The characters? The worst part. ALL of them are two dimensional and stereotypical. What makes you want to keep reading a book: You want to know what happens to the characters. Because you care about them. Apparently Meyer doesn't understand this.
Others have mentioned everything else.

I happen to be a hater of it.. i read the first book and i tollerated it.. i was two chapters into the second one and had to put it down. I found there was no depth in the character and honestly, how dumb can a girl be to go from loving a vampire to a Werewolf, like i understand that people can love the danger or the blood, but she doesnt. it just boggles the mind.
as for the sparkly part.. *twitch Twitch* So bad.. i like my vampires deadly and will burst into flame.. it makes the story great... like i enjoy that she put a twist to the vamps by getting them to drink non human blood but there is a limit to what can be changed...

In the books she (SMeyers) describes Edward too much. WAY too much. Bella is obviously not in love, or ready to be in love. She is obsessive and blind to the fact that in the real world Edward would be classified as a stalker. It's also technically *****, considering he's over 100 years old. Also, his family is WAY too perfect. The characters lack a personality. Bella is a Mary-Sue. She has no flaws and is submissive to whatever Edward wants. Edward is just...devoid of any defining traits other than his sparkly f** skin and his topaz eyes. o.O
As for the whole Jacob thing...she's deciding between a corpse and a freaking dog. Wth. Where are Bella's standards?
o.O The movie had terrible acting too.
