"I wouldn't feed everything you have to the gold, if she is around. Just like dragons, fire lizards are notoriously hungry when they hatch out." Kallista accepted the spiderclaw legs without making a face. She tried to peer down into the hollow but couldn't see that far in.
Though the place did show promise. There were recent signs of fire lizards and the wallow was well above the high tide marks. Not too exposed but not too hidden. The others were all spread out by now. Kallista remembered her promise to M'zaji. Tell Kaedrelath we may be lucky.
She could hear Astar grumble but pass the message along.

"Hope they like spiderclaw. I thought they'd lay their eggs over top the sand like dragons too but I might be wrong." He commented to Kallista giving the man Valad a curious look. He didn't know him at all, but he had first discovered the hole, if by accident, was he interested in a fire lizard egg? Then again, were the eggs really here? What had come out of the hole had been a blue. "A blue came out but wild fire lizards stick in groups right?" He felt a stick of disappointment shading over his excitement. What if the wallow was empty now? He couldn't see to tell! Was the blue working for the gold somewhere? Should they follow the blue instead and see where it led them? He wondered, if this wallow was empty, were there others nearby? He was probably going to pay for his boldness in reaching down into the den.
"Sorry about earlier, I got excited. I'm 15 turns old." He answered her previous question. They could dig to make the entrance wider to see into but it seemed disrespectful. If anyone was home, he'd prefer to announce himself. Even if no one was home, the little blue had been here. Then again if eggs were buried underneath....? With that thought in mind he started digging slowly and gently.

Arolon was dumbfounded. It was that easy? JUST. LIKE. THAT?! Wow, people had searched all day, even people with fire lizards! All they had to do was ask a fire lizard, if they could find one. He didn't have a fire lizard though, so maybe this wouldn't be easy for them. He smiled up at the man for the helpful tidbit though. "Thank you, I'm Arolon, candidate from, well, here." He gratefully took the water skin and offered it to Kallista to drink from. Ladies first, he'd been taught manners.
Now that he knew what to look for he was beginning to notice more wallows like the one he was currently digging in. This man, Valad, sure seemed to know what he was talking about! One must gain a lot of knowledge with the life of a trader.

Valad smiled and crouched again. "So do many people here have fire lizards? And are they well trained? I've met a few who could take letters, find people and things, and such. But they all belonged to holders or Weyr folk. Only one person in my clan had a Flit, a little blue, and that guy spent more time trading than training and the thing left one day and didnt come back. But on the life you dont have much time for a pet." Valad was starting to get into a talking round. "So your from Ista? Very nice." He smiled and looked at the sand wollow. "A cove holder I met once had a ferret trained to go into holes like this, it would look for snakes, but Im sure one could train them to look for eggs." He shrugged.

"Don't think I'd be allowed to own anything but a fire lizard, besides a possible future dragon if I impress. It's a really good idea though." Arolon admitted, nodding his head. "I have seen a good couple of candidates with fire lizards. Don't know the candidates well enough to know if their well trained fire lizards or not.
He tried digging in a couple different wallows now, hoping maybe a wild flit would come out and he could ask one politely where the clutch is then reward it with a spiderclaw leg. He doubted that if he told someone who owned a fire lizard that they could just ask that the person would share with them. They may overhear anyway. He hoped whoever got them made the babies truely happy in life. "It's a nice home." Arolon spoke of Ista softly. He loved this place. "I didn't know fire lizards made wallows under the ground." He commented. He looked curiously to Kallista. Had she known? She was older than him, and a dragon rider. There was still hope to find the clutch! Well, he hoped anyway...

