Not all wigs are. Some of them can be and it does take some time and some times some experimentation to get it right.
But they turn into your best friend when you have long hair and are cosplaying someone with short hair or the other way around. Also, sometimes you just can't find that hair color anywhere but in a wig

I go to this website: http://www.costuming.org/ and it tells ya how to design your wigs and stuff. So hopefully it'll help ya some and sorry if it doesn't.

I have an interesting idea for a cosplay, involving wigs.. but I don't know if it'll work...
I want to go for three days, dressing as four different characters, to a con.. anyways, so these characters are Kairi's two outfits from KHII, Olette from KHII and San from Mononoke Hime...
Here's the hair thing... I was gonna cut my hair in the style of Kairi's hair (since it's just natural layers, and I have layers and need to get a haircut anyways) and I was thinking of putting a short wig on, and flipping it outwards for the day, then wearing my hair down underneath it, since Olette has long hair with a lot of hair going out on the sides as well.. and then for the next two costumjes I'd dye my hair the brown/purple/red of Kairi's hair (temporary) and just straighten it.. and then for the last costume, I'd restyle the wig so it was just a normal, sorta curled in, sorta tousled look, and wear it with my hair under it for San...
This involves getting a swatch of all of Amphigory's wig colors and matching it as best as I can to my own... problem... will I look like an idiot? Can I put on a wig, and put my own hair coming out the front, on either side? I think that would make my life easier, but I'm not sure whether I would be able to do it successfully... let me know your opinions, please ^^

I found this site is useful for some wigs: www.wowwigs.comThey have lots and lots of different styles and range from about $40 and up (sometimes way up, but usually just for human-hair wigs). I got my Hinata wig there, as well as several others. I like them because they carry a lot of natural colored wigs in different styles- obviously not all anime characters have blue (etc) hair. lol

i go to costume/halloween shops.
they usually have a decent selection at reasonable cost.
be sure to try it on first since sizes vary.
