i know with my guy once i got him home after just a few days he started to change. i had seen his at the store for a while though and he always stayed the same, the petsmart i got him from takes decent care of their bettas and changes the cup water everyday and i only change his water every week

Maybe the store tank was brighter, and your tank is a bit darker? Do you add anything to the water the store might not be adding? Or maybe it's due to a different diet? I know some fish react faster to color enhancers then others, though I'm not sure that it will happen after a few days.

in betta there actually IS a color changing gene mostly found in marbel betta
even though betta change color anyway as they grow the color changing gene can cause waaaaay different changes

Wow cool biggrin Heh, now I really want to keep bettas again.
Wait is that gene in anyway related to the color changes in goldfish? I used to have a very nice red and white Sarassa comet/comon hybrid, but over the years it started turning almost pure white. It always puzzled me.
