James walked into the Astronomy classroom and took his seat. He had done well in his first Astronomy class, making all of the planets line up correctly and revolve around the sun on his first try. He hoped that this lesson would go just as smoothly for him. He went up to the top of the tower where his classmates were setting up their telescopes and set up his as well. He then looked through his telescope and attempted to locate the planets, and the north star. The sun, he reasoned, couldn't really be seen at night, so he would have to figure out where it was based on his charts.

James located the planets and sun right away, but he was still having trouble locating the north star. He adjusted his telescope and tried again.

James still couldn't figure out where the north star was, so he decided to try one more time before he used the charts to guess where it was.

Finally, James found the north star through his telescope. Next he had to plot them in the correct positions. This would be the difficult part because he wouldn't be able to try more than once to plot them. He had to turn the plot in for a grade and he wouldn't know whether or not he got the plots right until he got the paper back. He was not very confident in his work, but then, he had never been more than average in school.
