My opinion on this can be summed up in this neat little quote I found

Quote:
It's not premarital sex if you have no intention of getting married
PostPosted: Tue Dec 07, 2010 11:51 am

Well with my point of view sex before marriage isn't a negative thing. Anybody who is actually committed to being together forever even if life gets both of them down they will see it through and that deserves a thumbs up. Anyone who will stick until the end of time with their partner is worthy and doesn't have to be married to have sex because sex is not required of you if you don't want to. In my religion, Sex before marriage is a bad thing and even if it is my religion I don't follow it because its not the lord that wrote it its the people who wants to keep lovers from having sex. My religion which is the catholic religion is nearly the same as the christianity religion but with me I just don't want to risk it so I want to marry first before anything else. Both discussion between sex before marriage and sex after marriage is true with commitment and should be thought through first before taking actions into your own hands first.

It's a practical thing. Many women would get pregnant before having a husband to support them, which made life difficult. Thus, religion made it a "sin."

And it's actually not allowed to have sex outside of marriage, not just before marriage. If you were married and got divorced, you still cannot have sex with your next lover until you're married to them.

For the exact same reason that eating meat and dairy together is considered "a sin" in the old testament. In reality, it just gave you food poisoning ^^'

I have eaten Meat and Dairy together and I have never gotten food poisoning. As for sex before marriage, its not wrong to do that and its not right too. Let me explain, Sex before marriage can be a good thing for the two lovers because once they know they are having a child before they are married then they would start to think about how to support a new life BUT! sex before marriage is also wrong because if that person isn't dedicated into having a child then he could just leave them both and making the child and single parent suffer.

Ok, so I believe in saving myself for my husband, like a few other people have said. Basically, abstaining from sex until marriage means staying a virgin, and my virginity is the most precious gift I could give my husband on our wedding night. The fact that I waited for him, and now that I'm giving myself fully to him... It just means so much to me. Not to mention that its a brilliant way to avoid having kids when I'm not married... And yeah, I'm not gonna be perfect on the first time. It just means that we'll hafta do it again and again and again until I get the hang of it. wink wink wink

But... my bf didn't like that idea. He doesn't think he could wait 2 years to have sex (one yr after the first kiss is the earliest he'd propose, then a wedding at least a year after that). It obviously means something different to him, and the thought that it would upset him like that....

I just don't know what to think about that. :/

Even though I don't know your reasons for wanting to wait until marriage (assuming you have some), you shouldn't let him change your mind. If you're going to sleep with someone, it should be because you want to--not because your partner coerced you. If he's pressuring you, you need to tell him to ******** off, because that is SO not cool.

ah this ol' discussion, always fun.

I'm neither for or against,

Because even though we can call ourselves the most advanced whatevers
on the planet, we are still animals, and as such we still have the base urge to find a mate and mate with him/her it's a basic instinct, and fighting that instinct is something that is not only incredibly hard to do for any length of time as the urge builds over time, it's almost torture for the males, who's typical job is to impregnate a female so their race can continue, and or care for their young depending on the species.

The whole notion of marriage is silly to me.
I'd rather do what my instincts tell me then do what some silly religion says to.
I am me.
you are you.
religions are pretty much saying to resist what our bodies tell us too haha
"going to the bathroom is a sin.." as the saying goes..

If you go with the instincts argument, then condoms and BC kinda mess that up for you. It's instinct to continue the species, not just to have sex. So when you use any method to prevent pregnancy you go against that.

And women also get a similar urge. We have the commonly known time of month and another time during the month where the hormones say "We're ready to make some babies, let's do this!" So it's not just a guy thing. wink

*edit, i still condone the practice of safe sex tho, my brain is kinda
fhudshfsivgshal 2+2=<>< so i have a tendency to leave stuff out haaaah
and i know it runs both ways, but guys are more frequent then once a month >_<
but that's not what quite what i'm getting at, what i'm saying is, religion shouldn't have the ability to bar what is basic instinct.
so i guess in an incredibly roundabout way...im kinda against the "no sex b4 marriage thing"...
IT'S BASIC, ANIMAL INSTINCT.*punches religions in the snout*

But whenever someone has safe sex they control basic animal nature. It's the social norm to control basic nature. A man urinating on something to claim it is pretty frowned upon. xd

that's not one of our basic natures haha, and yes, it can be controlled, somewhat the act is still performed, and it satiates the urge, having safe sex isn't really controlling it, since the act is still performed and i am still tired as all getup @_@
