Mm what is it with people thinking that having good music taste = not liking mainstream music? I mean, there might be a lot of s**t in the charts but there's a reason that stuff gets popular. Obscure music may be more interesting sometimes, but it's not like your entire CD collection has to be stuff you can only get for £30 off the internet.
And to be honest, I get more embarrassed when people ask what sort of music I like and I have to prefix it with "Well, you might not have heard of them..."

same here. Most of the music I listen to isn't necessarily popular in the public eye, but I do like a lot of mainstream acts (Lady Gaga, Gorrilaz, Devo, some Zep, some Def Leppard, etc).
