Zori & Frost

Zori sighed softly, gazing up at the Bulletin Board. Her leafy tail swished mildly as she peered closely at each of the missions. Just behind her, a very timid-looking Growlithe was hudded near the tip of her tail, watching with wide, worried eyes as she pulled a paper off the board.
"Z-Zori... You're not p-picking anything sc-scary... are you?" Frost whimpered uneasily. "I m-mean... We're n-not like... going t-to the Tower of D-Doom or anything.... r-right?"
Zori shot him a strange look. "There's no such thing as the Tower of Doom, Frost." She corrected, turning back to the mission papers posted all over the board. Maybe it would be best to take a long one. She remembered that Luna had promised Diablo that they would train Frost to be a warrior, but he was still as much a coward as ever. Maybe the experience would do him good. She put back the mission she'd originally taken, and looked for a longer one. Spotting another, much longer mission, she immediately snatched it up, stepping back to read the slip.
Frost whined in fear.
"...That's strange...." The Leafeon murmured quietly.
Frost pricked his ears timidly, craning his neck to read the mission paper. "What's str-strange...?" He barked in a barely audible voice. He really didn't like this idea. He wanted to go home now...
"Well, they're specifically asking that we have only one or two members to come and help them. And it's partially an escort mission." Zori frowned in confusing.
"I... Z-Zori, I d-don't like the s-sound of th-that...." Frost replied with a low whine, glancing back at the Bulletin Board. "M-maybe we sh-should f-find another one..."
The Grass-type shook her head thoughtfully. "No. I think this warrants an investigation, and I don't want to leave this for a weaker team to risk their lives on." She replied firmly.
At this, Frost barked in alarm. "R-risk our l-l-lives?!" The Growlithe backed away nervously. "I d-d-don't want t-to g-go..."
Zori growled quietly. "Are you, or are you not the nephew of Diablo?" She demanded in a surprisingly patient tone.
"I-I am, b-b-but..."
"Then do him proud! Do your team proud! This isn't a terribly difficult mission, and you'll have a type advantage of over half of the Pokemon in there!" The Leafeon persuaded, her leafy ears pricked with determination. "If things get too rough, I can send us back with our badge, okay?"
Looking up into Zori's golden eyes, the Growlithe relented, whimpering slightly, but seeming a little more reassured. "O-okay... J-just... I'm not a very good fighter..." He admitted, ducking his head in shame.
"Don't worry, Frost. Some things come with time. You'll be stronger when you're older." The Leafeon murmured soothingly, turning and headed to leave.
Frost pricked his ears in surprise, before scampering hurriedly after Zori, not wanting to be left behind.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The slender, golden-eyed Leafeon stood in waiting, her eyes and strange, shimmering markings seeming to glow in the dim light of the delta. It was a rather eerie sight, but at the same time, it seemed beautiful. She sniffed at the air, her leafy tail flicking with impatience as she waited for their client to arrive.
At first, she'd just wanted to help Frost gain some experience in missions and battling, and possibly investigate the strange terms of this client's request, but now, seeing the delta... She wanted to be here more often. It was dark, yes, but it was pleasantly cool, and the air was clean. She felt very at home here. It would be worth it to explore.
She could feel Frost trembling from where he was lying, pressed up against her hind leg. His thick, blue fur was extremely soft and warm in comparison to the cool sand they stood on.
It was a little over an hour later when a Mightyena padded up to them, his crimson eyes flickering with mistrust. "You the escorts I sent for?" The massive canine asked roughly, his harsh gaze flickering down for a moment to examine Frost, who was edging nervously away from the Dark-type.
"Yes." Zori replied calmly, pricking her ears with curiousity. "We're from Team Stormcloud, of the Guild of the Sun." She introduced quietly. "I'm the captain, Zori, and this is Frost, our youngest recruit."
The Mightyena sniffed unappreciatively. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. Let's just get going already." He turned to leave, and Frost rose shakily to his paws to follow the large Dark-type.
Zori growled slightly at the Mightyena, flicking her tail slightly in a motion for Frost to stay behind her. She wanted to keep the young Growlithe close on this mission, especially with such an unusual, and rather bad-tempered client. She had a duty, above all, to keep her team safe, and she intended to preform that duty well.

Several hours later, the sound of falling rocks and pawsteps echoed throughout the tunnel, as the trio made their way steadily onward through a long, narrow cave. According to Flint, travelling through it would cut back on half of their travel time, although it was a tougher route to take.
Zori's small, delicate paws gripped the rocks with ease, and she clambered over them, pausing about halfway up the rocky slope to check on Frost, who was still clambering up behind them.
The Growlithe was have trouble, his limbs still short from puppyhood. He had a long way to go before he'd be able to get around as easily and gracefully as the older two Pokemon.
As his paws slipped on the damp stone, Frost let out a sharp, alarmed yelp, falling backward. He was caught, as Zori's teeth grabbed a firm hold on the young Fire-type's scruff, and the Leafeon pulled him to safety.
Frost clung tightly to the rock at Zori's paws, and the Leafeon sniffed at his thick, blue fur for any signs of injury. "Hold up, Flint; we have to slow the pace down for Frost. He's not used to the terrain." She called up to the Mightyena, her golden eyes shining brightly in the darkness of the cave.
The Mightyena bared his teeth silently, showing his displeasure, but he relented, pausing to wait as the Leafeon made her way up to the Dark-type, this time moving slower so as to help Frost along with her.
The Growlithe, grateful for the help, mimicked her movements, so as to take the shortest, and easiest route to the top. It was tricky to do, as he was a great deal less athletic than his captain, but she'd chosen the path with him in mind, and it was far easier than trying to make his way up alone.
Rejoining Flint, the Mightyena growled in irritation at the young Fire-type. "We can't keep slowing down for him, you know. Sooner or later, we'll have to start moving at a normal pace if we're to get there in time." He muttered to Zori, causing the Leafeon's ears to twitch.
"He'll be quicker on solid ground, I promise. He's just not experienced with this sort of rough terrain." She soothed the angry canine, continuing onward.
Flint gave a soft growl, but said nothing more, picking up the pace, and scrambling easily higher.
Zori sighed to herself, shaking her head. She glanced back at Frost. "How're you doing?" She asked him in a quiet undertone, being careful to keep her voice low, so as not to attract their client's attention.
"Th-this is hard, Z-Zori..." The Growlithe mumbled back, padding up to her side.
She rasped her tongue gently over the small Fire-type's ear, soothing him in a very motherly fashion. She'd been becoming steadily more and more maternal, and she figured it was probably Doku's influence. The gentle male had brought up a softer side in the Leafeon. Where she once looked to Luna for guidance, the Marowak now looked to her. It was strange, but somehow the team was already quite used to the new Zori.
"We'll be back out into the open air, soon, Frost. I promise." She wrapped her leafy tail delicately around Frost's shoulders, and stepped up onto the next boulder, guiding him up the slope.
"We're almost there!" Flint's sharp voice called out from somewhere ahead of them. Zori squinted to try and catch a glimpse of him, when suddenly, the Mightyena let out a panic-stricken cry.
"I'm coming, Flint!" Zori barked, bounding swiftly up the slope, and leaping from boulder to boulder with practiced precision.
Frost's eyes widened in awe as she disappeared into the shadows, and scrambled to follow, trying to copy the Leafeon. After several, scary moments where he nearly fell back down, he relented, and began searching for the easiest way up.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Zori bit down hard into the Vileplume's thick petals, poison spurting from her jaws as she did so. The Poison Fang cut deep, and the Vileplume screamed, shaking off the Leafeon, who rolled into the dust.
The Vileplume blasted a Poison Powder, the tiny, toxic spores glowing in the dim light of the tunnel.
Zori winced as they clung to her fur; it felt like thousands of tiny embers had caught on her pelt, steadily burning. A bell-like chime echoed from within her throat, and the spores dropped off, falling uselessly to the floor.
"Traitors! Outsiders! You are enemies of the WORST kind!" It shrieked at them. Zori froze, confused.
Flint ignored the Vileplume's cries, darting in from behind and hitting it with another Poison Fang, causing the Grass-type to let out another cry of pain. His teeth tore at it's petals, and their was a sickening tearing sound as one of them was ripped in half. The Vileplume was screaming at this point, and Zori couldn't stand back any longer.
She leaped at Flint, knocking him away from the Vileplume, who immediately fled into the depths of the cave.
She turned then on Flint, her golden eyes dark with fury. "It was defeated! You didn't have to hurt it that badly, Flint!" She snapped at him, her tail lashing angrily.
"Don't tell me how to fight, Leaf-brat." He snarled back, turning to leave. "You fight your way, and I'll fight mine. Got it?"
"So be it." She hissed, standing to wait for her teammate.
A few moments later, the gentle scuff of Frost's soft, fluffy paws could be heard, and the Growlithe paused next to Zori. "Wh-where is F-Fl-Flint...?" He stammered quietly, pressing close to the Leafeon for comfort in the dark cave.
"He's gone up ahead." She answered coldly, her ears pressed flat against her skull as she padded off down the tunnel.
Frost followed, knowing better than to ask anything more.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Zori lead the way out of the tunnel, her eyes easily adjusting to the dull, dim light of the outside world. Frost and Flint paused next to her. They were looking out over the whole of the delta, from atop a rather large cliff. Zori sniffed at the air, a soft growl rippling from her throat. "We'll have to make our way back down." She hissed in irritation, eying the Mightyena suspiciously. "This shortcut of yours has cost us more time than it would take just to walk straight out across the delta!" She accused.
The Mightyena snapped his fangs close to her muzzle warningly. "Would you rather get yourself stuck in the quicksand?" He barked back, his eyes narrowed with anger. He was lying. Zori could hear the catch in his voice as he spoke.
Frost whimpered in fear, hiding behind Zori as the Leafeon's upper lip curled in a silent snarl of defiance. "Let's just get moving." She growled at her companions, leading the way down the long, winding path back to the delta itself.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The heavy downpour of rain splattered the path, making it slippery, and difficult for any of the canines padding down the slope to get a grip with their paws.
Zori's claws had been able to hook into the ground for the first few minutes of the rainstorm, but now the ground was so slick and muddy that getting a grip was near impossible.
The drenched Leafeon led her trio closely along the rocky cliffside, giving them something to grab onto if they slipped, and providing at least a little shelter from the wind and rain.
"Z-Zori... I'm c-cold..." Frost whimpered quietly, from somewhere behind their client.
"Shut your yap, Pup; we're all cold, so you'll just have to deal with it." Flint snapped back at him, growling. It was obvious that the bad-tempered Mightyena was having as much trouble with the rain as Frost, his sheer weight making every slip on the muddy slope more dangerous.
A sudden rush of wind buffeted the group, causing all of them to cling tightly to the rock beside them.
Ignoring Flint's remark, Zori called back to her teammate, her voice strained from trying to speak up above the wind that howled in her ears. "We've got to keep moving, Frost! How long can you hang on?!"
"I-I th-think I c-can make it!" He shouted back over the wind.
Zori felt a flicker of pride at the determination of her timid recruit. "Then come on! Let's get out of this Arceus-damned rain!" She called back, half-sliding, half-clawing her way down the slope.
A shadowy figure slammed into the Leafeon, knocking her sideways off the edge with an eerie screech of hatred.
"Aaaah!" Zori screamed, barely managing to cling to the edge of the mud-coated path, and her hind paws flailing uselessly in the air below.
"Zori!" Frost shrieked in alarm, leaping out to save his captain.
A black paw flung out and knocked him back against the rocky wall. "Stay put, idiot! At least one of you has to stick with me!" The Mightyena barked in frustration, trying to push the Growlithe forward down the path, and keep the pair of them moving.
Something pulled sharply on the Leafeon's scruff, dragging her back onto the path, where she lay in the mud, her eyes wide with shock and confusion. As she rose to her paws, she realized that she couldn't see her companions, nor even whoever had saved her. Panic struck her with devastating force. "FROST!" She screamed, scrambling down the path as quickly as she could manage. "FROST, WHERE ARE YOU?!"
A returning cry answered her from farther down the path, and the Grass-type bolted toward the voice, her paws slipping horribly in the mud.
The ghostly figure she'd seen before had returned, knocking Frost back against the rocky cliff. The Growlithe yelped in pain, trying to scramble uphill toward his captain, where, in his mind, he would be safe.
Zori, however, couldn't stop on the mud-slicked path, and leaped, sailing high over Frost's head. Her Leaf Blade met with empty air, however, as the ghost disappeared into the shadows, and she tumbled headfirst into the mud.
"Z-Z-Zori, Z-Zori! Are you okay?!" Frost called out in alarm, skidding to a halt at her side.
The Leafeon hauled herself to her paws with an audible groan. "Yeah, I'll be fine." Her body ached from the brutal fights they'd already been in. Without sunlight, her Synthesis was deemed useless. She couldn't heal herself as she was used to.
"Wh-what was that?!" He asked fearfully, and Zori know he meant the strange, ghostly shadow that had attacked them on the path.
"I don't know."
Frost nuzzled his captain's shoulder worriedly, and the Leafeon winced, flinching away from his touch. A deep gash ran along her flank, most likely from sliding over the edge.
"Arceus..." She muttered sourly, and Frost whined, staring at her with his large, dark eyes. The Grass-type could only just make out a flicker of orange in them, squinting through the rain. "Where's Flint?"
"I-I d-dunno... He d-disappeared ab-bout halfway d-down the path..." The Growlithe whimpered. "Sh-should we g-go look f-for h-"
Zori sighed softly, pressing her muzzle comfortingly against Frost's neck. "It doesn't matter now. Let's get you out of the rain." She murmured quietly, leading him out onto the delta.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The small Growlithe curled up against Zori's flank, heat burning from deep inside his body, despite the cold rain that poured down over their heads.
As it turned out, there was no shelter on the delta. No trees, no hollow logs... nothing. And so there they lay, curled up together for warmth in the long grasses. The icy rain of the storm had been falling for hours, and showed no signs of stopping yet.
Zori's body was curled protectively around Frost, her leafy tail resting over his body to try and deflect some of the rain.
Both Leafeon and Growlithe were fast asleep, despite the harsh weather, worn out from their hike through the tunnels, and their ordeal returning to the delta.
Lightning lit up the delta, revealing a familiar figure approaching the sleeping teammates.
Flint padded cautiously closer, his thick, black fur drenched with rainwater. A battlewounds and scrapes ran along his flanks and hindquarters, as though he'd been chased away by a particularly brutal enemy.
The Mightyena paused, examining Zori and Frost in silence for a moment, before glancing back at a strange figure. "They're pretty beat up. That blasted idiot nearly killed them both!" He growled to his companion.
The sleeping Leafeon's ear twitched, the movement going unnoticed by the Flint and his companion in the heavy rainfall.
"We'll see to him later. For now, just get them through to the pass." The figure replied. "And be sure to take the route by the river."
Flint nodded, turning back to look at the pair of Sun Guilders. "I'll wake them soon."
The other Pokemon turned and left, disappearing into the rain.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

