This thread actually has very little to do with Twilight bashing, so I apologize.
But I think this needs to be said.
Twilight, apparently, isn't the only book that's done the whole, 'lulz, I'm gonna talk about whatever is popular with kids nowadays and make millions, even if it's really badly written!1111!!!!oneone!!!' thing. I recently discovered the first book in a series from the late 1970's, called 'Flowers in the Attic'.
It is bullshit.
The writing is almost as bad, if not worse, than SMeyer's work. Sure, it's not a soppy romance where the main character falls in love with a *gasp* vampire!!!! in the first chapter, but the characters are stupidly unrealistic. Now, I'm only on chapter three, so I probably shouldn't judge yet, but as far as I can tell, there are four children who's father dies in the first chapter, and because their parents forgot to pay their debt back, they have to go to the house of their grandparents (who are very rich) to get them to put their mother back in the will. Of course, it turns out that the mother has probably had sex with her step-uncle, and the four children aren't supposed to be naked around each other, and they're locked into one room which they aren't allowed to leave, and the grandmother is evil, and the grandfather is dying, and blah blah blah.
I'm thinking against finishing this book. gonk

Are you kidding?! Flowers in the Attic was actually a book I liked And later on you find out the reason why it's written that way is because it is written from Cathy's point of view And it wasn't actually popular back then Schools BANNED it My dad read it when it came out My mom saw the movie when that came out And they both loved it because really it's about the plight of children who were forced into an unbearable situation and they had to live through it And yeah >>; Anymore and it's spoilers But if you're only in chapter 3 you're still in the slow part The whole thing revolves around sin and what the society finds right and wrong Along with dealing with the deadly sins of lust and greed. Trust me Finish it. I ended up reading the first one just to see what it was like(after watching the movie) And I couldn't stop so I had to read all 5(I just finished the very last one on Saturday). My dad is still in love with that book(and he's 54) because of the story it told and in the manner of which is was And the characters even though they seem unrealistic was actually realistic back in the time period it was written in(50's era when it's set) Being perfect back then isn't like Miley Cyrus status now it was about just your personality along with your looks. Plus back then Blond haired Blue eyed people that were natural(and they were) were usually thought of as beautiful.
And don't call the grandma evil crying I said the same thing about her at first but yeah not her fault
Edit:: Plus it's loosely based off of a true story 〖Julia〗 ✿ Wouldn't you? ✿

Honestly the movie I thought it was going to suck But because of when it was made and how it looks when you watch it (I watched an un-remastered version on tv so it looks like you're watching it on a vcr with how old the film looks but it doesn't shake) it looks good like it is back in the day And I was actually jumping and yelling for them not to do certain things(rare if I know people are going to be around) but it's like I don't know I kind of connected with them and felt like if that were to happen to me I'd probably do the exact same thing As for the ending though it's different than from the book so yeah >>; makes it more interesting if you only read the first book but if you read the second and beyond it makes you sort of cringe 〖Julia〗 ✿ Wouldn't you? ✿

I didn't think it was written badly, but the incest in it sickened me. I kind of felt like near the end of the series the author was trying to justify the implied incestuous-rape by saying the girl 'wanted' it and it just really bothered me.

That is sick but honestly if you think about it The brother and the sister were hitting puberty around the same time and there were no others around The brother kept promoting it and then on top of it she started to see him as her rock or prince ><;; The wanting it thing I think in a way she said to make him stop apologizing though Because later on she even says how things would have been different if she had actually made an effort to stop him 〖Julia〗 ✿ Wouldn't you? ✿

I personally have no problem with incest, but I do see problems when/if two relatives have a child together...

I already has much more plot than Twilight!
But you don't have to finish it if you truly don't want to.

Eldarc Filthiel I personally have no problem with incest, but I do see problems when/if two relatives have a child together... Then you'd HATE Until They Bring The Streetcars Back. It's got lots of incest rape. It's a really good book though because the main character tries to help this girl that gets picked on because of how she dresses (later on you learn that she's forced to dress that way) out of this horrible situation she deals with at home. I don't wanna spil too much, but it's really sad, but really good!
