Stormy Midnight
I'm not sure how my school is, but I did notice that it says nothing about homosexuality in the Nondiscrimination Policy. I always notice small things. I'm tempted to bring it up. Anyone else think I should? I know, I'm good at going off topic slightly.

Yeah, mine neither.

I think it stems from some federal anti-discrimination policy that prevents all types of discrimination in schools except for harassment based on sexual orientation.

But I'm not 100% sure, that's just what I've heard.

Aw.
I'd love to have a GSA at my school, but more than likely the school wouldn't allow it.

There's an incredibly strong GSA at my school. hell, half the school did the day of silence, and we even got a board together to counter the administration's plan to prevent the theater department from putting together the Laramie Project. We were on the news because we performed such a contraversial play. It bugs me when people call it contraversial because I don't believe that there's anything contraversial about it. It's pretty straight-forward. *sigh*

But yeah. The GSA here is wonderful and half the teachers wear the T-shirts regularly. I guess we're more open-minded than most high schools.

The problem with my school is that I live in the worst part kentuky I can posibly think of. More than half of the student body that drives have trucks with some sort of confederate flag or other racial discriminitory things on them and so do the teachers. My school is very anti-gay and anti-black which drives me insane!!!!!

I'm not sure if it would work in my school. (I live in a place thats barely considered a city with a small town mind....yay....) A couple of years ago, some seniors at my highschools tried to start a GSA but they were turned down after trying for awhile. Oddly enough though, this year about 50-60 students walked out of school during the day of silence (our principal tried to put a stop to it, then he renamed it to "day of awareness"....)...so it might be ok to try to start one this year......my fellow students confuse me.... sweatdrop

Thanks for that.
Sadly, my school is an a**.
A girl wore a rainbow necklace with the word "pride" on it, and the administration made her take it off because it was "inappropriate."
But of course, they do let people wear buttons that have a picture of a marajuana leaf and say "Make it legal."
Same girl tried to start up a GSA last year and they didn't let her, and will never let anyone, because it's a catholic school, and thus, homosexuality is "innapropriate."

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that. Schools like that just anger me to no point. My school is the same way because I live in a hicktown where you have to be white, straight, and a bible thumper in order to not be hated. (I have nothing against the bible, I'm just saying people here are very intolerant of other religions, as well as color and orientation)

Oh my Gosh, this is possibly the best thread ever! I have been dying to start a GSA in my school, but I didn't know how to go about it. I think my school needs a kick in the face, they're very intolerant of people. I despise this town.

Thanks! 4laugh

I wish I could but I know no one who likes the idea of being involved in anything that has the word gay in it. Its not that its a homophobic school it's just that people here swear to much if you know what I mean, so they think that being a club like this will make everyone say "There goes the queer" and such other phrases I think everyone knowns. The good thing is that last year I made friend who is a straight ally and told me that she thinks that gay marrige should be nationally legal.
