so i let my cats outside to play in the yard rather frequently.
well it's getting the time of year that the cicadas are comming out.
one of my cats, the more curious of the 2 found one in the grass and after playing with it a little bit decided that it needed to come inside so she could play with it some more and tell me how proud she is to have it.

i've come to the conclusion that cicadas are the perfect Cat toy
they move by themselves.
they make LOTS of noise.
they don't seem to bite or sting, nearest i can tell.
they are 100% all natural and made from biodegradible materials.
they are most likely not toxic if a cat decides to take a bite out of it.

only downfall i can see is that they aren't "in season" very long.
and that the cats insist on bringing them into the house despite having been told that their friends have to play outside.

yep they're so proud when they grab anything living from the outdoors. she brings in garden snakes so often. i've also seen her bring in birds and other asorted bugs.

Cicadas make one of the more horrid buzzing noises, especially around dusk and dawn. when i was younger i used to just call them locusts. but i am now aware that locusts are more similar to grasshoppers than cicadas.
Cicadas leave a golden amber husk latched onto tree bark when they outgrow their shell and grow wings.

about the only thing that would make them better cat toys is either making them hardier, tougher carapace or something. or having actual pokemon healing sprays that i could just reapply to the injured cicada. but after typing that out, that makes me sound like a psychopath doesn't it lol

Cats love walnuts. All I have to do is roll a walnut on the floor, and the cat will chase it and bat it around.

Also, they love to follow pencils around. So cute to watch that.