"Where'd you go, last night when we were attacked?" Zori asked, limping along next to Frost. The gash on her shoulder was paining her, and she knew she'd probably gotten it infected, from the amount of rain and mud the night before.
"That Gengar chased me off." The Mightyena replied gruffly. He, too, was moving slower today because of his injuries, and he hung back with the pair of Sun Guilders, leading them along the river's edge.
Zori's ears pricked in surprise. "A Gengar? What did he want with us?" She questioned, glancing beside her at Frost. The Growlithe shrugged timidly, choosing to stay silent in the presence of the Mightyena.
"That one's just violent in general. He's one of the reasons I needed your help to get to my friend." the Mightyena admitted, turning his head away, seemingly ashamed to admit his situation.
Zori frowned slightly. 'Mightyena are Dark-type; they should have the advantage over Gengar. He must be pretty strong for Flint to need our help.' She thought herself, staring at the ground beneath her paws as she stumbled on.
'But Flint was so strong, yesterday, the way he fought off that Belossum... What's going on here?' Zori's thoughts were interrupted as Frost gave a sharp squeal of terror, bolting away from the river's edge.
A strong gust of wind blasted into Zori's side, sending a sharp pain running through the Leafeon's shoulder. She cried out in pain, and Flint leaped past her, electricity sparking from his jaws as he plunged a Thunder Fang deep into the body of a Finneon. The little Water-type went limp almost instantly, but it wasn't alone; Finneon traveled in schools.
Several of them shot off Water Pulses at their aggressor, sending the Mightyena crashing down into the river.
Alarmed, Frost urged Zori to her paws. "Zori, you've got to help him!"
The Leafeon nodded, dazed, and leaped into the shallows of the river, swiping a Leaf Blade at the Finneon school to disperse them.
Several of them backed off, but a few remained, using Gust to send Zori flying back again. Already terribly weakened, Zori fought to get to her feet.
Frost shot off a Flamethrower, scorching the scales of the Finneon. But as the inexperienced Growlithe wasn't very strong, all he succeeded in doing was angering them.
The trio were bombarded with Water Pulses, driving them back away from the river, and they gladly retreated, heading inland, and away from the water's edge.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

"YOU!" Zori screeched, glaring furiously at the Mightyena. "You led us along the river! You knew about those Finneon, didn't you! DIDN'T YOU?!"
"I didn't know anything, Leaf-brat! I thought the river was the safest route! How was I supposed to know that the Finneon there are territorial?!" He spat back, metting Zori's glare eye to eye, before leading the way off into the grasses.
'You LIVE here, Flint. How could you not know?' She thought sadly, her eyes flickering back toward Frost. The Growlithe met her gaze with weary eyes. He was exhausted. 'No one so young should have to endure this...'

