Well, I've ordered 17 this month...
I told my sister to slap me if she sees me on Amazon again before Feb.
Thats ridiculous.
But I did download 26 albums this month. It was a slow month.
Yeah, it would be cheaper to download, but I like having a physical copy.
Plus, I always feel bad doing that. If I wanted a song by Beyonce or something (for some inexplicable reason) I'd be fine with it. I figure she's already rich, so she doesn't need my money. Bands like Ensiferum or Wintersun, though, are just making a living, and I feel like by downloading their music I'm stealing their livelihood.
That's not meant to be a guilt trip or moral code or anything. It's just my personal reasoning.
I like having a physical copy too, but a lot of the artists I like I can't find their albums anywhere, not even Amazon.
Also, you have it backwards. All the big artists, like who you mentioned, Beyonce, make all their money through CD sales so by downloading them you are really screwing them over. Smaller bands only make a tiny bit of profit off albums, they make their big money through tours and merch. The labels that the bands are on get the majority of the profits from the album sales, which isn't right, so by downloading the album is a big "******** YOU!" to the record companies. You also seem to be doing the band more of a favor by downloading because you are then able to show off the band to other people, which exposes more people who will then potentionally go to the concerts in which the band will make more money.
But, it certainly helps to buy the album aswell. I always try to buy the hard copy of my favorite albums that I've downloaded. I use downloading as more of a sample feature, I hate buying albums and then finding out I really only like one or two songs from it.
