Phantom of the Operahouse
Yet again I find myself in a forum in which my post in the first belonging to a male. Am I the only male in this Guild? Either way, on to my purpose for posting.

To begin, my favorite versions are Gaston Leroux's original book and Andrew Lloyd Webber's, both the play and the movie. I found Leroux's version suspenseful and mysterious and Webber's, somehow, enchanting. It seemed to really pull you in to the story.

My favorite character is The Phantom, my favorite of the lot and one of the best figures in all of literature, second only to D'Artagnan and the Musketeers, a childhood favorite of mine. I also find the managers, Firmin Richard (Gilles Andre) and Armand Moncharmin (Richard Firman), to be very funny and highly amusing. I even found La Carlotta to be rather funny, especially in the movie. "--Ma...Until you stop these things happening, this thing does not happen!" "--Now you see. Bye-bye, I'm really leaving."

My favorite songs are any song with The phantom from "Angel of Music" to "Track Down this Murderer." My favorite four, however, have to be the "All I Ask of You (Reprise)" on the roof, "Stranger than you Dreamt It," "Music of the Night," and "The Phantom of the Opera."

It's okay if you're the only guy. That's how my friend was until I got my hair cut and everyone starting considering me a guy in the weekly group census. In all seriousness, I like there only being one of a different gender in a group. It's easier to remember their name. Unless it's Taylor or a name that goes both ways.

Anyway, Good to meet you and I am pleased that you stopped to look at my board. Have a good day!

R.B.

I've pretty much seen everything and heard everything, really. Though, for a slightly more interesting post I'll say that the 2004 film is just another addition to the long line of disappointing Phantom films that have come to pass over the century and perhaps in a couple years more I'll be able to appreciate it for all its terrible qualities. Until then, I can still stew and plot to have ALW replaced with a much more knowledgable stand-in when it comes to his Phantom empire... or convince another more competant director and creative team to produce a dramatic film of the original novel that does not involve soul-selling, rats, prostitutes, acid, baritones named Anatole, inspectors named Ledoux, unneccessary mob scenes, etc., etc.

Alas.

If it was disappointing, then I need to get out more...will some one please point me in the direction of the nearest library/movie rental place?

It was very disappointing in more ways than one. I can go on if you'd like, but it's opening a giant can of worms we often keep locked up.

I will not direct you to a film rental store--I will direct you to West End to see the original production.

I hope no Gerard Butler fans get mad at me for this, but I fell I must say this. By far, Micheal Crawford pwns him. And he doesn't sing as well as he's supposed to. I can sing Music of the Night better than him. I love that song. I have nothing against Gerard Butler, but some things must be said.

Favorite Phantom: Robert Englud(Hadn't seen original play)

Second Favorite: Erik.

I must disagree about Butler's voice! I absolutely love his voice, expecially during Music of the Night.

"Night-time sharpens,
heightens each sensation"

The way he hits the word "heightens" = orgasm

Sorry. Just had to say that. xp

Not to challenge you, I do find his voice pleasing. ((Hieghtens=orgasm)) It's just that he has more of a rockstar's voice than an operatic voice. One thing is, listen to Music of the Night closely, and you'll hear a few unpleasing sounds, but I guess he did a good job. I guess I just notice these things because I sing opera. Also, The Point of No Return, I'm sorry, but there was bad stuff in there. If he were a Rock singer, I'd heart him more, but not Opera. Not that he's that bad, but he could've been better.

I know this was an older post, but to answer your question, he was in a band once...*knows fact from her special edition of PotO Movie Soundtrack* they mentioned it there and also in the behind the scenes in the DVD.

I'll still keep my own opinion that the movie was a grand experience to view until I can see the orignal production...I don't wish you to go on...go away...You don't have to go away literally, you're welcome to stay, I'm just a little sad now...

baritones named Anatole

Oh gosh yes. That version just shocked me. I just wanted to slap the director, whoever he is, in the face. WHO SAYS THAT ERIK'S NAME IS SUDDENLY SPELLED E-R-I-Q-U-E?!?!
And some people say the 2004 movie is the worst one ever. Geez. Alas is right.
Speaking of, how do you remain so eloquent all the time?

Getting back on track after seconding Fuoko for the umpteenth time, here are the faves.
Favorite song: That's a hard one. I'd have to say either the title song, Music of the Night, or Point of No Return.
Favorite character: Who else but Erik!
Favorite version: Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...... *nervousness*
Favorite actor as Erik: Michael Crawford!!!
Experience points come from: Original novel, Susan Kay's book, ALW musical live in London (with Piangi as Erik XD), OLC soundtrack which I own, 2004 movie, 1943 was it? movie, 1925 silent movie A LONG TIME AGO

Random trivia: Watch A Series of Unfortunate Events and in the scene where Count Olaf is in the gas station reading a magazine, on the front of the magazine is Lon Chaney as the Phantom, an advertisement for the 1950's silent movie. That was a creepy movie....I loved it!
