*reposting after a deletion* Something is wrong with this thread
The point and shoots do tend to be delicate so treat it well. On the whole, Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Pentax, Olympus & Panasonic have become the big names because their cameras take great photos. So long as you have one of those you're going to have good results. There's always different features and abilities for each price point but brand to brand there isn't a big difference. Except Kodak - they pump out the crappiest cameras. They take alright photos but they will break within 6 months of purchase and they only have a 90 day warranty. Kodak = bad

Yay! I fixed this thread! Kokihi I like canon. My mom had a fugi and it broke within a month. Fuji's do tend to be a little fragile but nothing compared to Kodak's repair stats. I think Pentax's and Canons are the 2 least repair needing. If you want one that's practically impossible to break, Olympus has a waterproof/shockproof model that's guaranteed dropable from 5 feet! We had a guy come into my old camera store who had dropped his pack while rockclimbing ooh 100 yards or so up - his camera was inside and it still worked fine!

I accidently droped my canon rebel from a table because the neck strap was stuck on something and I nearly cried. ...till I found out that it was ok.

the focusing is fine actually, which is amazing. It landed on one of the back corners of the camera body (under the buttons, not the LCD screen thank you god) and I have a low table, so it wasn't damaged ^_^
