Sounds sort of like "The Island of Docter Moreau"

I'm optimistic about this. If it'll help cure diseases, I'm all for it. Even if it doesn't go for it. We'll learn from it.

chessiejo
i have heard that they are developing pigs with human genes in order to make transplanting pig organs easier (less rejection). i suppose i am being primitive, but that gives me the shivers. it seems to make the animal nearly human.

another thing i have heard of is growing (cloning, i suppose) human bodies without heads, for organ transplants.

ewww...
i beleive animals do have souls, in fact, they have the same souls that humans have and have had. i'm hoping for the time we have the above situation so we don't have to experiment on animals non-theraputically. i agree that there is a lot of "spiecesism" with humans verses other creatures, but my thoughts on the matter is that an animal can not have full rights of a human unless it can respect the rights of another creature like a human can. and i think humans that do not respect the rights of other creatures, like dogs or other humans for example, are no better than animals themselves. i do think though that if cats were granted the intelligence of a human, than the rights would granted. people have taken cases to court about the rights of higher primates, and the courts ruled what i stated above, that the primate can not respect the rights of other creatures and therefore could not be granted rights as humans. i have a question for people though.

combining animal with human? well, it depends. If were doing it so we can cure more ills, or help out more people, it's not much different then just breeding an animal to do something. Of course, we'll be doing it through genitic engerneering, which only sets me on edge if it causes some sort of unstoppable virus or something. If we do it 'because we can', that will get me mad. Even art has a purpose, even if most people don't see it. Breeding animal because you can is just wrong. Strains the already straining resorces on this plantet, or compounds an already semi out of controll problem (like too many cats/dogs on the streets).

i'd like an example of scienists doing something just because they can. no one gives money to scientists to do something without purpose. scientists always hope for something of value to humanity (or at least the country if in the case of weapons development). necessity is the mother of invention, there is no immaculate conception for these things.

There are more diseases out there that effect animals & not humans. By using animal parts to cure some human ills we'd only be opening the door for a vast variety of others to attack those animal parts & potentially our human ones, our vets & doctors would have to some how coexist or spend more years at school learning both fields.

The Age of Anthros comes! Soon therians will walk the earth! Mwahahaha!

:p

But honestly, I think we are trying too much to become like gods. Even if the research is to save human lives, one needs to look at the world as a whole. We are a race that is drastically overpopulated as it is, even with al of the wars and conflicts going on. I don't think we should be trying to extend life longer than it is supposed to be.

In my opinion, the chimera's would have souls.

And personally, the rights thing seems a little weird to me. People are always pushing to stop animal testing, saying they need rights, too. Yet, no one wants to test on humans. So... it definitely wouldn't be alright to test things on something that is both.

An animal doesn't want to give up it's life to save some human that it's never met, which is why I don't really like taking them from animals. If people were less greedy and just signed the dang organ donors thing, this wouldn't happen as much. But besides that, has anyone here read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult? The girl is conceived strictly to save her sister. Her parents don't even have a name picked out for her until she is born. If you give an animal human feelings, its the exact same. Raising yourself a nice little organ farm.
