(Optional) Instantly buy up to 2 winning numbers with Power Picks, leaving only 3 left to guess
The above line was taken from the latest Lotto announcement. It seems Gaia is giving people the option to skip the entire chance part of the lotto, and skip straight into the right numbers. While this might get them an extra $2 per month for the system, it's still a horrible thing to do. Leaves bad impressions on young minds, ya?
Thoughts on the situation?

I was happy at first when I saw the two slots that would guess the right number for you. Until clicking that lead me to the cash shop and I got mad. Of course, I'm not surprised they did this, but for once I'm just a bit mad.

It doesn't really surprise me... and it doesn't necessarily leave a bad taste in my mouth. Gaia costs about 2 million a month to run, and they get only get several hundred thousand from advertisements... this leaves the rest up to user purchases and other sources of income. The chances of winning the lottery are still astronomical, even with those two numbers now an autowin.

I agree with Crimson in some parts. It isn't surprising and it does take a lot of money to run Gaia. This isn't Blizzard charging $15 a month for WoW. All the purchases are optional for us.

Oh I didn't know the whole 2 million a month thing. I mean, I know they need money, but I didn't know it was that much D: I take back my anger xD
But it's still not cool to start messing with chance and all.

I agree with frogger. The current probability of winning without the filled in spaces is one out of 9.31322575 × 10^20, or 93,132,257,500,000,000,000 the probability of winning with the filled in spaces is 2.05891132 × 10^14, or 20,589,113,200,000
it's still crazy high numbers, but it is an exponential decrease.

It's probably about as profitable as spending the same amount on RIG items.
Gaia's gotta turn a profit, I guess, and I stopped caring a while ago.

{{♥ ♠ ♦ ♣}} Heh. Flawed math there...
Anyway, the lotto is set at 5 numbers and there are 48 numbers to choose from. The order doesn't matter, so instead of a permutation, it's a combination [meaning that if the number was say 1,2,3,4,5 , if you had chose "5,3,4,1,2" you'd still win].
That also means that the same number can't be pulled twice in the same lotto.
Therefore the odds of winning are 48 x 47 x 46 x 45 x 44 =205,476,480 to one.
With one power play, the odds are 47 x 46 x 45 x 44 = 4,280,760 to one.
With two it's 46 x 45 x 44= 91,080 to one. Not exactly "easy".
I have no idea how you derived your answer Tokio...

I think people will use it.But, how helpful will it be? If you're lucky you'll get 3 numbers and make back a little of what you spent trying to buy a winning ticket.

It will be very usefull for the people that don't let statistics stop them, and end up gettign all 5 right because of the two they bought, thus granting them more money than they will ever need. Keep in mind, despite the odds, people *have* been winning.