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Zori padded wearily through the pass, her eyes dull with exhaustion. Frost trudged along behind her, fighting not to get left behind. Ahead of them, Flint was limping, but being less tired than his companions, had taken the lead.
Rocky cliffs stretched high into the sky on either side of them, and they were forced in close to the river once more.
"This is the end of the delta. I'm pretty sure my friend was around here somewhere..." The Mightyena noted gruffly, sniffing at the air.
Moments later, as if on cue, another Mightyena appeared, looking bright-eyed and energetic. His coat was clean and silky, as though he'd been hidden away all through the rainstorm that had struck the night before. He certainly didn't look as though he was in need of rescue.
"Slate! I've been looking for you!" Flint called out, padding out to greet his friend.
"Looking for me? Ahh, but you shouldn't have to look." The voice was all too familiar to Zori, and the Leafeon hissed in fury. "Oh? It seems that your little friend was paying attention last night, Flint..."
Both Mightyena turned on Zori, and Frost whimpered, staggering backward to try and escape. More Mightyena filed into the pass from behind them, and Frost yelped in alarm.
Zori glanced back, her eyes widening with horror. They were badly outnumbered, and in no shape to fight even half of them. 'This whole thing was a trap! That was why he wanted only a few of us to come!' The Leafon bared her teeth threateningly, although she knew she was no danger to the Mightyena pack. 'The Vileplume! She didn't trust us because we were with Flint! She must have thought she was the subject of one of their ambushes! They led us through the caves to give them time to prepare the attack, and the trail by the river was a way to weaken us enough that we couldn't fight back! But the Gengar... They said they'd 'deal with it'? Where does it fit in...?"
The Leafeon's panicked thoughts were sharply cut off as she found herself knocked to the ground, and she lashed out with a Leaf Blade, trying to swipe the Mightyena off of her. She reached for her team badge, and her eyes widened in alarm. 'MY BADGE! WHERE IS IT?!'
She could hear Frost's panicked cries, and she struggled to get free, desperately trying to reach the Growlithe.
A sudden, shrill cry broke through the sounds of battle, and a familiar shadow swiped the Mightyena from Zori, freeing her of the Dark-type's wrath.
She staggered to her paws, hissing and spitting as she used a Giga Drain to draw energy from the Mightyena around her.
The Gengar dove in from the side, slamming a Thunderpunch into the side of a Mightyena's skull, knocking it away from Frost. The Growlithe twisted, blasting a Flamethrower at his attacker, pressing it back away from the Gengar.
The Gengar struck another Mightyena with an Ice Punch, the frozen spines driving deep into it's skull. It slid to the ground, dead before it had realized what happened.
The Leafeon shot a Seed Bomb into the crowd, the grassy seeds exploding on impact with the heads and flanks of the Mightyena.
Frost was spewing flame in every direction, panicked by the Mightyena that surrounded him at every turn. He leaped back as one lunged for his throat, meeting the Mightyena's teeth with a Fire Fang of his own. The two canines twisted, their fierce snarls rippling the air as Frost tried to fend off his attacker.
He was saved as the Gengar leaped onto the Mightyena's shoulders, wrapping it's arms around it's neck, and wrestling the Mightyena away from Frost. The Mightyena twisted to reach the Gengar, it's sharp teeth only just grazing it's arm as it tried to fling it off.
Zori swiped a Leaf Blade at the back of the Mightyena's legs, bringing it down to it's knees, where the Gengar prompty knocked it out with a Shadow Punch. However, Zori's strike was not intended. The Leafeon struggled to her paws, and was once again bowled over by the larger, more powerful body of the Mightyena she fought. Another one dove in from the side, fangs aimed for her throat, but she swept him aside with a Magical Leaf, the multicoloured leaves twisting and striking at the now-distracted canine. The Leafeon's Leaf Blade met the Mightyena's Shadow Claw at every turn, the pair of them swiping viciously at eachother as they each tried to tear at eachother's throats.
Gengar blasted a Dark Pulse at at the crowd surrounding it, trying to force it back enough to put up a proper fight. Frost was at it's side, his varied Fire attacks blasting and burning through the thick, heavy fur of the Mightyena. Claws swiped at his throat, and Frost lunged back at his attack with a Fire Fang, digging his sharp teeth into the back of the other canine's neck. The Gengar, taking advantage of the fact that Frost had a Mightyena unable to move, swung in with a Fire Punch, striking the Dark-type hard in the jaw. It howled, thrashing as it tried to break itself free.
The Gengar was swinging mixed punches in every direction, scattering the Mightyena. One lunged, but was quickly knocked back with an Ice Punch, the ice splintered on contact, and causing the hound to cry out as it scrambled to escape.
They were winning, although none of them had the strength to keep it up.
Zori let out an earsplittingly loud whistle, the melodic noise causing the entire battlefield to slow. Movements became clumsy and sluggish, everyone beginning to slow as drowsiness set in.
Frost stumbled, and fell to the ground, asleep before his fluffy body made contact with the solid earth.
Mightyena everywhere dropped down, followed by swiftly followed by the Gengar, who pretty much face-planted into the ground.
Zori sighed with relief, and padded cautiously toward the sleeping Ghost-type, being careful to avoid waking the sleeping Mightyena. She pressed her muzzle up close to the Gengar and let out a soft chiming noise. With Heal Bell curing the Ghost's status, it bolted upright, swinging a fist to strike her, which the Leafeon promptly stopped with a Shadow Force, staring hard at the Gengar.
It relaxed, looking around. "...Grasswhistle?" It asked Zori dryly, raising a ghostly eyebrow.
She nodded.
After a moment, the Gengar spoke again. "...I suppose you're waiting for an explanation?" He sighed heavily, regarding her with his large, red eyes.
"You attacked us on the ledge. Why do you help us now?" She demanded to know, her eyes dull with pain and confusion.
The Gengar grimaced. "I had to separate you from the Mightyena; you wouldn't leave his side long enough for me to bring him down." He explained, earning a scathing look from the Leafeon.
"Don't look at me that way; I had planned to bring him down, and go find you so that I could explain properly. What I didn't plan on, is that the Mightyena's pack members would back him up when he fled. I couldn't face them all, so I turned tail and ran."
"But you didn't come back for us..." Zori's voice was soft and quiet, and the Gengar winced.
"I couldn't. By the time I found you, so had they. That Flint fellow and his pack leader were there; I couldn't take them both on at once. So I backed off. I figured I could meet you here at the pass." The Ghost seemed uncomfortable as he spoke.
Both fell silent, and Zori turned to glance at Frost, who still lay asleep at the Gengar's feet. "You didn't abandon us. I guess I should thank you for that." She admitted with a soft sigh. "But what about the pack? Why were they so intent on luring us here?"
"Hunger, probably. Their pack has grown so large that they've overgrown the delta itself. There's not enough Pokemon here to feed the pack without unbalancing our lives." The Gengar murmured guiltily. "When their pack leader asked me for advice, I suggested that he try to find food from outside the delta. I didn't mean for him to lure prey in; I thought he'd leave."
Zori's ear flattened. "Their leaving wouldn't have solved anything. It would just be moving the problem elsewhere." She noted wearily.
"I realize that now." The Gengar sighed, holding out a shiny, rather familiar object.
"YOU STOLE MY BADGE?!" The Leafeon hissed in accusation.
The Gengar nodded solemnly, looking rather ashamed. "Back on the ledge, when I knocked you out of the way. I had to make you didn't leave before I could get a chance to talk to you, to ask for help." His voice took on a rather pleading note, and Zori's anger faded, the Leafeon carefully accepting the badge back from him.
"Well... I guess you won't have to worry now." She murmured quietly, glancing around. Their battle had thinned out the ranks of the pack by a lot. Hopefully it would be enough not to over-populate the delta again. "We'll be taking Flint and their leader with us, for crimes against the Guild of the Sun, but the ones who we leave behind should return to their normal lives soon enough..."
The Gengar nodded understandingly. "It's time you left, before the rest of the pack wakes up." He told her quietly.
Zori nodded in farewell. "Thank you."
Both Pokemon paused in surprise as they spoke together, but relaxed, grinning.
"I'm glad we could help." The Leafeon told him finally, holding up her badge. It glinted dimly in the dull, darkened light of the delta.
After a moment, it shone brightly, and Zori, Frost, Flint, and the pack leader were all transported back to the guild in a flash of light.
The Gengar stood where he was for but a moment, staring at the open air where the Leafeon had once stood, before sighing and sinking down into the shadows. He fully disappeared as the pack began to wake.

After the incident was reported, Officer Magnezone and the police showed up quickly at the guild.

"Bbbzzzttt- Thank you -bzt- for capturing these criminals. Bzztt- this helps us greatly in the investigation of -bzt- several missing Pokemon."

He and several Magnemites began to retrain the two unconscious Mightyenas.

Something popped up and out of the floor in front of Zori and Frost then, a familiar gengar. The Ghost type nodded in respect to Zori, and then turned to Frost with a wry grin.

"Not bad kid. With a little help from your friends-" He flicked something at the Growlithe, "-you'll get better yet."

The Gengar disappeared into the floor, and if Frost examines the TM he was given, he'll find it to be the move Beat Up.

Only then did they notice a figure standing next to where the Gengar had gone. It was a Vileplume, one petal missing and heavily bandaged. It was clutching a small yellow seed, vines sprouting out of it to form a necklace.

"I-I heard what happened. I'm...sorry I attacked, and I thank you for getting...getting rid of them." It hissed, looking back at the Mightyenas. "This...this was my mother's. Please, take it, and I would like to join you." It handed the Miracle seed to Zori.

Behind it Flint seemed to have woken up, and started pleading at Team Stormcloud to save him. The Vileplume glared at him, turning back to Zori.

"Don't, he doesn't deserve it."

Zori & Frost

Zori flat out ignored Flint, who was dragged away by the Magnezone and it's Magnemite companions. Even if she had wanted to save him, she doubted that she could've convinced the Steel-types to release him.
Frost blinked in surprise as the Gengar passed him over the TM. It sunk into his paws, disappearing from view. The Growlithe yelped in surprise, having never used a Technical Machine before.
"Frost, it's just a TM. It's supposed to do th- OH! Hey, hey! Gengar, wait!" She suddenly yelped as the Ghost-type sank beneath the ground. "Wh-what was... your name?" She sighed to herself. Perhaps they'd meet again.
The soft voice of the Vileplume distracted both teammates, causing them to turn and look at the Vileplume. Zori looked sympathetic, but at the same time unsure. "I don't mean to be rude, but..."
"I understand." The Vileplume replied calmly, handing over her precious Miracle Seed to Zori. The strange, vine-like tendrils wrapped securely around Zori's neck. "I suppose my colony needs me anyway. I'd miss them, if I left them behind."
Zori smiled, saved the duty of turning her down. "It was great meeting you. I'm sorry about the circumstances, though." She told her new, Grass-type friend.
"Come visit again, soon; the delta will be a lot safer without Flint and Slate." The Vileplume urged happily.
"I will!" "N-NO WAY!" "...Although... Maybe not with Frost."
The pair giggled, the Leafeon waving goodbye as one of the Pokemon present to receive the incoming team Teleported the Vileplume back home.
"...So, you feeling braver yet, Frost?"

Everything was quiet in the Room of Team MistMelody. For one reason or another, every member was out and about today, except two. Era lay silently on her bed with Riley at her side. The Pikachu was in a state of forced bed rest by Sereni and the Eevee simply refused to leave her side. Era supposed it was an improvement, if only slight; Riley hadn't wanted anything to do with any of them, but the moment the Pikachu had returned on that day from her close encounter with death or madness he had refused to leave her side. Granted he didn't talk to anyone but Era, and spoke only a few words to her regardless, but it was more than he'd done before so no one was about to complain, least of all Era herself.

As they lay there, Era sat up with a sigh, causing Riley to raise his head with a look of mild curiosity. ”Riley, we have got to get out of here,” she said, looking around at the Team Room rather unhappily. The Eevee's eyes spoke for him, asking why she would say something like that and the Pikachu responded without hesitation, ”I'm fine, really, no matter what Sereni says. Javs fixed me up perfectly fine, there's nothing wrong with my mind!” Era was bored; there was nothing wrong with her at all, yet she was being penned up in one place and not allowed to leave. She was not about to stand for it, so there was nothing better to do than find a mission. Not only would it give her something to do, it would get Riley out and about as well, which he needed more than anything else at the moment.

Riley was unresponsive for a long moment, his ears lowered and eyes downcast. The Eevee was still suffering from his battle with Ethfael, and it wouldn't stop haunting him. He truly believed that he should be forced to leave the Team for what he had done, yet the thought of how he had killed the ghost that had pretended to be his own mother still weighed down on his mind. His mind was a jumble of mixed emotions that constantly clashed with one another, and it scared him. Being around Era reassured him, made him believe that things would be alright, and when she'd arrived suddenly almost dead, the Eevee had made a silent vow not to leave her side. With a sigh he looked up and met her hopeful eyes. ”Alright,” he replied quietly, getting to his feet, ready to follow where she led.

