Name: Samuel Stockton Ryan
Known as: Sam, Mr. Ryan
Age: 29
Gender: Male.
Hair color: Black.
Hair style: Ear length, wavy.
Eye color: Bright blue.
Build: 5'10", blocky and muscular.
Distinguishing marks and features: When Sam casts certain spells or when he enters deep meditation, runes on his skin glow a bright blue that matches his eyes. When he's not using magic, the markings look a lot like scars.
Clothing style/preference: In the summer, Sam dresses in polos, t-shirts, jeans, sneakers and other perfectly normal things. In the winter, he adds sweaters, scarves and long coats to his wardrobe. He is never without Aara's wedding ring which he wears in addition to his own, on the pinky of his left hand.
General attitude/personality: Sam is a quiet, strong man. He is rarely truly angry, but when he is it's still not overt, since he's more likely to internalize his problems and worry about them on his own. When he does give in to his anger, it tends to manifest as an uncontrolled blind rage, and is quite frightening to behold. Thankfully, his life at present isn't as stressful as it once was. He could probably be considered overworked, but that feeling pales in comparison to the guilt he has felt in the past, most of which he has seemed to have put aside. Sam always looks a bit rough, but that's just because he was very unexpectedly given the responsibility of caring for two children and a ghost wife in the past year. He is quite a good cook and takes pleasure in keeping things tidy.
Backstory: Sam left home at 15, not out of any sort of rebellious need, but because a traveling mage told him he would be a fool to waste his magical talent. He became the strange woman's apprentice and learned much over the next three years. Before leaving home, he had lived a perfectly normal childhood in a rural Aekea suburb with his parents, older sister Moira, and their dog Scooter.
Over time, Sam found that his teacher had spoken the truth. He took to spells and incantations like a crackhead to crack, surpassing his parents' smaller magical abilities to become a powerful spellcaster. At eighteen, he enrolled in a regular college, earning a bachelor's degree in literature but never ceasing his magical studies. He met his future wife Aara a few weeks after he graduated and they were married two months later.
Sam and Aara were blissfully happy until just over a year ago when Aara began complaining of shortness of breath and general lethargy. She was diagnosed with an aggressive lung cancer and, at the age of 30, was given less than a year to live. Three months later, she passed away, but instead of just dying like a normal person, Aara became a very strange sort of ghost, able to be seen and conversed with by average people, even those that do not possess any sort of ability to see spirits. Circumstances surrounding Aara's death might be considered suspicious by some, but it's the one subject Sam refuses to speak about, so there will be no answers from that corner.
Currently Sam and Aara live in Barton with their two adopted children Rhys (an Envy/Liberality spawn) and Yanya.

meditation, reflexes, agility
Less 'melee' and more 'preparation for melee,' Sam will conduct classes in meditation for those spawn who are not violently inclined.
hand-to-hand and found objects
Making do with what you have is Sam's fighting specialty, and as such, this is the only type of lesson he actually physically teaches. Your spawn will learn how to effectively punch, kick, eyepoke, crotchmash and spit on his or her adversaries, as well as techniques for recognizing the many weapons and distractions that are all around them, such as chairs, pencils, hair-pulling and the strategic use of fog.