Kaedrelath pulled away from Lissa's touch, at first. The blue was surprised at her audacity; reaching out to stroke a strange dragon? Not many had the confidence to do so. But, the blue was an affection-hog, and pushed his nose deeper into Lissa's hand, a croon tickling the back of his throat as she laughed. That feels good, Kaedrelath's voice gently broke into Lissa's mind; slow like the gentle drip-drip-drop of water off a melting icicle, with the hint of warmth that the closely-approaching spring brings. His eyes, which had been close to closed thanks to Lissa's affection, sprang open at the mention of fish. He didn't eat it very often, but it was a greatly-enjoyed snack! Fish? Oh, I'd like that very much, little one, the blue told his new, young friend. He pulled his nose out of her hand to nuzzle her cheek, his breath hot and spicy.
The blue's head shot up to look around as Kallista's green called out to him. He answered Astarteth both verbally and mentally; he called out with a jaunty warble-trill, his voice reaching up into high octaves. M'zaji thanks your rider, and says he'll also do the same- he's enjoying his search quite a bit. Kaedrelath's voice betrayed confusion' the blue didn't see anything exciting about hunting for a firelizard's clutch.
"Ah, so that's quite a bit of time! I'm surprised I haven't seen you around before!" In all actuality, the bluerider HAD probably seen 'Rish around before. But, M'zaji was horrible with names and faces. With an overcrowded Weyr, one could hardly be expected to remember every face they saw. The bluerider blushed sheepishly, anyway. "You were a glass smith? I've always wanted to learn how to blow glass! Maybe you could teach me sometime, or you could get one of your crafter friends to teach me," the bluerider suggested with an impish grin. He had a decent amount of spare time on his hands, and wouldn't mind taking up a craft- if only for fun. He was a dragonrider first and foremost, and held no desire to rise up in the ranks of any craft.
"Yeah, the stream shouldn't be too far-" the bluerider paused in what he was saying, following 'Rish's direction down to his feet. "Oh!" he exclaimed, grinning ear-to-ear. "So, we just dig? With our hands?" M'zaji asked, holding up his hands and wiggling his fingers. Before receiving an answer, the candidate had already squatted down and begun to root around in the damp sand. "Ooookay, than!" The bluerider followed his young teacher's example for harvesting shellfish. M'zaji squatted down and grabbed two handfuls of sand, wriggling his fingers down under the surface layer. Amongst the sand, M'zaji felt something... out of place. It wasn't sand, that was for sure! After brushing away the grit and grime, the bluerider held up the clam for 'Rish's approval. "Check it out! I found one!"
The young, dark-skinned candidate accompanying Abi frowned deeply. He hadn't found anything yet, either. With a sigh, Kella wondered just where else on the beach they could check! She was sure that the clutch would have been found by now! They certainly had enough people out on the beach searching, she though with a dark scowl. As Abi approached, and offered her not only his hand, but a rousing speech, Kella had to sigh and agree with him. Firelizards were very shrewd. If she had babies to guard, she definitely wouldn't just put them out in the open for anyone to stumble across.
Kella glared at Abi's offered hand, and proceeded to stand up of her own accord. "I'm not a cripple," she said, not too harshly, and swatted his hand away. "I can stand on my own, thanks," she said with a glare, though her words held no venom. "Hmmm," the dark-skinned girl wondered where they could search next. Just about every square foot of beach was covered by one of the search parties, leaving hardly anywhere unattended. "What about there?" Kella suggested a lumpy patch of sand near a rocky outcropping, the waves crashing on the rocks creating a spray of white foam.

"It would matter how many times you visit the hold if you remember," 'Rish said wiggling his fingers to find a second clam, grinning at M'zaji's catch. "So you did, mind you we need to find quite a few before we have enough for any decent meal." He pulled out a second, rinsed it off and tossed in the bucket. "At home this would have been done with these oddly shaped sticks." He returned to searching.
"Mm. The glass smith is over crowded at the moment and I don't have the proper tools to teach you glass blowing." He gave a grin, then hiss as the chilly water lapped his feet. "See what I can do though...perhaps take you with me to the hold when we have time off together." 'Rish enjoyed glass smiting and wanted to keep at it as long as he possibly could, even if it was just a side hobby.

((sorry for holding things up. My brain died.))
Kallista thought for a moment on Valad and Arolon's words. She had heard that fire lizards shared memories but that there was no real time frame for what they remembered. She listened to the two talk for a moment before adding her own thoughts in. "I think that the flits would make homes where ever it was safe. As for asking one where to find a nest, considering how limited their memory is... You would probably just get confused."
Kaedrelath says his rider might have a nest. Let him know if you actually find anything. Astarteth started out of the waters and looked around for a nice place to sun herself and dry out. What was the fuss about? The little creatures are a pain. And noisy.
"Ista is not bad. I have been to Southern just to learn how to get there. We have to get familiar with all the major Holds and Weyrs just in case we are needed. I have been in Ista all my life before that."
