Vorastrix sat in the drivers seat of the wagon and, with a quick HYAH, began to follow the rest of the group closely behind. He kept his attention peeled, just to be wary. The enemy could be anywhere at any time, and he was going to make sure this boy would make it to his destination in one piece, even if Vorastrix himself had to die to ensure it....

First leg of the journeyThere was little in the way of worrying for a good portion of the journey. There were occasional creatures that passed that would be good to hunt for food. One night when they had stopped to let the horses and the young boy rest, Adonneniel had gone off a little ways from the group, a few of the golden markings on her body giving off a very faint golden glow. After a short while, she returned, the glowing gone and she knelt down next to Estel as he slept, keeping a watchful eye out over the boy.

Jolan kept much to himself during the journey, observing his duty with distinction. He was certain the journey would be relatively safe, but Vorastrix had shown a lack of faith in this assessment in his countenance. If a well trained wizard was worried, Jolan had cause to worry a bit himself. He had to marvel at the young boy's predicament. He had a certain familiarity about him, much like Isuldur did when he was young. Elrond was no fool when it came to matters, one way or another this boy was indeed important, and Jolan was keen on taking his duty seriously, regardless of how simple and short it would be.
" Not much farther my friends. Let us pray the rest of this journey will be just as quiet."

Vorastrix had his wagon parked and his horses munching on some grass as he rested. He wasn't sleeping by any means, merely taking a short rest. Vorastrix nodded to Jolan. "One can only hope, my friend. We have come this far though without any interruptions. I believe the last leg of this journey will be mostly uneventful as well." He said, trying to reassure everyone. He watched the elf girl as she went out to the woods and then returned shortly thereafter without the glowing. He raised an eyebrow, but decided to mind his own business. If it came into conversation later, he would ask about it.

"We have been fortunate," she whispered. "I do believe that if we reach the Gap of Rohan within the next few days, we shall reach Edoras soon enough. But we are in Dunland... we need to keep our guard up." The golden runes that were exposed on her neck and part of her chest began to glow extremely faintly again. "The people of this land are not exactly friendly..."
At her knees, Estel turned in his sleep.

" Let them address their problems to me. Should diplomacy fail I have no qualms about quelling their anger."
Jolan took full advantage of his many keen senses, scanning for any threats hidden or otherwise. Something told him that this journey wasn't going to be so simple from here on.

Vorastrix smiled, "Agreed." He said, addressing Jolan, "And I've some surprises in store for them as well. They do not call me Hidden Blade for nothing." He said with a small amount of glee in his voice. He had to admit, he always did enjoy a good fight once and again. He returned to the present from his thoughts and looked to the others. "Perhaps you two should get some rest for the evening. Don't worry, I'll take watch."

The elf smiled softly. "I thank you for your offer, Vorastrix. If you watch for danger, I will watch over this one..." she gently rubbed Estel's back as the boy slept. "He is not leaving my sight until we reach Edoras." She shifted a little bit, her eyes wide and alert.
There was a faint rustling in the nearby shrubbery. Adonneniel immediately took a hold of one of her swords, her eyes locking onto the location of the rustling.

Jolan kept his calm, not wanting to give any indication he was hyper aware of the rustling. It was better to let the enemy fall into a sense of false security then to announce to them that they have failed to ambush.
" What has caught your attention so Adonneniel?"
Jolan took a few quick whiffs of the air, trying to pick up on any distinct scents.

Vorastrix's eyes flashed a deep black for a moment as he heard the sound. He kept his wits about him, listening intently for any other sound around them, his reflexes at the ready to bring his blades out just in case of a battle. He turned to the female and looked at her with a questioning look. "Indeed, did you hear something?" He asked her with an innocent tone in his voice, just to try and lay the trap that much more. His eyes scanned the surroundings, looking to pick up any unusual shadows or shapes in the brush, though whatever he saw, he further added to the ruse with, "I don't see or hear anything... Perhaps it was merely your mind playing tricks on you?"

What Jolan smells in the air was akin to rotted flesh, not so strong that whatever was causing the smell had also caused the rustle, but from the way the wind was carrying it, it was related.
Another, fainter, rustle came forth from the shrubbery near by. Some of the branches moved. A strange, hoarse voice began muttering barely audible nonsense from the source of the rustling.
Adonneniel slowly relaxed her grip on her blade, but kept a stronger embrace on the sleeping boy. "You are probably right. I suppose my weary mind is playing tricks on me..."
From the bushes came a low growl and the smell became stronger.
