking on Calculate Account Worth. Follow directions, and at the end, use copy/paste to record the result in a file offsite (ie, Word, Powerpoint, etc.) That should be updated periodically, whenever what you own shows a major change. This is your insurance, your proof to Gaia for replacement if anyone ever hacks your account. Without it, you have very little chance of having your items replaced.

Update 5/13:
I also received an official-looking pm that asked me to verify my password. Gaia staff will never do that.

Today I learned the phisher popup has shown up in an aquarium.

ALWAYS be aware of security and even more so during Gaia Events, as phishers know we tend to be less cautious when excited. I had to report 3 attempted hacks/scams in one weekend during Easter Event, more than I had had in 1.5 years.

Well, technically, use your Gaia username for Gaia only. Same for the password. Make sure that the link is always http://www.gaiaonline.com/ & no where else but there. It doesn't hurt checking the address bar for it.
As for the pop-ups, ignore/report them.
Any other program across the net related to Gaia? Ignore/report them.
PMs for passwords no matter how professional or/& official it seems? Report them.

I'd suggest changing your password weekly for those who are worried about their account. Make sure that it has at least 1 lower case letter, 1 upper case letter, 1 symbol & 1 number.

That's all I can say, really.

As for the "h1.ripway.com" thing, you might receive them from friends via comments or chat for a while. Er, ignore them & report the website to Gaia. Some random hacker is on your friend account. Chances of warning your friend is low since the hacker could check the mail & delete it unless you have another method of contacting them, such as Facebook or Windows Live Messenger/MSN.

Beware of scammers, hackers, phishers, especially during Events when everyone is excited and lagging, and maybe not so careful.

PLEASE READ THE FIRST POST and directions several posts back for taking an inventory of your items as hacking insurance. Piehard II is scheduled to begin next week, and scams/hacks/phishing are really common during events.