The Pikachu beamed, her eyes shining with gratitude, ”Thank you Riley!” she said happily, jumping to her feet and grabbing the bag without a second thought. ”We'll take something nice and simple, and be back in time to stop everyone from worrying themselves too much.” Era wasn't normally reckless, but she didn't see it as reckless, she saw it as doing herself and Riley a service, and in a sense it was. Once she was ready she turned to beckon Riley to come, only to find the Eevee silently waiting at attention by the door. With a smile, she opened the door and headed out, Riley following as they headed to the Mission Board.

When they arrived, Era's eyes trailed over the Missions but shifted shortly after to the Bounties. One in particular caught her eye and she reached a paw up to take it down, reading it over carefully. ”A Pikachu's causing trouble?” she murmured questioningly, causing Riley to peer over her shoulder at the note, blinking in surprise when he read the description. ”What do you think Riley?” Era said, ”I think we could handle this one.” The Eevee nodded mutely, his eyes disinterested again, and Era's heart fell. She'd just have to keep trying if she wanted to get the old Riley back, and that was exactly what she intended to do. ”Alright then,” she said, bringing a smile to her face, ”Well then, let's go!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When the two arrived at Dismal Delta it truly was a dismal sight. The dark clouds that hung overhead did nothing to improve the spirits of the two Pokemon as they arrived, and Riley especially felt as though his spirits had sunken even lower than they had been at the Guild. The pair stood atop a hill beside the river that flowed down into the numerous streams below. The entire area seemed to give off an aura of unhappiness, and everything seemed gray rather than colorful like the area around a river or stream is supposed to be. The flora was withered except for a few resilient weed-like plants that forced their way through the hard ground beside the water. One would almost think that the sun never shone upon this place, as though it was forgotten by Arceus himself.
As they stood, looking over the area to try and discern where they were headed, a flash of lightning suddenly shot down from the sky in the far distance, followed immediately after by the rumble of thunder. As the lightning came down, Era's fur stood on end from its power; even though it was far away she felt it as though it had touched down right beside her. Although she didn't say anything to Riley, it sent chills down her spine as she recalled the lightning from the fight with Ivan. The lightning that shot right past her before...Era shuddered and Riley silently pressed against her, reassuring the Pikachu that everything was still alright. ”Well,” she said, swallowing her uncertainty and glancing at her companion, ”I guess we know where we're headed then.”
Riley looked her over cautiously, his eyes meeting hers and holding them in his gaze ”Are you sure you're alright Era?” His voice sounded worn and rough from lack of use as he spoke up. The Pikachu blinked with surprise, the simple sentence was as long a sentence as he'd said since the day that he'd stopped talking. Riley seemed genuinely concerned too, which touched her heart.
”Yes, I'm sure,” she said to reassure him, placing a gentle paw on his back. The fur where her paw touched bristled with surprise at first but then slowly began to lay flat as the Eevee calmed down. He leaned into her touch, allowing her to soothe his troubled thoughts and she waited patiently until the tension in his muscles faded. ”Shall we go?” she asked him. Riley nodded in response and she smiled as they headed down towards whatever awaited them below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The further the pair went down the hill, the harder the going got. The gray, dying grass gave way to a wet, marshy area that was terribly difficult to walk through. More than once both Era and Riley had to pause as the other one struggled to get their paws out of the muck that they were walking through. As Era shook the mud off of her wings for the umpteenth time, she felt a soft touch on her shoulder. Riley offered something close to an apologetic smile and pointed with a muddied paw up ahead where the river they were walking beside began to branch off. Era smiled in return and nodded; that was where they could find their heading.

As they started heading toward the break, both of them soon found that going forward was impossible the way things were now. Every few steps they made resulted in more and more stumbles and falls until at last they couldn't do anything at all without getting stuck. ”We have to get out of this...” Era muttered, ”Or else-” She found herself cut off suddenly by a spray of water to the face as a Water Gun hit her straight on, causing Riley to jump forward in the Electric Type's defense as she fell to the ground.

”Well this is a surprise, you hired a body guard?” jeered a voice, ”A little Eevee to keep you from being attacked?” Three Water Pulse attacks of varying size came flying toward Riley at once, but the Eevee was unfazed. Instead he closed his eyes and paused where he stood, unresponsive. The instant before they hit him the Eevee vanished, unable to be seen much to their attackers' confusion. Aided by a Detect and Quick Attack combination, Riley had moved faster than the eye could see, and was currently standing on the other side of the river, emotionless eyes scanning the water as the Pokemon within searched for him on the other side. The combo was a move that he used sometimes in disappearing acts, almost as useful as a Teleport in some cases. As they tried to find him the Eevee tapped into his Stored Power and sent a stream of cards flying through the water. His aim was true and the three were all hit fiercely by the unexpected attack.

Riley stood on the edge of the river, watching undaunted as the three began to swim in a circle, sending a Whirlpool flying toward him. The Eevee crouched down and jumped through the center of the attack, sending a Secret Power made from jagged Diamonds that cut into the Water Types. As the water began to grow darker from the blood that had begun to pool from the three, he sent another Secret Power at them, this one made from pointed Spades. As cries of pain were heard from within, Riley silently leaned down to the water, reaching out a paw as if to touch it. ”Riley, stop!” came Era's voice from the other side, causing the Eevee to look up, his eyes losing their lack of feeling slightly and gaining a hint of curiosity.

”You're practically killing them...” the Pikachu murmured. She'd gotten up off the muddy ground to see the dark waters stained with blood, and that was all the more she needed to intervene. The old Riley wasn't like this, he was sweet and gentle and he wouldn't hurt a thing. This Riley didn't seem to care, he was like a machine that didn't stop until instructed. It frightened her to see what he had become.

By this time the crying had died down a bit, and Era carefully made her way down to the side of the river, searching for their attackers. Her wings, though muddy, still shone brightly from her back, and they brought on a muted gasp from below her. Hearing the noise, Era looked down in the water to find a small Finneon staring up at her. When she reached a paw toward the child, it shrunk back, whimpering slightly. ”Shhh, it's okay,” Era said softly, leaving her paw just above the water, ”Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you.” The other Pokemon glanced back at Riley tentatively and she shook her head, ”No, he won't hurt you either.” The child looked up at her warily and then swam a bit closer to the top of the river. It came up a little at a time, and then finally it surfaced, brushing its head against the surface of her paw.

”Facet!” came a shout from nearby, and Era suddenly found herself being blown back by Silver Wind as a Lumineon emerged, angrily jumping to the defense of her son. Riley leaped across the river to Era's side in an instant, turning on the Lumineon, ready to attack before Era grabbed onto him, stopping him in his tracks. When Era managed to stand up straight again, the Lumineon was taken aback as she took the Pikachu into her sight, gaping with astonishment at the wings that adorned her back. ”What is this trickery?” she said warily, ”Since when did you get wings, you coward?”

Era once again held Riley back, smiling apologetically, ”I'm afraid you have me mixed up with someone else,” she said, ”My name is Era and this is Riley, we're from Team MistMelody, a Rescue Team with the Guilds.” She rummaged in the bag and pulled out her badge to show to the Lumineon that she was telling the truth. ”We got a notice about a Pikachu causing trouble around here, I'm guessing you probably mistook me for that Pokemon. We're actually here to find out what's going on and stop that Pikachu from causing you any more trouble.”

The Lumineon looked at her uncertainly for a moment, but then sighed and seemed to relax a bit. ”I suppose you couldn't be the same,” she said weakly, ”I thought there was something a little different about you, but I didn't see the wings.” She shuddered slightly, ”We wouldn't have attacked if I hadn't thought you were him. You bear a striking resemblance without the wings though...” Era looked quizzically at the Water Type, but she said nothing in explanation, merely sighed.

Facet, as she had called the younger Finneon, squirmed to get out from under her fin which she allowed. He swam back and came forward aiding a second Finneon, this one in bad condition. Both he and his mother were covered in little scratches here and there, but this other one had a long gash down her side that was still bleeding freely. Era's eyes widened in shock, and she came up to the water, staring at the little one nervously. The mother Lumineon looked at her other child sadly, ”I know it's not your fault,” she said to Era, ”You had to act in your own defense I know...” She trailed off, nuzzling her wounded child sadly.

Era looked on silently, her eyes tearing up at the sight of one so young in such a condition. ”I might be able to help,” she said softly, looking at the Lumineon for permission. The mother nodded, and Era carefully reached out a paw to touch the injured Finneon. The other Pokemon shrunk away, just like her brother had, but in the end, the Pikachu was able to make the connection. Silently she closed her eyes and made a silent Wish for the young Pokemon's healing. There were several moments of worrying silence that hung over them in which nothing happened, and then suddenly a bright light began to flow steadily from Era to the Finneon. It enveloped the girl and coursed through her, lighting up the injured area and steadily knitting it back together. They remained like that for several long minutes until at last the light ceased, and Era fell back, tired out from the healing and the Finneon blink, her entire body healed as though she had never been attacked.

The Lumineon stared in shock as her daughter smiled and began to swim about contentedly, Facet cheerfully following. ”My dear,” she said to Era, eyes brimming with gratefulness, ”You must have been sent by Arceus himself.” The Pikachu began to protest but the Lumineon continued on, ”You said your name was Era yes? And your Eevee friend is called Riley? Please, come with us.” With that she turned and began to swim off, forcing Era to hurry after with Riley following behind her.

They traveled quickly down the path of the leftmost stream when they reached the divide, the family leading the way up ahead. It was more difficult for the pair of them on land as they forged their way through the gray mud toward wherever their guides were leading them, but they managed to keep their footing well enough that they could keep up. They traveled downstream to where another smaller stream branched off of it, and turned to follow it. It led to a small cove wherein the river collected into a miniature pond. In the pond Facet and his sister were swimming around, surrounded by other families of Lumineon and Finneon, as well as families of Seaking and Goldeen. The overall atmosphere was tense and uncertain, and there were far too many Pokemon crowded into far too little of a space.

As Era walked in, all eyes turned to her and the place grew silent and filled with hostility. Despite her wings it seemed that they didn't quite believe she wasn't this other elusive Pikachu who looked so much like herself. ”Mandria, what is this?” a Seaking asked, swimming forward to the forefront of the group. He was bigger than most of the other Seaking there, revealing his dominance in the Water Type group. ”Why have you brought this demon, unchained, unbound, back to us?” He looked in Era's direction with disdain, inducing a glare from Riley as he stepped out in front of her.

”Don't worry Medinus,” the Lumineon said, ”It's not him, it's another Pikachu. They may look similar but Era is different. Not only is she a girl but she also has those lovely...”

