Name: Aabsinral
Age: 16
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Craft: Baker
Rank: Apprentice (3 turns)
Physical Description: 5'11" tall and willowy, Aabsinral has encouraged a feminine appearance since he was twelve, at the behest of his twin sister. For this reason, his dirty blond, softly curled hair dangles to just below his shoulders, framing a long face with pale, grey-green eyes that are too wide for it. His nose, once broken by that selfsame sister, has healed slightly crooked, making what was once a fine nose into something that detracts from the gentle girlishness of his appearance. His chin is a little on the weak side, but as his facial hair is patchy and terrible looking, he has not ventured to grow a small beard to cover it.
His parents were both native to the Bitra region, where they were younger children of farmers. When they were old enough, they wed and moved from the Bitra area to Keroon, but brought with them- and gave to Aabsinral- pale, freckle-less skin. Because of his pallor, he burns easily, and a life of sun exposure has left him seemingly permanently pink on every visible inch of skin.
Personality: Aabsinral, who asks to be called Abi when he introduces himself- it is a rather ungainly name- rarely disagrees with anyone. He seems not so much docile as he is dreamy, always paying only half the attention to the world that he really ought to. He sees things around him, he knows they're there, but he prefers daydreams. Some people have wondered if he's been getting into the healers' fellis, but those who've known him since childhood vouch that he's always been that way, walking around without a purpose, and occasionally chatting in a soft voice with people around him. Since his sister and he separated, he has been showing a more decisive side, presumably until he finds a new person to follow mildly.
His favorite pass time, aside from walking with no destination and meeting people along the way, is to find a nice sunny place, and let his skin crisp like a roast while he watches things fly. Anything, really, but dragons are always a favorite. Of course, his lack of interest in his daily work often gets him into trouble, but as with anything else, Abi accepts his punishments with no fuss, and carries about them in his own insubstantial way, occasionally even pleased to do them, when he finds himself with kitchen work.
History: Abi did not speak his first words until nearly four turns of age, but did skip the baby-talk stages altogether. He was always thought of as slow by his peers and parents, with only his sister knowing otherwise, and constantly trying to explain his behavior to deaf ears. She insisted that Abi would become a powerful craftmaster, or at least that he had the talent necessary, and refused to stand for any implications that he was suited to a homebound life or drudge work.
He did catch the eye of a Jr journeyman healer when, at age seven, Neffa had half dragged the young man out to where her brother was trying to feed fellis berries to a small, injured wildthing. Apparently, the boy understood the concept of drugging something out of its pain, and knew what plant would achieve that effect. After a bit of tutoring by Journeyman Trelis, it became obvious that, although Aabsinral's ability to rote memorize things and repeat them word for word was impressive, he had a hard time wrapping his mind around concepts that were only told to him. Here was a boy who could only properly learn something if he saw it happen, or did it himself, through experience. Of course, after two Turns, Trelis was assigned to another location, and Abi was returned to a life of being generally considered useless. Which didn't bother him in the slightest. His sister went on to become widely considered the smartest spitfire in the area, and Abi was more than happy to drift behind her, like smoke from her flames.
When she petitioned to study in the Healer Hall at age Thirteen, Abi was very suddenly left entirely by himself (any friends he'd had belonged more to his sister) which was a foreign sensation to him. And, for the first time in his young life, he actually decided to do something that would fill up his empty days of sisterlessness.
He chose to learn how to cook. It was a strange choice in his parents' eyes, but Abi liked it well enough. All he ever had to do was remember ingredients and experiment with them. No long lectures about vague things he couldn't understand, like he'd been forced to sit through as a child.
After a Turn of cooking (mostly proving he was, in fact, fully capable of doing it without burning anything down), and gaining a fair shade of his own parental respect, rather than leeching off his sister's, he petitioned a local Sr Journeyman for tutoring, and carried on learning. If he were going to choose a specialty, he would probably play in the hearth, savory foods and roasted meats being his personal favorites.
Abi found himself Searched two months before his seventeenth turn, much to the surprise of his parents who still truly believed there was something wrong with the boy's mind, and though he'd heard of the terrible tragedies that had befallen the most recent hatching- who on Pern had not?- he simply smiled his fuzzy eyed smile, and agreed that he would like to stand on the sands before he got too old. Besides, he did not doubt that people ate in Weyrs, and that kitchen hands would always be welcome.
Pets: Nary a one, in all his life. Which is good, because he'd likely forget to feed the poor thing unless he was reminded every second of the day, and it'd run off to someone else anyway.
Other/Talents:
-Abi's memory is formidable, and he can regurgitate information easily, though abstract comprehension is harder for him. He can give you the right answer, simply because it was mentioned in passing, but has more trouble explaining why it is right unless he's seen or experienced a similar event.
-He does not use contractions, for the most part, though he has no problem contracting names. But, things like "it's" and "you're" do not show up in his speech patterns very often.

Will this character be a candidate? Yes

Neffa: I miss you, sister! You will have to come and study to heal threadscore, so that we can be together again. I will make dozens of bubbly pies just for you, if you come!

Kella: I like you very much, Miss Kella. You remind me of all the things I liked about home! I think you will keep me from missing it too dearly.

M'zaji: A friend? Perhaps one day. I think I would like that. He seems nice, and anyone willing to handle Miss Kella and support the Weyr would be a good friend to have.

Kallista I do not know much about you, but your dragon is by far the loveliest I know! I will remember your face, in case we pass again.

Valad As tall as me, and once a trader. Maybe, if beds do not open for us soon, you can show me how one "camps" and sleeps outdoors without being constantly cold, wet and fearful?

Sevina ...You are a frightening sort... I have never really liked harpers, and you do not help my opinion of them. I do not dislike you, so much as fear you.

Z'ven Ah! The wonderful rider who brought me here! Without you, I would still be peeling vegetables in Keroon, rather than boiling them here!

Tiarenth Such a lovely dragon. I could praise the virtues of your colors for candlemarks at a time. And, I will never be able to show enough gratitude for your willingness to take me into the air and bring me here.

Astarteth You, who they say I ought call Astar, are my favorite to watch, out of the many dragons in the Weyr. It is a pity, I think, that I have not had a chance to tell you so myself, but I shall keep ready for that chance.

Kaedrelath I cannot say I know much about you, but as with your rider, anyone Miss Kella likes is someone I would like to know better!
