Even as Fumei pushed the stroller, she couldn't help but think of the contents.
Baby B'Elanna had INSISTED on taking her cracked egg of birth with her. (Rather, B'El wouldn't stop crying unless she and her birth egg were reunited. It took more than half past forever to see that she wasn't crying for food or a blanket.) It had been her companion. As if to say, "LOOK, I AM AN ASHE."
At least, that's what the message inside the egg had said to Fumei when B'El had hatched.
"So, it's finally about time I take you out and you fall asleep on me. Great." Fumei sighed. It wasn't exactly easy to take care of a baby. Thankfully, she knew someone else who was more experienced with taking care of babies, and her mother had shown her how.
Other than that... to take care of the Ashe, she decided to see if there was anything B'El would like... only to see the Ashe was hugging her half-constructed egg, asleep.
"Man, what's so magical about Ashe anyway?"

"... and you might want to pick up a space heater for it, while we're out here," Julien was saying to Wapasha, as the two walked comfortably around the mall. "If it needs this much heat now, imagine what'll happen when it comes out!" He chuckled, then blinked, drawing to a stop as his eyes caught sight of dark hair and two baby hands clinging to eggshell.
He stood staring for a moment, then began to smile slowly, reaching out and catching Wapasha's arm as he tugged the man along. That was an Ashe. He could feel it in his bones... And if that was an Ashe, then it was one he hadn't yet met. "Hello," he said, when they reached close enough that he wouldn't have to raise his voice. Shy was one thing Julien was NOT!

Wapasha snickered helplessly as he followed along after Julien. He'd learned already that it was best just to let Jules do as he liked and follow along after to watch the fun. "Hello," he echoed, grinning at Fumei and the child in the stroller. He was carrying his own egg... inside a heated, insulated lunch bag. It was better than the basket, at least!

When B'El heard another voice that wasn't Fumei's, she immediately opened one eye and hugged her eggshell so hard, it cracked some more.
Good thing babies didn't know so much about self-preservations for eggs.
Fumei blinked as the white haired teen called out to her stroller. Or rather, the B'El in the stroller. @@ Geez, how many kids and adults knew about these things anyway? But then again, she was a teenager herself so...
And who the heck was his best friend? Maybe they were 'good guy' Ashe. Fumei looked at the remnants of the egg shell and wings that B'El held. B'El was definitely not a 'good guy' ashe. Or at least, that's what it looked like.
So when Fumei looked at Wapasha and saw lunch, she wondered if they were Ashe or guardians. Or just some omnipotent being who knew all.
B'El was growing impatient. "Waaaah!" She cried for attention.
Fumei sighed and smiled. "Hello. Sorry for the fuss..." Fumei picked up B'El and bounced her up and down in hopes of quieting her.

Julien just chuckled, nodding at Fumei as she cared for B'El. "Sorry," he said, utterly sincere in his apology, though he was still smiling. "I didn't mean to wake her." He paused, then blinked, the grin strengthening as he dug into his pocket to pull out a small, plastic bag that held a few squares. "If it's okay with you, I made these. They're shortbread cookies. You or she could certainly have them, if you like. I've got more at home." Of course, why he carried tiny squares of homemade shortbread wasn't explained.

"It's best to just not ask why he carries cookies around like that," Wapasha added. "I'm Wapasha Spencer and this is Julien Lemieux. He's the Ashe, not me." He reached out, solemnly offering his pinkie to the little girl to toy with.

B'Elanna giggled happily, happy to receive other attention than from her guardian. Besides, these were different people, and they seemed troublesome enough... or at least fun-loving enough.
Fumei sighed at her ward, wrinkling her nose. "I'll never understand babies, let alone non-human ones." She sighed once more, and smiled to the two new visitors. "It's alright. She's stopped crying, since she's found a new toy to play with."
NOMNOMNOM came the sounds out of B'El's drooling mouth.
"And she's probably happy to put her teething mouth to work." She smiled to Wapasha. "So like," the teenager snapped her gum. "What's an ashe?"

The question, so casually asked amidst snapping gum, made Julien choke just a little. But rather than laugh, he dropped down to squat near B'Elanna, offering her a pale but work-roughened hand. "We are," he said, when he was certain he wouldn't laugh along with it. "She and I. There are a few of us out there now," he added, looking up at Fumei. "As for what we are... I'm still working that one out myself."

Wapasha pulled the egg out of the bag, feeling his hand instantly warm up from the heat it radiated. "This is also an ashe," he said, grinning. "I'm guessing yours also came from an egg? I have to admit, it isn't the strangest thing I've ever heard of."