”Wings,” Era finished for her, causing the crowd to gasp. ”They're wings,” she continued undaunted, ”Myself and Riley here are from the Guilds. We received notification of a Pikachu that was causing you all problems around here, and we're here to help. She smiled at them pleasantly, ”It's our job to handle things like this. I realize that I look like the one who's been causing you trouble, but we're very different, I assure you.” The last statement was more tentative than the others, she'd never met this Pikachu, so she couldn't really be sure of it, but in the very least it was true that they were different Pokemon despite their appearance.

”Is that so?” the Seaking replied, swimming toward her pensively.

”It's true sir,” Mandria replied, ”I've seen that they're different with my own eyes. She healed my daughter after we attacked them.” The Lumineon beckoned her children over and the pair swam up, the girl's non-injured complexion contrasting greatly with her brothers' appearance. ”Without her...” she continued, ”Without her there, little Entia might not have made it back.” Era smiled at the Lumineon, grateful for the support; she didn't know what the Seaking was thinking, but she hoped it was in her favor.

”I see...” Medinus replied, looking Era over. ”Well if you really are who you claim to be, then there's no reason not to trust you, but there's no real way to make certain you are who you claim to be.” As he spoke, thunder echoed in the distance and he laughed a bit, ”Don't think that will fool me, I know that you don't have to be there for your lightning to remain.” Era backed up slightly, Riley by her side as he came ever closer her expression growing slightly fearful. ”Are you afraid?” the Water Type said, sounding delighted, ”Then you'd better run little Pikachu, run back to your home on the banks before we come after you.”

Although she could likely have take on Medinus himself with Riley's help, the whole cove of Water Types would doubtless be too much for two Pokemon to handle. As Riley stepped forward, fur bristling and gaze set to kill, Era silently shook her head. ”Don't Riley, there's nothing we can do.” she murmured. Looking back at the Seaking she began to back away as he and the others started to advance on them, ”Alright, we'll leave,” she said, ”You don't have to force us out, we'll go peacefully. We really do want to help you, but if you don't want our help, then so be it.” Nodding to them slightly, the Pikachu turned away and headed out of the cove, back down the path of the river with Riley trotting at her heels. Murmurs trailed after the pair, but they kept going without faltering, never looking back.

Once they were far enough away that the cove had vanished from view, Era paused, Riley turning back to look at her as she stopped. ”What can we do?” she said worriedly, ”We can't leave this alone, they can't handle a criminal by themselves. If he's as much of a worry as the Bounty implies, then Water Types shouldn't be facing against him.” This nameless enemy was nagging at her mind, prodding her curiosity. He was a Pikachu and the Water Types didn't like him, that was evident, but no one had named a crime that he had done. Not only that, but this alleged criminal possessed an appearance similar to that of her own. There were plenty of questions that Era wanted answers to but didn't know how to get them.

Riley didn't respond, his eyes on the horizon where lightning struck far ahead. The Eevee wondered exactly what was going on also, but he didn't truly care. He was more concerned with getting through this and getting back with them both still in one piece. He glanced at Era for a moment, her gaze pleading with him to say something, to help her understand through her confusion and for just a moment, something brushed against his heart, causing him to gasp with pain at how much it hurt. ”Er...a...” he gasped, falling to his knees painfully.

Era's eyes widened in shock at the sudden change in Riley's condition, and she hurried over to her companion's side. ”Riley! Riley what's wrong!?” she said, grabbing his paw in her own as his hazy eyes met hers. She was scared; terrified that he was hurt and that it had been her fault. ”Please, please Riley...”

The Eevee coughed painfully, and suddenly his gaze sharpened into one of pain and fear. ”Era! What's going on?” he moaned, ”It's so dark and cold here, and I can't feel...I can't feel anything.” He seemed to be almost lucid yet this was the closest to normal that she'd seen him in so long. ”Era please...” Riley said, his tone pleading, ”I don't know what's wrong with me, help me...” He clenched his own paw tightly around Era's, holding it close to his chest as he subsided into a fit of twitching and intense pain.

Era didn't know what to do or what to say, her heart raced as she watched Riley on the ground, holding onto his paw as tightly as he held hers. This was real though, this was the Riley that she knew, not the false one that had taken his place, and she didn't want to lose him. ”I'm here Riley,” she murmured, standing there as she watched him flail helplessly, ”I won't let you go, I promise.” And as she stood there on the bleak and barren landscape of the delta, eyes locked on him, there were no words that meant more to her than those.

As if on cue, the Eevee shuddered on final time and his eyes closed, his body ceasing to move. His breathing still came in harsh gasps, and he lay there for several moments, recovering from the episode. When he reopened his eyes all emotion was gone from them once more, and he stared up at Era as if to ask why she was holding his paw. The Pikachu, realizing that whatever had just happened was over for the moment, reluctantly let go of his paw, holding it close to her chest. Riley deftly leaped to his paws and began heading forward down beside the water. Era followed along quietly, the two having switched places for the moment as they walked down the stream back towards the central delta.

When they reached the break that had taken them down toward the cove itself, a familiar voice was heard faintly in the distance. ”Era, Riley, wait!” it called, causing Era to turn back and Riley to follow suit. Sure enough, there was Mandria, swimming as quickly as she could towards them. The Lumineon made her way up nearby where they waited, peering out of the water apologetically towards them. ”I'm so sorry for the trouble you had back there!” she said, ”I didn't think that he would react so badly to another Pikachu. Please don't leave though, we do need your help. None of us can face him ourselves, he's just too much for any of us here to handle.”

Era sighed wearily; the stress was admittedly getting to her, and she was beginning to wonder if it really had been such a good idea to take this Bounty after all. Whether it was or not though, here they were and here they'd stay until the job was done; that was the way the Guilds worked. ”Don't worry,” she said to the friendly Lumineon, ”Riley and I weren't leaving, we were just heading a different way. We'll keep out of the way of Medinus and the rest of you, and hopefully we can avoid any more trouble.”

”Oh, I'm so glad,” Mandria replied, her eyes lighting up happily, ”Thank you for not giving up on us.” Looking around furtively as if she might be caught, the Lumineon beckoned them closer. As the bent down, she gave one more glance back and forth before continuing. ”I'm not sure how much help this will be, but it's the best I can give you,” she whispered, ”There are lots of strange things going on around here, not just the thunderstorms, and they've been making the Pokemon restless. Something unnatural is taking place but we don't know what. The Pikachu who's causing this, we don't even dare to say his name, but he looks just like you. He sometimes comes around the area, but he's never said anything to anyone, and we always chase him off before he can do any harm...” She bit her lip as if about to say something but thought the better of it and remained silent.

Era nodded, listening carefully to the Lumineon's words; she appreciated it greatly, as they now had an idea of what they were up against, which was at least a start. ”Thank you very much,” the Pikachu said, ”I'm glad we have some idea what we're up against.” She glanced up as another bolt of lightning hit the ground, closer now than it had been before, and her fur bristled in anticipation of meeting this Pokemon. ”Thank you for your help Mandria,” she said pleasantly, ”Riley and I should be heading onward then.”

As they turned to head forward, Mandria waved a fin in farewell, ”Best of luck Rescue Team!” she called after them. ”May you be successful, for the sake of all of us.”

The pair wandered on, Era leading and Riley following mutely behind as before. Frequently the Pikachu would glance back at the Eevee, but not once did she get a response. His eyes were fixated on the ground staring at nothing; the intensity of his gaze was frightening, and although no emotion lay within his eyes he looked as though he could stare through the earth he was looking at. There was little interruption from anything else, the gray landscape laying forlornly all around them and not a sound from anything, it was as though everything had vanished, leaving only the Pikachu and Eevee, alone and forgotten by the world.

The silence was shattered abruptly by malicious cackling that seemed to start far away and grow nearer and nearer. The duo stopped and looked around for its source to find a pair of Gastly materializing before them. Riley's hackles rose as he crouched down and Era stepped back, uncertain of the motive of these two. ”Hello there!” giggled the one on the right, ”We've been expecting you!”

”He wants to see you right away, yes he does!” the one on the left chimed in, ”Cute little Rescue Team from the Guild, you need to go meet him. Indio and Ceria will take you there, yes we will!” It was obvious that the Gastly was referring to herself and the other Gastly, although which was which was a mystery.

Riley's hackles remained erect as he stared them down, not seeming to care whether they were friend or foe. Era, on the other hand, looked from one to the other uncertainly, but the Gastly's faces betrayed nothing but gleeful mischief. ”Who do you want to take us to meet?” she asked them.

The Gastly both chuckled gleefully, faces alight with delight, ”Clever clever Pikachu,” they said in perfect tandem, ”You belong with your own kind, and that's where we'll take you.” Era's eyes widened with shock; these two knew the Pikachu they were after? She wasn't entirely certain what to do, but there was no one to help her decide; Riley was the only one there and the Eevee was standing with his eyes on the Gastly, appearing ready to tear them to shreds if given the chance. As it turned out though, she didn't need an answer, instead the two ghosts began to circle her incessantly. ”Come with us, come with us!” they chanted softly in her ears, causing her no small amount of confusion as they seemed to come closer and closer. ”Come back with us...”

Their voices blended together into a mesmerizing song-like sound that echoed in the minds of Era and Riley both and slowly but surely overpowered the pair of them, the double Hypnosis sending them into deep sleep. The Gastly both began to change, their forms shifting so that they had arms with which they caught the fallen Pikachu and Eevee.

”Nighty night!”

”We'll see you in the morning!”

When Era awoke, her head hurt terribly as though she'd hit her head on something. She couldn't remember what had happened, the last thing she recalled was a hand brushing against her forehead and a voice; yes a voice saying something, but she couldn't remember what. Before that they'd been with those two Gastly... Her eyes snapped open, only to find that she could barely see. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness she was able to make out her surroundings. She was in a tree hollow, a nest like she'd lived in when she was very young, and was by herself. Outside there was no light, it was pitch black. The dark thunder clouds covered the stars and the moon, and there was no artificial light at all. She didn't know where Riley was, or where she was for that matter, she just know she had to find out what was going on.

