It took me two weeks to get through the Fellowship and then The Two Towers. After that I had to wait because my older sister was reading Return of the King. So I ended up taking a couple days to read the Hobbit and then started and finished Return of the King in five days. Yeah, the whole romance stuff kind of shocked me. It seemed like they just randomly decided to add it and they didn't care that it was out of place and it came out of nowhere. I wouldn't mind if she had just left little hints and stuff but the whole turning Hermione into a jealous beast and Ron suddenly becoming a stud muffin made me want to burn the books. I also hated that she killed off Sirius. I think that's when I started to dislike JKR. I felt like the last two books were half-assed and not the same quality as the first two or three books. I pretty much just skimmed through them instead of how I normally read it once and then go through two or three more times to catch things I might've missed. I read the last two books just once and the things I missed I used fanfiction to help with.

The Two Towers is my favorite in the Lord of the Rings trilogy; book and movie. All three have gorgeous special effects and stunning music.
Have my fellow Tolkein fans read his masterpiece The Silmarillion?
As for Harry Potter, I think Rowling just wanted to finally finish her series. The fifth addition kind of did it in for me. It didn't seem quite as adventurous as the previous books. And then The Deathly Hallows seemed rather. . . weird. I mean, the three camped out for like, two weeks or something? Not to mention I do agree about leaving the romances to fanfiction. (x I'm a HermionexDraco shipper myself.

Yeah, even though The Two Towers makes me cry when Haldir gets an axe to the back/head wherever it hits [I always leave the room], it's my favorite. I read The Silmarillion a couple years ago, I hardly remember anything from it so I'll have to reread it sometime soon.

When I first saw The Two Towers in cinema, I thought it was so funny when Gimli and Legolas started competing about killing orcs. biggrin
I always almost start crying during the scene in Return of the King in which Pippin finds Merry on the battlefield and during the one where Frodo leaves Middle-Earth and says goodbye to his friends. sad
I started reading Silmarillion a few years back but I couldn't really get into it, I don't know why. I might start reading it again after I finish my literature essays and when I don't have a hundred other books to read.
I remember I got into Harry Potter when I was seven years old and how it was pure torture when I had to wait for the Finnish translations of the books (I think it took nearly two years for the 4th or 5th book to be published in Finnish). I've only read The Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows in English but one day I'll read the rest. I didn't like Deathly Hallows at all, it seemed so forced and like it was written in I-just-want-to-finish-this-asap style. I hope the movies won't be as bad.

I'm glad the movies still kept the spirit of competition between Gimli and Legolas as it was in the books.

Ahahaha, I loved the relationship between Legolas and Gimli. It was cute. I loved the interviews on the extended version of The Two Towers. They made me laugh.

I bought Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys the day before yesterday (in Finnish, they'd run out of the all the English copies) which reminded me of my other favorite film, Stardust. I like how Claire Danes (Yvaine) looks so natural in the film and how she doesn't look too pretty and overly made-up, if you know what I mean! : D

I love the Keira Knightley version of Pride and Prejudice. I saw it when I went to visit my sister at the college she goes to. Matthew Macfadyen was absolutely delicious in it. Plus, I've always liked Keira Knightley.

I've read The Silmarillion and it's quite possibly my favorite book EVER. Except it does take a lot of attending to, you can't just half-a** it, so it's been a while since I read it.
I'm a fan of the movies, but really really really REALLY hated what they did to Faramir and the Ents. I ranted for a very long time about that. And I just cannot get my mind around the fact that they spent two movies making Arwen into a badass just to have her go all mysteriously swoony and need help~ because she can't deal with the bad guy being evil~. I mean, wtf? Why didn't she just show up with Aragorn's banner, tell him to grow a pair, and ride with him on the black ships? That's actually more or less what she did in the book, except she sent the Dunedain to ride with him instead of showing up herself.
I loved the Stardust book and the movie, although the two are rather different in tone. It's probably the first time anyone's ever mangled a book in movie form and it still turned out good.
Soooo...who else here loves Labyrinth?
