I just hit level 80, and I have the gear of a 70-75 player, along with a couple Brewfest trinkets.
What should I do to get geared?

Depending on your class and skill, run normal instances until you feel comfortable doing some simple heroics, like nexus or utgarde keep.
You can also farm rep to buy some decent items from the factions.

farm ToC and H ToC 5 man for gear and badges. Chain as many heroic as you can, once you have enough emblems get T8.5 Chest. Then after you get enough gear start PUGing OS, Nax, and EoE 10

@ Mat: Right, do as many heroics as possible with 70 - 75 gear, that will sure do it confused
I dinged 80 on the new server I play on under a week ago, and my gear was horrible too. What I did was to do all q's in every area, until I got the achievement for it, and then move on to the next one. Group quests in the areas you are geared for right now should upgrade you pretty fast, and some of the lower lvl normal instances will also do fine for you. Having dual specc with one of them being tank or healer will probably make it easy for you to get a group together, even if the stuff you want should be DPS gear.

I just find a naxx 25 that is trying to fill a last few spots without caring about gear, only about not wiping the raid on thaddius and such, and tell them "I'm in greens, yes, but this is my main" and link them my main's armory. Knowing that I know all the strats by heart, they invite me.

My gear is horrible too.
I can hold my own in fights though, so long as I don't get mobbed. My only problem is that I have difficulties soloing some quests that others can do easily. I'm planning to spend some quality time hanging out in ToC. It'll probably help.

Run a few easy heroics. After you ding 80, time to farm H ToC for gear and badges. After that, start on PUGing raid groups, like Realia said.

I have heard good word about going through an instance on normal just to finish the quests that go with them, and either use the equipment from the quest rewards (I know some are in the ilvl 174-187 range) or hope the bosses drop a nice blue or two. 3nodding
Then once you have enough to get a general "okay" gearscore to survive Naxx or OS with, you're pretty much set. If you're in a guild that runs VoA, maybe see if you can bring in your new 80 just to help beat up Archavon for badges.