As she sat up in the darkness, she flexed her wings, both of which were badly cramped from the position she'd been in. As the feeling returned to them, they began to give off their normal faint glow. She stood up and walked up to the edge of the hollow, peering out to see what she could see. Era found that she was in a smaller tree, not too terribly high off the ground. There were enough branches for her to easily get down, so obviously she wasn't being kept prisoner or something of the sort, but it was still strange. There was no sign of anything else anywhere, but when she listened carefully she could here softly murmuring voices being carried on the wind from somewhere. They were too faint to be heard from where she was, so the Pikachu decided to head out and discover what the source might be.

Era gently flapped her wings, hovering just above the bottom of the hollow and flying out and down to the ground where she lit once more. In any other case she would have stayed in the air, but she wasn't too keen on flying through lightning again so soon after what had happened with Ivan. The nighttime that had seemed oppressive before didn't seem so bad once she was outside, and Era found as she wandered about, that there was more to this place than it had seemed. She was in a small forested area with trees all around that blocked out most of what little light there was, contributing to the blackness that was around. As she made her way forward though, Era discovered that there was a light after all, and the further she went the brighter it got. Eagerly she made her way towards it, curious to see what it was, and at last she made her way out to the edge of the forested area, where a stunning sight met her eyes.

Before her lay a lake, beautiful in all aspects. Although the landscape was still gray and dreary, the color seemed more cheerful in this place, and more welcoming. The lake was vast and clear, and one could see all the way to the bottom if they only looked. As Era peered down into the water, she looked past her reflection to see the rocks and sand that lined the bottom of the lake. The light seemed to emanate from within the lake itself, and it was very peaceful. The peace was short lived however, as the lake's surface was struck by a bolt of lightning so large that Era was forced to close her eyes for fear of being blinded. When it hit the water the effect was similar to the shattering of a mirror, the water cascaded into ripples that broke its stillness and the light refracted, bouncing about the area. Then, just as suddenly as the effect had begun, it stopped, and the water was still once more, unnaturally so. It was a mystery to the Pikachu how that could have happened, but clearly this was what was upsetting the Water Types so much.

Era's ears pricked up suddenly as she realized that the voices were coming into focus now and listened closely, unmoving. ”I just don't understand why it isn't working, it seemed to be going so well before,” a voice said. The Pikachu's eyes widened with surprise as she listened; there was something oddly familiar about the voice. It was as though she'd heard it before although she didn't know it at all. ”It wasn't supposed to take this long...”

”Don't worry, you can do it!” said another voice, this one Era recognized as one of the two Gastly from before.

”You'll get it to work, if anyone can do it you can!” chimed in the voice of the other Gastly.

Era peered across the lake, looking for any sign of the two Gastly and the mysterious voice, but she didn't know where they could be. Despite the light it was hard to tell just what was on the other side though, so she decided she'd just have to circle around. As another lightning bolt struck the water's surface, the Pikachu began to walk around to the other side, her eyes gleaming with a mixture of nerves and anticipation; she didn't know what she'd find, but she was ready for just about anything.

As she rounded the bend, Era spotted the figures standing by the edge of the lake in the distance. Two of them were hazy and undefined which she took to be the Gastly, but there was another one there who looked strikingly familiar. The closer she got, the stranger it was, there was a Pikachu standing between the two Ghastly and he looked so much like someone she knew... You bear a striking resemblance without the wings though... Era did a double take as she realized that was what it was. He looked so familiar because he was her. Even his voice, the reason why it had sounded so familiar was because it was just like her own, except with a male instead of a female tone to it. As she got closer, the other Pikachu turned and looked her way, smiling as he saw her, ”Oh hello!” he said, his voice rather cheerful, ”You're awake already!”

Era was taken aback by how friendly he seemed. This was the same Pikachu from the Bounty notice, right? There weren't more Pikachu around this place? No, there couldn't be, no Pikachu lived around here, so this had to be him, but it didn't make sense. Every outlaw that she'd met before had been hostile and unfriendly, but here was this Pikachu acting as though he was meeting an old friend. Era didn't know what to do; she had to deal with him, but he didn't seem like an outlaw...

”Why so quiet?” one of the Gastly said, ”Are you afraid of us?” Its tone wasn't teasing but concerned, as though it thought it had done something wrong, ”We didn't mean to scare you.”

The other Gastly nodded vigorously, ”Yeah, we're not scary, we promise!” Bobbing up and down in the air it formed a hand to gesture to itself and the other Gastly. ”I'm Indio, and she's Ceria!” he said with a smile, ”We're sorry we had to bring you here like that.”

”It was my fault I'm afraid, sorry about that,” the Pikachu said, stepping up to her and extending a paw to Era, ”My name's Eon, it's a pleasure to meet you.”

Era took his paw uncertainly, shaking it with a nod to him, still unsure what to think of the situation. ”My name's Era, it's a pleasure to meet you too,” she said, her voice holding a slight hint of surprise.

Eon blinked his eyes in astonishment, before laughing a bit cheerfully, ”Wow, when they told me you were just like me they weren't kidding!” The male Pikachu smiled easily, his eyes filled with about as much astonishment as Era's own, ”Even our voices sound the same!” Era found herself smiling a little as well, her expression lightening as he laughed. ”It's like we could be twins almost!” he said brightly, ”I guess they do say we all have our doppelgangers.”

Era nodded in agreement, ”I almost didn't believe it when I was walking up here, but you're definitely here,” she said, ”It's like looking in a mirror...well without the wings of course.”

The other Pikachu nodded, looking over her wings appreciatively, ”Yes those wings are really something,” he said admiringly, ”How on earth did you get them?”

Era laughed, ”It's a long story,” she told him, ”Let's just say it involved the scariest haunted house you'll ever have the pleasure not to go in, and a carnival that grants wishes.”

Eon grinned, ”Sounds like quite the adventure,” he said with a wink. ”I don't have any stories like that to tell, I'm just your average Pikachu.” His gaze turned pensive for a moment as he looked at the water silently, seeming to be anticipating something. The two Gastly turned to follow his gaze and so Era complied as well, looking in that direction. In a short time, lightning split the air firing downward from the sky and crashing into the center of the lake, and Era spotted Eon wince out of the corner of her eye, the male Pikachu's cheeks sparking brightly as they stood and watched. The lake returned to normal, just as it had before in an instant and Eon gritted his teeth, turning his gaze heavenward and sending a Thunderbolt up, high into the sky.

Era watched with puzzlement, not understanding what was going on, and as the other Pikachu's electricity began to die down she spoke. ”What was that Eon?” she asked quietly, meeting his eyes, and finding to her surprise that they were filled with pain, all of the prior joy gone.

He shook his head, trying but failing to appear cheerful again, ”It's...something that I need to do, something that I wanted your help for.” Eon took Era by the paw, expression pleading, ”It's why I had Indio and Ceria bring you here, they told me there was another Pikachu. I-Era, I need your help.” The female Pikachu was startled, but she didn't say anything, just listened. ”Here in this lake Era, there are stories about it,” Eon said, his eyes gaining a far off look, ”They say a Pokemon lives here, one only heard about in Legend, called Azelf. Azelf is the being of Willpower, and I need his help, but he won't come.” The male Pikachu looked desperate, his ears drooping sadly as he continued, ”I've tried almost everything to get his attention, but nothing's worked. It's like he's ignoring me... I had no choice but to start using my lightening to try and get his attention; even if he was mad I'd still be able to see him, but still he won't show his face! The worst part is that I know he's in there; how else could the lake return to normal so quickly?!” Era's heart went out to Eon as the male Pikachu's eyes brimmed with unshed tears, ”I only want him to see that I need his help! If he's the being of Willpower then isn't my Will strong enough for him?” The Pikachu fell silent, and the Gastly pair hovered around him with concern murmuring things back and forth to him.

Era stared out over the water as another lightening strike fell to its center, watching the stillness break and reform, and feeling Eon sending another Thunderbolt up into the clouds from behind her. She was torn, more torn than she had ever been on a Mission like this before. This Pikachu...Eon, he wasn't evil. She couldn't possibly arrest someone who had as pure of a motive as he seemed to, but she couldn't just leave her Bounty unfinished. There had to be some way, some other way for her to finish this that didn't hurt anyone, there just had to be. Her mind trailed off as she politely kept her eyes from the other Pikachu as he fought back his tears, and once he seemed to have recovered for the most part, she spoke up again. ”Eon...” she said, looking back at him, ”What exactly is it that you want me to do?”

The other Pikachu looked up, his eyes brightening as she met his gaze. He stood up, his Gastly companions moving off to the side as he did so. ”I'm trying to get Azelf's attention, I need him to notice me because I need his help,” Eon said, ”My lightning alone isn't working, but maybe if you helped too, then together we could get his attention.” He looked so hopeful, like this would fix everything that it tore at Era's heart. She couldn't say no but she couldn't say yes, all she could do was stand here and hope for something to happen. Eon took her paw in his looking into her eyes, ”Please Era...”

As they stood there, it was suddenly like they were frozen in time. The lightning struck down at the lake, brightening everything as it did so, and they stood, hand in hand, bathed in the electrical light. As it died down, Eon still was looking at her pleadingly, and he didn't send another lightning bolt to the sky, waiting instead for her response. Then, without any warning, the peace was shattered as from the edge of the pond a great rallying cry arose, and they both turned to see the Water Types from before swimming into the lake as quickly as they could. At the forefront of the group was Medinus, and on his back was Riley. The Eevee's gaze was dark, and instantly he locked onto Era and Eon. The Normal Type jumped into the air, and suddenly he was on the shore, hitting Eon back with a furious Quick Attack. ”What...?” the Pikachu said in confusion, his eyes turning to Era with a mixture of hurt and betrayal.

”No!” Era said, ”I didn't-!” It was too late for her to speak up in her own defense now though; the Eevee was already cutting into Eon with all his might, sending the Gastly spinning back and helpless. Desperately, the Pikachu grabbed her Teammate and pulled him back, sparks flying from her cheeks as she did so, sending a Thundershock through the Eevee. It hurt, it was unbearably painful to attack her friend to help Eon, but she didn't have a choice if she wanted him alive. ”Go!” Era shouted to Eon as he stayed where he was, paralyzed with shock, as the Water Type grew ever closer, ”Get out of here before it's too late!”

