He chuckled when she mentioned needing a nap. He wasn't too tired but felt a nap would do him well too. He let himself do a nice long stretch to relax himself, then rolled to his back a little ways from Ember so he wouldn't be too close. "Not yet, you sound like we'll be hanging out for a while." A smile spread across his maw as he looked at her. "That sounds great to me. But now let's get some rest..." Slowly he dozed off, warmed by the sun on his stomach.

She blinked twice at him as she laid her head on her paws and curled up. "I don't know where I'd go. I think I like it here. I like you too Bear." She yawned again and closed her eyes. "I really do like you Bear," she said as she drifted off to sleep.

~~~Time-Skip~~~ A few days passed and Bear found himself growing more and more fond of the spot he'd met Ember at. Serious thought of making a permanent home there were running through his mind as he heads out into the water to hunt for fish. He didn't want to stay simply because he loved the area, which he did, but also because he felt a sort of bond to the poke-lioness. She seemed happy here and he wanted to stay where he could be around her. He still needed to teach her how to fish anyway. With a swoop his paw scooped a flopping fish out of the water and onto the beach, followed by a few others. Finally he just bent down and caught one in his mouth to have a little fun. Grinning, feeling rather pleased with the catches he proceeded to prepare the fish to be eaten, dropping the one in his mouth to the ground. "Time to eat Ember! Got some fresh fish here for us!"

"Huh? What?" She pulled her head out of the bush she'd followed the brightly colored lizard into. She turned her head around and peaked over her outstretched wings. "Oh! Fish! Alright!" She trotted over gamely and eagerly bit one of the wriggling masses into death. "You know you still have to teach me how to do that right?" She chewed happily with a huge grin on her face. "These things still taste good. It's a wonder...Bear? Don't you ever want to explore? Or have you always been here?" She tilted her head with the fish in her mouth and which made her look more comical than curious. "I mean, I know you can't fly and everything but don't you ever have wanderlust?" She suddenly blushed as if for no good reason. "Not that I'd ever want to go anywhere without you. If that's what you thought. I really like being with you."

He chuckled as she ate, forcing himself not to outright laugh at the faces she made as she asked him question. He nearly lost his composure when she had the fish sticking out of her mouth, but instead he ruffled the fur on her head. "I love this place, but I do get ideas of traveling sometimes. The world is so big...why not explore it, find it's secrets. You know?" He cut up a fish with his claw and ate, careful not to choke on a bone by accident which he'd been dumb enough to do before. "You'd come with me?" He looked at her for a moment, then moved his wings. "I can fly, but I stay low or above trees in case they get tired and I fall. But climbing, swimming, and walking is part of the adventure right?"

"Of course I'd go with you! Your my only friend in the world Bear. I belong with you if I belong with anyone. At least that's how I feel." She chew on the head of her fish. "Maybe that's what I'd doing wrong in flight. I always try to go too high." She got a far off look on the face and didn't even really realize what she'd said to Bear.

What she said shocked him so much he choked on his food, just looking at her for a long moment. She'd said something to him that told him he could say how he felt, though nervousness still clung to him. "Ember I...I'm glad you'll stay with me. Because, well...I really..love you." He got up and moved so he was sitting next to her, then nuzzled her cheek.

She snapped back to reality when she heard her name and then her jaw dropped when she was actually able to process what he'd said. That took several seconds. The cheek rub helped get it through. "Bear?" There were nerves in her voice, nerves she never used. She rubbed back at his cheek absently, mostly to make her feel braver. "Bear. You can't love me. I don't even know what love is. I've only heard about it. I...I...I...Bear?" She looked up into his eyes hoping to understand. "Do I love you? Is that why I'm so comfortable here? With you? I don't....you can't..." She felt a tear trickle out of her eye because of the confusion. She felt like throwing up her fish because her tummy suddenly felt uneasy. Like things were wiggling around in there. A new feeling she wasn't used to. Bear had never been this close. It had to be his fault. "Bear. I don't feel good now. I don't know why." She began to cry freely out of frustration and these new nerves she wasn't used.

Her reaction made him feel badly, but though his ears lowered he pulled her closer, wiping away her tears with his paw. "I think what you feel is love Ember...I'm sorry if it scares you but...I'm here for you. I'll protect you, always if you'll have me." He very gently lifted her chin with his paw until his eyes met hers, his face and smile gentle and comforting. "I love you Ember, and I'll do whatever you need, I want you to be as happy as possible." He wanted her to understand he'd do whatever it took to give her happiness. All he wanted was to stay with her, to live alongside her and be happy with her. Now he just prayed that she would not push him away out of fear.

She stared at him as he brushed the tears away and answered her questions. She knew in her head he was right. She also knew she'd made him sad because his ears were back. And even through the tears that still rolled down her face she could see and emotion that she hadn't chosen to recognize before and it made her heart twist in a funny little way. She knew even that she wasn't full grown yet and had assumed things like this would happen when she was "all grown up". But apparently not everything went to plan. "To hell with the plan." She said randomly as she stared into his eyes and let the tears cease. "I love you too Bear." She grinned then, like the real Ember. Not the frazzled bunch of nerves she'd become a few minuets ago. And then got up and tackled him to the ground and rubbed her muzzle on him face and into his neck where she quit moving and just breathed. "I do. I love you too Bear. I'm sorry I scared you. But you're okay now right? Because I'm fine. I'm great. You're okay with the fact that I'm not full grown yet right? You better be. I'm not going anywhere ever now. You're stuck with my orange butt." She breathed briefly and smiled into his fur. "You know I always assumed stuff like this would happen to me when I was older. Not now. That's why you scared me. But that's okay. Hey, what do we do now? Are we still gonna go adventuring? That would be fun. You smell good. Did you know that?" She grinned to herself and nuzzled on his fur. Yeah she could grow to like this.

He tilted his head at the random comment, but listened regardless, happily holding her close to him when she moved closer. He'd gotten used to her tackles, in fact he enjoyed them by now. While she breathed in one of his paws moved to cup her cheek gently. "I know your young Ember, but I'll be with you long after you've become an adult. And I don't mind being stuck with your orange butt." He chuckled, licking her cheek lovingly. "You bet! We'll go all over the place! There is so much we can explore together and I look forward to every minute of it." He grinned, just holding her close when she nuzzled in. He never could've imagined feeling such pure love. He'd never let her go now.
