I started a topic like this on another forum, but I'm also starting one here. To put it frankly, Victorian London is the main society people draw inspiration from when they work with steampunk because, as far as I know, most of the writers who made the "Science Romance" and "Voyage Royal" books we draw inspiration from are themselves Victorian English. This is quite natural, but even within the Empire, there were lots of influences from other parts of the world. What I'm interested in asking is, what other cultures and areas do you draw inspiration from when you do a work or an outfit?

I do a fair bit of English caps and such, but I also use french berets, Russian-style coat and hat combos, and a few interesting accessories like embroidered sashes or cowboy-style belt buckles. I also take interest in a wide variety of cultures, in particular safari-style and old maps and globes, when I design my room or set up a picture.

As a sky pirate, I tend to steam from various locations. Mostly I pick up on the cowpunks of Northern America and of course, mother England.

I prefer western style, due to conflicting of nature vs. the machine and natives and military....I prefer to think of my persona as a shaman of beast lore wagging war with the military and settlers!

So I guess its cowpunk then, not sure on the term X3

I am all for the industrial/Victorian England and the 19th century Sweden (which is where I am from) so trying to add the traditional Swedish/Scandinavian influences into it.

I try to copy 19th century German fashions. I'm part German & it's the country I identify with, so that's why. =]

I like mostly working class victorian britain. I like the idea of the industrial aspect but somehow my mind always goes back to victoriana. But then again I like victorian things anyway so that may be a factor.

The term is right.

I don't see nature and machines as having to be enemies, but I admit that those who use the machines aren't always interested in the needs of the natural. However, those same tools could be turned against those who try to use them.
