Okay so I didn't know where to put this so I'm putting it here.

Have you ever had a character that has an accent and you seem to find yourself thinking in that very same accent and without knowing it you seem to say a few words in that accent when your in a conversation?

I have been doing that a lot lately. For example, the story I'm writing know takes place in Scotland and a lot of the people have a thick brogue and I write in that brogue a lot when I write the story.

Well, I was in a conversation with my best friend and then all of the sudden without realizing it "you" becomes "ye", "don't" is "donnae", "yes and no" are "aye and nay" Lets just say after that conversation my friend thought I was on drugs.

Has anything similar ever happened to you?

Not their accents but their way of speaking for me. My main character has a Greek past life and he is the son of a very high standing Greek God.
When I speak to someone, I end up saying things such as 'look what the Fates have brought upon us' or 'oh dear Gods'. I am not religious in the slightest but I tend to pick up on my characters common phrases and attach it to my life...
Awkward haha.

XD
Definitely awkward.

The thing is my characters converse in my head so I spend 70% of my day thinking with an accent.

Following the Greek example, I have a ton of characters who do not use contractions. While I still use them in speech, I have noticed an increase of "would not," "cannot," have not," etc.

I also tend to use the swears I made up for them too.

Sometimes I fall into that even though my character's don't speak without contractions. For some reason it just looks really good on page and reads really well, but they make my characters stiff.

I hate using contractions but I agree, my characters always sound so posh and proper. Haha!
