"I got a big spider too!" Loki was eager to brag. "He doesn't got a name yet, though. Mommy doesn't like spiders, so I haveta hide him." He paused, and gave Deirdre a smile. "Your brother got a dog, then! Dogs are furry and got four legs and a tail--and they go bark. You got snakes though, right? They hiss, and stick their tongues out!"
"He does," Risa said with a grin. "Two of them--but he's got a low tolerance, and sugar tends to make him frightening. More so than usual, I mean." There was a pause, and another smile. "I don't fancy your job," she said. "I prefer to keep my head down and go with the flow of things."

"A dog? No..no, I- wait! It's a wuff. He says its a wuff. And nope, we don't gots no snakes as petsies, but dey in our house." Mostly because it was warm inside and the castle was easy accessible for most reptiles. Too bad they didn't have a little toddler poking them on the list of their hybernation plans.
Adrian grinned. "I suppose that makes him one of my kind or something else?" He tapped his overly long fang. "Ah, me as well. I inherited the duties from my successor and I'll have it til I die."

Loki opened his mouth and was about to explain that wolves were a kind of dog, but he thought better of it. " Ooooh, a wuff. They howl, huh? At the moon! I want snakes," he confided. "I want lots and lots of snakes."
"Close," Risa told Adrian with a smile. "He's a descendant of Leanan Sidhe--a fairy, you know," she explained. "A lot like you, though." She wasn't about to tell Adrian that she thought Matthias looked even more like a vampire than he did. "I think you two would get along, though. Maybe you should meet one day--er, night."

Deirdre shook her head. "Dey howl at everything." She was pretty sure the one her twin kept as a pet wasn't a were, but the ones that changed chaffed her hide. "Oh, look, look! Snake house"
"Ooh," Adrian nodded. He didn't know much about the fae, other than they were a big pain in the a**. "Mayhaps. If you wouldn't be object to it, maybe one day soon you and yours can come to my home for dinner? As guests, of course." Hastily, he added the last part. No way he could make new friends if they thought he wanted to eat them.

"At everything?" Loki looked interested for a moment. That was, until he noticed the snake house. "Let's go!" he said, speeding up his pace. He wasn't quite so eager as to go at a run; he knew his mother would get upset if he left her range of sight.
Risa gave a smile. "I'm sure that would be lovely," she said. She wasn't at all worried about dining with a vampire; she thought it would be a new adventure. "Where do you live? Or do you want to set up a date when we could come? I'm sure Matthias would love to come--he doesn't eat much, though. I'm sure you don't, either. Are the children welcome? I don't imagine your daughter gets to see many children her age."

She grabbed his hand to slow him down and gigglingly trailed after him. It was so much fun! She didn't care if her father was left behind the moment she saw those snakes. Colors as far at the mind could imagine with a million different sizes. "De'r bootiful. C'mon, Loki, I wanna pet one!"
Adrian snatched a piece of paper off one of the benches and flipped it to the back to scribble out an address only half-way through to realize it was all in French. He scratched it out and rewrote it. "Follow these instructions. We're not to far from here, maybe an hour or two. And of course, children are most welcome. As you have said, my children are often away from others their own age and I think it would be nice for them to have a 'normal' evening." He smiled.
And so, the day night carried on with children annoying snakes and adults happily chittering away.
