Mmmm, I'm voting for the age theory. Maybe as each regeneration goes by, the change becomes a more difficult and violent process. It would explain why both the Master and the Doctor are doing such violent changes at the same time, as since the two went to school together, they must be at or around the same age, right? Though, I've gotten the impression the Master has regenerated far more times then the Doctor has, and even beat the thirteen lives pattern: I'm still a newbie to the fandom though, so I don't know for sure.

I'm fairly sure the Master's been done with his regeneration cycle for some while now, since he resorted to stealing bodies a while back... but then the Timelords gave him a new one in return for fighting in the Time War?

So who knows how many he has now, really.

I'm kinda thinking that the writers are going to ignore the whole limited regenerations thing. Remember the episode where Donna and the Doctor where in the library, River Song said that he was much younger than he was when he knew her. So in some respects it seems as if you can't connect the first 8 regenerations to the current 3. Which would mean you can't hold the regeneration process to the same standards?

I think the BBC just wants better ratings, Doctor Who will bring them with big flashy scifi stuff.

Diff kinds of radiation though and the last while being very different it was also a lot more so this can be argued in 2 diff ways.

And DR WHO is in a younger and more agile regen so he can jump with his alien self through glass roofs and be safe on the way down and no, this was not explained by RTD but John Nathan who explained that he wanted a big jump scene and explained it off as #5 was a younger and more fit mysterious being who could live longer so why not be more resistant and robust.

No cause a time lord has 13 lives and its higher/different radiation.

personally, i think that ten was so explosive because he was trying so hard not to regnerate, and in turn the energy he was holding back made a big "BOOM" so to say.
