Marching band is definatly a sport. Band Camp is way more vigorous than the what the football teams do.

I once got hit in the back of my head with a drum stick (on accident) DD: Very dangerous. Band is definitely
damn, I hate it when people give me crap about that and think they're all high just because they do freaking volleyball or something. (not that I have a grudge against any volleyball player)

personally, i consider marching band training for basketball season. i mean, all the leg work from lifting your feet so high and doing our crazy dances and "specialty move" (we have this thing called the shuffle. it's hard to explain but it's a lot of leg work) helps me get ready for the running and lunging in season. AND having to blow, dance, march, and stay in line as well as practice parade marching helps the respiratory for when we have to do a bunch of running in basketball, so really, band IS a sport.
anyways, as far as injuries go: pulled leg muscles hit with a bass drum (who actually appologized!) hit with a trombone (who didn't =[) bloody knees from doing the specialty move on dead grass smacked my face with my sax while marching out (we angle them down, then angle forward, then lift over our heads, so i got hit bringin it back down) sliced open a finger cuz a loose screw scratched it
to anyone who says bands not a sport, challenge them to go to band camp. challenge them the hours of yelling, drilling, conditioning, and then special sectional conditioning (which is always harder than what the BD makes you do) and then see if they still claim it's just a class/club.

Oh non rien de rien... Oh non je ne regrette rien
Its makes me mad that people think band's not a sport.
Personally, I haven't really gotten injured yet. I'm only a freshie, so I'll probably get one eventually. One of the sophomores in my section got a base drum rammed into his shoulder while marching at a 160 tempo. He fell down. So yeah.
If anyone is prone to causing injury, it's me and my clumsiness. Luckily, I have been able to do suicides correctly. Being a trombonist, that is important. Wenn ich ihre Haut verließ, Der Frühling blutet in Paris!

We get PE credit since it's considered a physical activity which makes sense biggrin . Actually, I don't think "band" can be classified with the term "sport" but I do agree that it can be as hard and dangerous as sports (most of the time even more so than a sport!). I've had my share of injuries, mostly involving tripping in holes on our practice field XD

Band is a sport, but its even so much more. Its an art. We Have to stay in step, on beat, we have to match lines perfectly, time our breathing, get louder, softer, faster slower. We have to watch for commands, and take cues from each other. We have to remember sets and music. We have to remember how our embuchers and our fingering are.
ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!
Football players have to know to watch the ball and tackle whoever is trying to take it. Lets see them play a song in 6/4 while basically dashing across the feild with about fifty pounds of dead weight balanced on one shoulder.
Band is more taxing mentally and physically.
As for injuries. We get hurt more often than they do. I myself have been in marching band for five years. and in band itself for seven. When I start college I'll be in it then too. And in all my years I have been hurt every year.
Sixth Grade: Smacked repeatedly on the top of the head with my tuba slipping of of my lap.
Seventh: Same as sixth, only less frequently.
Eigth: Tripped on my face multipletimes with a tuba on my shoulder.
All through High school.
I have been hit with stands, A friend smaked me in the face with her Saxaphone during drill, another friend with her flute. I managed to get hit with a tree. I have had stands fall on me. Two trumpet players managed to fall on me somehow. I fell into a pothole once. it wasn't pleasant. The entire drum line fell on me. and we had Three snares, a quad and four bass drums. Plus I had my sousaphone on my shoulder. You do the math,....... That hurts like hell.