The male Pikachu seemed to be able to comprehend her words only now as he numbly nodded and scrambled to his paws, but by then it was too late. ”Now!” Medinus shouted, and suddenly a horrendous wave of sound blasted over all of them, sending the five on shore into a state of immense pain as the collective Supersonic jarred against their minds and left them completely powerless. From the water Medinus gestured to a pair of Lumineon who climbed up onto the land, using their fins as feet. They shuffled over to the Pikachu and took him between them, carrying the helpless Eon back to the water. Medinus looked at Era with a smirk, ”I guess you were of some use after all Pikachu, who'd have thought?” With a cackling laugh, the Seaking turned and signaled for the group to head out, which they did, and the Supersonic didn't fully cease until they were out of sight.

The four remaining on the shore were left to writhe in pain for some several moments more from the after effects of the Supersonic, until one by one they managed to recover. Indio and Ceria both appeared distraught, spinning around in circles in the air, ”Eon, where did you go!?” they called out, receiving nothing but echoes for answers. The pair looked about to cry, afraid of what might be happening to the Pikachu.

Era looked up at them with concern, but soon her eyes turned back to Riley, who was getting to his paws, a very confused expression on his face. ”Era?” he said with confusion, ”Era, where are we? What's going on?” The Eevee was back to his normal mind yet again or so it seemed; it must have been the Supersonic that had forced his mind to thinking the right way again. Unlike before though, Riley didn't seem to know that he'd been acting strange before, he just seemed as though he was confused and had no memory of it.

The Pikachu felt tears sting her eyes again; fate was too cruel. To get Riley back just as she let Eon down was a terrible trick. All the same, she took a deep breath, trying to collect herself, ”We're-We're on a mission Riley,” she said at last, ”We have to save a Pikachu.”

The pair of Gastly heard those words and floated downward toward Era, ”You really mean it?” Indio said, eyes wide, ”You'll help us save Eon?”

Era smiled slightly, ”I do,” she said, ”Riley and I will do our best to make sure we get him back safely.” It was unprecedented, trying to save the criminal that you had to stop, but that was exactly what Era intended to do. The Pikachu gestured to the two Gastly to come down beside her and Riley, ”So here's what we have to do, those Water Types are moving quickly and taking him who knows where. We have to catch up as quickly as possible and make a scene to distract them. I'll get Eon and you three can create the distraction. I can fly away with him quickly, and then you three can catch up, alright?” The others nodded in agreement, and Era smiled again, maybe, just maybe, they could pull this off.

”Hurry, let's hurry!” Ceria said, spinning about quickly, ”Up Eevee, get up!” She and Indio formulated their Gastly hands once again, and Riley climbed up, lookng rather bemused at the idea of riding on a pair of Ghosts. They nodded to Era and began to rise upward, and the Pikachu flapped her wings quickly, taking to the air as well. The odd little group began heading up and away through the sky, searching out the Water Types from below.

It didn't take too long to find where they were, the group had gathered in a small bay surrounded by a ring of tall rocks at another stray stream from the Delta. They were gathered in a circle and Medinus was at the center with Eon on his back. Although she didn't mention it, Era got a sense of impending doom as she stared down at them all; it didn't seem as though they were planning anything good down there. ”They're below us!” she called over to Indio, Ceria, and Riley, ”We should land on those rocks to see what they're doing before we head in.” The others gave their consent, and dove down through the air to light down upon the top of one of the boulders, unseen by the Water Types who were totally focused upon Medinus.

”We are gathered here today on a momentous occasion!” the Seaking's voice boomed out, and Era peered down closely to spot Eon on his back. The Pikachu didn't look good, he was stiff and unmoving, and she found when she looked closely that he was covered by a layer of ice. ”This is the day that we will at last be rid of this menace. From the day that he arrived he's been sending electricity through out water and making us live with shocks that became constantly worse the longer he stayed! Not only that, but we also were forced out of our home in the lake for fear of being incinerated by his lightning. Well I say no more! Let us send this vile Pokemon down to the depths where it belongs!”

The group hesitated at Medinus' speech, they were in full support of it at first, but the further on it went, the more they grew hesitant. They wanted him punished, that was certain, but death seemed a bit extreme. Era watched closely, holding her breath as she watched, they couldn't let him get away with this, could they? As if in response to her silent pleas, a familiar face came forward, Mandria appeared nervous but she swam forward to the front of the group. ”Medinus, don't you think killing is too extreme?” she asked him, ”He didn't kill any of us, and now he won't do any harm, we can just send him away.”

There were murmurs of agreement from the group and Medinus looked back and forth from one to the next of the group. The Seaking appeared to be filled with mounting rage as he was ganged up against by all of the others and Era got ready, putting her paw in the air to signal that the others should get ready. ”You don't think this Pikachu should pay for what he's done?!” the Seaking shouted, ”We'll see about that!”

Era dropped her arm, taking off at the same second that the Seaking tilted his back, sending Eon into the watery abyss. The other three swooped down from the sky, creating a panic as Era cut down through the air, further and further until she touched the water and broke through that as well, starting to swim. Eon was sinking fast, too fast, but that didn't stop Era; she dove downward as fast as she could, catching up with the ice-encased Pikachu and wrapping her paws around it, struggling against the pull of gravity with all her might to try and get it to move up. Within the ice, the frozen Eon's eyes were wide and staring, as if to try and convince Era to stop. The Pikachu ignored every warning, straining, wings and all, to move it upward to no avail. Her lungs began to grow pained and she knew she didn't have much time left, but she had to save Eon, she had to!

Just as it seemed all hope was lost Era found the weight lessened as another body pressed next to her. There were little Facet and Entia, swimming upward with all their might and smiling at Era. Revitalized by their help, the Pikachu began swimming upward with renewed vigor, ignoring the screaming of her lungs for air. They began to push Eon upward slowly at first, but then quickly, Era's expression was determined, but her body was failing her without any oxygen. Suddenly she felt a tap on the shoulder to find Mandria beside her, the Lumineon smiled before pushing her out from under Eon. Era didn't know what to think but her body knew how to react: her wings pressed down through the water as did her arms and legs, sending the Pikachu bursting up out of the water and into the air.

Era gasped for air, her lungs taking several much needed breaths as she fell back down, only to be caught by Ceria. ”Gotcha!” the Gastly giggled, hovering just above the water, disregarding the Pikachu's coughing and gasping. ”Era! Era! We did it!” she said. Sure enough, as Era looked around, still forcing the air into her lungs she found that Ceria was right. Riley was on top of Medinus, pinning the wriggling Seaking still on the ground by the edge of the water and Indio was preoccupying the others by creating general chaos flying around their heads. And there beside them Mandria and her children surfaced, Eon supported between the three of them and smiles on their faces. Era smiled back through her gasping breaths, pleased to see how well this had gone, that left only one thing... As she watched, the inside of the ice covering Eon began to glow brightly from the electricity that flew within it. In a few moments it broke through and suddenly the whole cover shattered and Eon burst out shaking himself vigorously to get all of the ice shards off of himself, bringing a look of joy to Era's face; everything was alright now.

”Take me over to the shore will you Ceria?” Era asked the Gastly, to which she nodded and complied.

As Era touched down on the ground Riley looked up, a bright smile that she hadn't seen in far too long on his face, ”Era you're alright!” the Eevee said, before he was forced to revert his eyes to the squirming Seaking beneath him. ”Hey, no. You're not going anywhere,” he said, struggling to keep the Seaking pressed down to the ground.

Medinus looked about to through a fit as he squirmed there, his eyes rolling in his head. ”No! No! You can't do this!” he shrieked, ”The Pikachu needs to pay for what he's done! A life for a life!”

There was a collective gasp from the group, and doubtful glances were once again shared amongst those present. The Water Types were again uncertain which side was right, and Indio and Ceria both huddled closely around Eon to make certain nothing could happen to the Pikachu. Eon himself looked completely baffled and he met Era's eyes as she looked back as if to say I don't know what he's talking about, I never killed anyone! Era looked back at Medinus who looked back up at her reproachfully, when Mandria came forward, her eyes filled with concern. ”Medinus, if this is about your daughter...”

The Seaking flailed about again, ”That's exactly what this is about!” he cried, ”My daughter, my poor Iriden...she never had a chance when he came around!”

Mandria's frown grew, and the group's expressions mirrored the Lumineon's, ”Medinus, Iriden died from illness long before this Pikachu came here,” she said, ”No one could have stopped it from happening, it was just the way things had to be... Iriden never would have wanted you to kill someone for her, least of all someone who wasn't responsible for her death.”

Medinus thrashed some more, a wild look in his eyes, ”No, no it was him! He did it!” It was all Riley could do to stay on top of the Seaking, let alone leave him in one place. Era looked sadly at Mandria who hung her head, mouthing the words, 'Take care of him please.' Era nodded in understanding, leaning over the Seaking and touching a paw to him. Riley anticipated what she was doing, and jumped off, just as a few sparks of electricity from Era's Static jumped onto the large fish and locked his motions where he lay.

There was an oppressive silence that hung over the group now that Medinus was silenced, which was at last broken again by Mandria. ”I'm sorry you had to go through all that,” she said to Eon before turning back to Era and Riley, ”Thank you Rescue Team, I'm sorry for all the trouble we put you through.” Looking doubtfully at the paralyzed Seaking she added, ”Would it be too much trouble for you to take him back with you? He needs help that I don't know how to give.”

Era looked hesitantly at the large Seaking but then smiled slightly, ”Of course we can,” she replied, ”We'll make sure he's given the help he needs as best we can.” The Pikachu didn't actually know if they were able to do that, but she'd talk to someone about it when they got back. At the very least they could put him somewhere that he wouldn't hurt anyone else.

”Thank you for your help,” Mandria said, ”We'll be going then.” With a wave of her fin the Lumineon gathered the Water Types to her and they headed off, Mandria leading the way. It made Era wonder if the Lumineon hadn't held some sort of higher rank in that group all along, and they had just never known. With a half-hearted smile Era waved after the receding group before sitting down on the ground with a sigh. Arceus she was tired.

As she sat the Gastly pair came over, Eon riding between them. The male Pikachu jumped to the ground beside her and held a paw out to Era, a slight smile on his face. ”Thanks for helping me out back there,” he said to her, ”I don't know what would have happened without you and your friend.”

Era took his paw and stood, ”It was nothing,” she said modestly, ”Just what I would do for a friend.”

Riley's eyes widened with surprise heading over, ”Era he looks just like you!” the startled Eevee said, ”He even sounds like you!”

The two Pikachu laughed and the Gastly joined in at the shock in Riley's voice, ”Riley, this is Eon,” Era said, ”And Eon, this is Riley.”

