Mal'rak wrinkled his nose at the smell wafting up from the soggy mass of junk underneath his feet. He groaned and tried to pick his way around the odds and ends that littered the back alley. Why had he agreed to meet in this part of town any way? Seriously..he needed to learn to be a mite more picky about the sorts of jobs he agreed in doing. He had to set some level of standard if he wanted to gain the level of employ that he so desired.

He sighed again, slightly shuddering when his foot sank into what appeared to be yellow stained cloth. Egad! This was the last straw! With a epithet that would have caused even a hardened warrior's ears to turn red, he pulled his foot out of the mass, and hurled himself down the remaining three feet to the back door of a seedy looking hotel and rapped on it sharply four times. He waited impatiently tapping his right foot, his arms crossed tightly over his chest; his brow narrowed and his lips drawn tightly into a scowl.

When nothing happened, Mal cursed and rapped on the back door four more times..and waited again. Several more moments passed before Mal heard someone inside lurch to their feet and stumble over to the door. The door swung open and a drunken steward stared out looking rather disgruntled at having been disturbed.
"Whadda want?" The steward slurred slouching against the door frame.

"Move aside lout," Mal'rak retorted, inwardly seething as he brushed past the fellow. "this is a place of business where patrons come for to conduct business. You might want to keep that in mind." Mal'rak added as he quickly swept further into the building.

Vas was not amused, not in the slightest. Even inside, the stench of the city was rather overpowering to his rather delicate senses. This was the last time he insisted on going to the lowest of the low to cover his tracks from his prey, no matter how effective it would be. Not even his quarry would stoop to such lows to avoid detection..

His lizard at least didn't seem to mind the smell, it had settled itself along the back of the tallest threadbare armchair in the tiny room, observing it's master through beady red eyes until it was distracted by the alluring scuttle of an insect or, dare he say it, a rat from one corner of the room or another.
The geomancer heaved another shudder and lifted his hand to his face to bury his nose in the thick wrappings over his hand.

He only hoped that the spy he had been told about was half as good as his contact had said.. He hadn't been told anything about him, his name or what to look for. He hoped for his contacts sake he was not attempting to scam him.. He would not get away with it if this was the case.. No indeed.. He also hoped that he would hurry up and arrive so they could get on with discussing what he desired and get away from this flea infested hole. Even the dirt looked dirtier than usual here.. And again with the stench..

Mal'rak came to a stop outside the second door on the top floor, the room his contact had told him where he was to meet his next employer. Gods..even up here it smelled bad. Mal had to cover his nose and mouth to keep the smell from overcoming him. He raised his left hand and knocked firmly, "tap, tap....tap." two sharp taps, a pause and another tap had been the aforementioned sign that Mal was to use to let the other know who he was.

Mal waited as patiently as he could, wishing that all this low down secrecy could have been done elsewhere. The slums was not a good place to do business. Too bad there weren't any high end businesses that would ensure one's anonymity and privacy. Perhaps he should look into backing someone to start such a business. Or he should just get a better contact to arrange meetings. Mal was seriously considering offing the contact that had the audacity to agree to such a place of meeting.

Vas's abnormally long ears inadvertently twitched at the sharp knocks that came from the door, turning quickly to fix his bright eyes on it, full of suspicion.. Oh right.. There had been a secret knock hadn't there.. Two knocks.. ANd two knocks..? He couldn't remember, but it was probably something like that regardless.

"Enter." He announced, thought somewhat muffled by the thick wrappings of his hand that his nose and mouth were currently buried against. He turned to face the door, resting his staff back against his shoulder. He'd wanted to lean against the wall as he had refused to seat himself, fearful of what he could catch from the furniture.. The walls were just as unappealing so he remained very much upright.

His lizard also snapped it's attention to the door as it opened, attention diverted from the large bug it had been eyeing, creeping along the skirting board.
"If you are who I believe you are, you had best hurry yourself in here so I can ask what I wish of you and we can depart from this mouldering flea-pit."

Mal'rak waited impatiently..straining his ears to hear some sort of invitation to come into the room. He heard a slightly muffled tone say something..Mal didn't really care what had been said, he wasn't going to wait out in the hall of one of the most disgusting inns he had ever been in. He swun the door open, gritting his teeth at the long annoying creak that came from the hinges. He glared at the door rather angrily, and was rather startled by the other's words.

With a sigh, Mal swung the door closed firmly shutting it behind him again wincing at the creak that emitted from the hinges. He about had half the mind to rip the offending door off the hinges and throw it down the stairs. Damned crappy hotel! No one should live in such a horrid place..not even the lowest of the low.

"I concur." Mal'rak spoke, pulling his cloak about himself and standing in the middle of the room, shooting an ugly glance around at the room.
"This is most foul, I will make sure to rid myself of my idiot contact for forcing us to meet in such a place, that I can assure you. Now..what business would you have me do for you sir?"
