Ok I'm normaly nice to the freshmen and help them out but there's a handfull inparticular I've considered strangling...well a Freshman and Her Sophmore friend.
Our Band rankings go: Director and Band Parents, Drum major, Section leader(Rank leader if not present), Veterans(rank leaders of Section leader is Present), Freshmen who have a clue, Freshmen who don't/
this particular Freshman falls under the later, I myself am a Veteran of 4 years having started in 8th grade out of luck. She's in the mentality that because her friend is the Rank leader who technicaly does not out rank me as long as the section leader is around (and she normaly is) that she out ranks me and can tell me what to do. Including where I sit, what part I play and wether or not I should be playing louder or softer...I have 3 more years of expirience than her friend and 4 more than her I think I know what I'm doing. She annoyes me to no end and no one is doing anything to shut her up. I've had half a mind to tell her to shove her clarinet up her butt so far that she chokes but I bit my tounge since that isn't appropiate. I double so if I wanted to I could switch out of the section and be done with her and not have to sepak to her again for my remaining year though I love my clarinet.
What would you do?

well, i'm tenor section leader in my high school, even though my main is and always has been clarinet...dont ask, and this happens to me all the time, it gets annoying. What you need to do is take her to the side while all of her friends are in the room and talk to her about it (kindly) and tell her that if it escalates you're willing to go to the band director. Trust me, the embarresment of being talked to with all of her friends watching should work lol.

If talking to the girl directly isn't working, then you should talk to your band director, section leader, or drum major. Go to the one that would be the most understanding, and tell them about your problem. That freshman doesn't know her place, and people higher up on the totem pole might be able to knock her down a few pegs.

xXMarching PandaXx If talking to the girl directly isn't working, then you should talk to your band director, section leader, or drum major. Go to the one that would be the most understanding, and tell them about your problem. That freshman doesn't know her place, and people higher up on the totem pole might be able to knock her down a few pegs. or, you know, you could realize that no one is "better" than someone else simply because they're more "experienced" and more "influental". if someone isn't pulling their weight in the band, you should find out WHY they aren't, and then find out WHY they're even in band if they don't want to participate. once all that is figured out, help them find an alternative they will enjoy, or help them to feel more connected to the band..you know, instead of alienating them by making them feel like they're disliked by the band and that they should bring the band down, because the band brings them down...just a thought. P.S. even if you're "section leader", you lead by being a friend, not a dictator. you don't say "obey me, or there will be consequences" you say "hey, i've noticed you seem a little detached from the band, is there anything i'm doing that might make you feel separated from the section and the band?" or.."is there anything i can do that might make you feel more welcome in the band". notice: these are messages that imply that YOU are doing something wrong, not them. if they feel that you're accusing them, of course they won't like you.

I'm a senior now. And I was nice. But now I hate everyone in the band. They are immature, selfish, a-holes.

Some people, as we discovered this last year, just DONT learn. *is thankful I'm a freshman and a three year veteran allready as I started in seventh grade* and the one thing that really worked was just being mean. I know its pretty rude, but you will find it works sometimes just to argue with them till they break. =P
We also had to make the whole section run laps around the feild once too. Though it didnt work so well, as the hypocondriach of the section tripped and scrapped his leg bad, and the kid it was meant to punish walked. Everybody else ran to save their lives as our section leader was going to punish us if he caught us.

As a freshman with a clue, I must say, I would strangle her I would grab her instrument , and shove it down her throat. Anybody who thinks they outrank somebody via connection is just pathetic I myself feel no higher status quo than anybody else. And, Im assuming you're a senior , so who the hell does she think she is. I feel your pain, i get frustrated with anyone who doesnt take band seriously.
