I've seen the movies and hate the general idea that one girl would obsess so completely over one guy. I frequently dispute the quality of twilight on those grounds mainly, but my little brother especially shoots down all my critiscism with the argument that I havn't read the book and therefore I can't make any judgements on the plot what-so-ever.
I want to read the books just so that I can say that I read them and gain some more credibility to my arguments, but I don't want to support the franchise by buying a book, and the local library is anything BUT local. So does anyone know of a "Legal" place online where I can read the book?

I doubt there's any truly authorized site but there are a lot of free ones where you can read parts on Adobe Reader. Alas, the last time I tried I could only get the first chapter of New Moon.

Meh, I downloaded the first Twilight book probably a year ago when it was announced the Twilight movie was going to be made. I read probably five chapters of it and I found Bella instantly annoying and her swooning for Edward instantly more annoying...
Sometimes I think I want to read it because it might be good, but from what I hear about it, it blows... so I usually can't bring myself to waste time on it. Plus, I never really argue with my twihard sister or neice... the one time I did though, my sister told me I've probably never read the book... OMG, they just love pulling that one!

I've found an audio place on youtube for any of you who are interested.
It's called Twilight abridged. It's read by a person claiming to be from the website twilightsucks.com. He reads the book with a slight bias, nothing that should upset anyone here, and he fact checks every so often through out the book.

My sisters use that same argument with me. To be fair, I TRIED to read it. And I had a jolly good time reading the watered down porn aloud in class last year. As with other chapters.
But, as one noble CCer once said " You don't have to be a chef to tell the cook the food is bad. "
