thats so cool though... In my opinion, English is, in a way, the b*****d child of all of the original, "mother" languages. They just sort of smacked some languages together and half-assedly called it english. It makes no sense, and there are no rules...its horrible. it's just my opinion, i know the process of evolution that a language has to go through is huge, but in the end, what i see is this half baked dialect thats being taught to people EVERYWHERE. why not French? Spanish? Japanese? Chinese? all are used SO frequently throughout the world..

I don't totally agree with that.

English does have rules, or else it wouldn't have a grammar. And it's not like some people sat down and decided to create this language by mixing a bunch of paints together to get this strange brown color. English evolved out of both historical and social circumstances of different eras. It had roots established within the Germanic branch of languages, but later in time, English borrowed a ton of words from French, which changed the dynamic of the language.

I do take pride in my first language, as it is the only language where I will ever fully be able to express myself in abstract and subtle ways. I can become "fluent" in another language, but it will never be the same.

And also, I don't agree with any sort of mass teaching of English. But I don't think that means we should choose a "better" language to mass teach to everyone. Let each country preserve their native languages.

English, in most cases, isn't really replacing a country's native language, although perhaps it has in some cases. It's mostly being taught as a second language for means of international relations, business, etc. The same as how some schools in the US are starting to do bilingual programs in English and Spanish, in order to teach kids both.

However, I do think that English is having a huge impact on such countries, and not necessarily for the better.

It's completely avoidable. Maybe I'll just permanently stop quoting posts.