”Pleased to meet you,” Eon said cheerfully to the Eevee.

”And you to-” Riley began before his voice trailed off to a yelp and he pressed his front paws to his head, falling to the ground. He whimpered and his body began to spasm violently as his mind seemed to threaten to tear into pieces. The Eevee squeezed his eyes shut, the world spinning around him as his mind began to lock down once again, imprisoning Riley and bringing the creature from before back again. When he finally ceased his convulsions the Eevee stood, his eyes dark and uncaring, just as if nothing had happened, like before.

Eon and the Gastly pair watched the episode horrorstruck, while Era merely put a paw on Riley's back, hating herself for being unable to stop it. That Riley of all people would have to experience something like this wasn't fair, it just wasn't right. The Pikachu's ears drooped sorrowfully as Riley stood again, fully aware that the Eevee was once again out of his right mind. ”Oh Riley, what can I do with you...?” she said softly, hugging the Eevee close as he looked at her, all emotions drained as if he never had them at all.

Eon looked at her sympathetically, ”Is he...normally like this?” he asked tentatively.

”No, he's never like this,” Era said wearily, ”Something's wrong with him but I don't know what...”

The male Pikachu nodded with understanding and placed a gentle paw on the other Pikachu's back. ”I'm sorry.” The pair remained like that for a bit, unmoving until Eon at last broke the silence once more. ”Era, do you think we could try to contact Azelf now?” he asked her, ”I know its not a good time but..please, I need to see him.”

Era looked up at Eon sadly, ”I...can't.” He looked at her with dismay, taken aback by her refusal. ”I wish I could help you Eon, more than you know, but...you have to stop trying to talk to Azelf. If he hasn't listened by now he won't listen, and it's my job to tell you to stop.” She pulled out the notice that they'd taken from the Bounty List and handed it over to the other Pikachu.

Eon read it over, eyes widening as he read and a look of horror on his face. ”No! I'm not a criminal!” he cried, dropping the paper as if it had burnt his paw, ”Era, you have to believe me. I wasn't trying to do any harm, I just need to...I need to see Azelf!”

The torn frustration on his face was heart-wrenching, but Era didn't know what else to do. Indio and Ceria took one look at one another and floated off, dragging Riley with them as they did so. Although they weren't serious with many things, the pair seemed to know that the two Pikachu needed to be alone. ”Eon why?” Era said at last, ”You tell me you have to see Azelf, but you've never explained why. Legendaries don't just show themselves to...well hardly anyone.”

Eon looked at her with slight disbelief. ”I thought it would be obvious to anyone else, especially someone like you,” he said, ”Haven't you ever wondered about them?” He spun Era around so that they were both looking at the two Gastly, now circling around low to the ground by Riley who simple lay there disinterested.

Era looked on with puzzlement, ”Well they're Gastly who seem oddly attached to you if that what you m-”

”No, not that!” Eon said, sounding impatient, ”Can you really not see it?” The male Pikachu took Era by the paw and squeezed it tightly in his own. ”Look at them, really look at them.” Era turned her gaze back to the Gastly, his paw still in her own and then she saw what he'd been trying to say all along. Instead of two Ghastly there she saw two little ghostly Pichu, playing a game of tag. When they realized that Eon and Era were looking at them, the pair stopped and waved, their eyes shining brightly as they smiled. Era felt her heart fall, and her eyes yet again threatened to brim with tears. It all made sense now. ”You see it now, don't you,” Eon whispered in defeat, ”Why I've been trying to get Azelf to help me for all this time.”

Era looked back, her eyes too bright with the sadness that longed to pour from them, ”Eon...” she said sadly, ears drooping, ”Azelf won't talk to you because he knows what you want. No one can bring back the dead, not even Legendaries.” Only Arceus could truly bring back the dead, and those who were brought back were doomed to seem out of place for the rest of their second life.

Eon's eyes brimmed with tears, and as his began to fall, so did Era's. ”I didn't want to believe that...” he murmured as she came closer and hugged the other Pikachu. ”With all my heart I didn't want to believe that...” As they stood there crying the clouds began to disperse, and the slightest glimpse of sunlight was visible through them. Riley and the pair of Gastly made their way back when they saw what was going on, but when Indio and Ceria opened their mouths to speak, Era shook her head through her tears. All of them gathered around her and Medinus still paralyzed to the side, Era silently put a paw into her bag and pulled out the Explorer Badge. She held it up, and it caught the sunlight, sending out a beam of warm light that enveloped the six Pokemon, taking them back to the Guild.

"Thank you again." The first words came out of Eon's mouth the second the all appeared in the guild.
He watched as a cluster of Chansey scurried out and carted off the Lumineon that was slowly breaking free of his paralysis and continuing his stream of curses.
Before the female Pikachu could voice a protest he shook his head, "Not for dealing with Medinus. I could have lived with his words regardless." He turned slowly to the two Gastly now dancing about in circles behind them, blissfully unaware of their fate.
"...they do seem okay this way. I suppose..." He spoke as though he didn't want to accept it, but had decided to anyways if only because it was meant to be.
"You need not fret too much over them, dear." A voice exclaimed from behind the Pikachu duo and lone Eevee. Before them a Mismagius tilted her hat in a greeting. "I do not mean to pry, but I noticed you all return here a moment ago and I saw those two...they are 'new' Ghost Type aren't they?"
Eon seemed hesitant for a moment before giving a brief nod.
The Mismagius continued, "I remember the feeling. I use to be a Volbeat, you know. Enjoying my life until it ended so suddenly I didn't even notice. Once the body dies the spirit continues, those Pichu seemed to still be in that stage of unknowing. I would like to...well, I would help you'd allow me to help them understand."
The male Pikachu stiffened. Give up Indio and Ceria to this stranger? Like that? He didn't like the idea, but she had a kind face and...they did need someone who understood their plight.
With an almost pained expression he nodded and agreed to hand them over.
Excusing himself from Era he went to explain to the two Ghost what had just happened, they seemed confused at first...and then unhappy.
After promising to visit nonstop the Pikachu finally managed to coax them to the Mismagius, who finally introduced herself as Cleo, before she swept them away through the floor and out of sight.
Eon didn't speak immediately, instead he kept his head down for a few long moments before turning to Era with a sad smile.
"Looks like...I need a place to stay. Would you mind?"

Whether she agreed to or not, the team would return to their room for the night and awaken to find a box from Mandria!
It held 3000 PD, a Water Pulse TM, an Ominous Wind TM and a single blue egg. [Water type of your choice.]

Era smiled through her tears at Eon's thanks, trying to make herself stop crying but to no avail. Some Chansey arrived quickly to take care of Medinus, to which she offered a soft 'thank you' before the Mismagius came over to them. Era watched as the Ghost and Eon held their brief exchange, and then as he went over to talk to his siblings. The female Pikachu felt her heart wrench in pain as she saw the looks on Indio and Ceria's faces as they listened to their brother who now had the sad task of explaining reality to them. She didn't need to hold Eon's paw to see them for what they were anymore, but that made it hurt even more. The pain that Era felt was as intense as that which surely plagued Eon as he spoke; although she'd just met them, Era felt that she knew these three Pokemon as well as if she'd lived with them her entire life, and she didn't know why. It hurt to see their faces fall, to see them as they recognized their fate, and Era wished she were there with Eon, that there was some way to ease the pain.

The female Pikachu watched as Eon finished explaining, heart breaking as she saw the tears fall from the two Pichu's...Gastly's eyes. She watched as their brother patiently let them cry to him and dried their tears, his own eyes gleaming with them all the while, and then as he handed them over to the Mismagius. Cleo, as the Mismagius introduced herself, took the two little Pokemon with a gentle and kindly smile, and just for an instant, Era caught a glimpse of a motherly looking Volbeat with her arms around two small, frightened Pichu as they said their last farewells. Then, just like that the trio were gone, vanished through the floor as if they were never there. Heart aching, Era came up to stand by Eon. ”You did the right thing,” she said to him, placing a paw on his shoulder, ”I'm sure Cleo will take good care of them.” Even as she said it, her voice cracked from the regret that filled it, but she still stayed there by him, waiting.

When Eon at last looked up and asked his question, Era had a response ready even as he asked it. ”Of course you can stay,” she said to him, taking his paws in hers, ”We would love to have you.” She felt oddly relieved that he'd asked to stay and hadn't decided to leave. She wanted him to stay with them, and the Pikachu needed them just as much as Era knew that the Team, or at very least she, needed Eon.

Eon met her eyes gratefully, ”Thank you Era,” he said to her, his smile growing slightly less sad.

Riley, who had been standing off to the side this entire time, now came forward. In his current state the Eevee wasn't able to comprehend or care about what had gone on with the others in the past minutes, but he was finished with this Bounty and ready to head back. ”Let's be going,” he said bluntly to Era, hardly paying mind to Eon at all. With that, the Eevee set off down the hall toward the West Wing and their Team Room.

Era smiled apologetically at Eon for Riley's behavior, but quickly recovered. She released one of the male Pikachu's paws but still held the other one tightly, leading him down the hall and back home.

The next day, after all three had partaken of a well-deserved rest, a parcel arrived at the door. Era was first to notice it and quickly retrieved it, smiling as she read a note on top of the package. She carried it back to where Eon sat, a smile on her face. ”It's from Mandria!” she said, ”The Lumineon who helped us save you.” With careful paws she gently unwrapped the gift, smiling in delight at what she found inside. A Water Pulse TM and an Ominous Wind TM were carefully wrapped up inside next to a sack of PD, but the biggest surprise of all was the egg that lay inside. It was a vivid blue color and it seemed to shimmer almost like the water, which Era found very charming.

Eon looked over the items from the bag curiously, his eyes bright with intrigue. ”That's very nice of them,” he said, examining one of the TM's, ”But why so much? Was it just for getting rid of me?”

As he said that his ears drooped and his gaze grew saddened, and Era hastened to correct his thinking. ”Of course not!” she said, ”We helped them by taking care of Medinus, remember?” Despite her valid point, Eon still looked uncertain, and Era's gaze softened as she put a gentle paw on his shoulder, causing the male Pikachu to look up. ”And they helped us too,” she said, ”By helping me meet you.”

Eon looked startled for a moment and then he smiled as well, ”Then it must go both ways,” he replied, ”Because they helped me too, by letting me meet you.”
