lip slurs really helped my high range. practicing on centering notes and using a constant air stream.
Try going through chromatic fingerings in lip slurs
like um.
Start at c below the staff, then go to g and c in the staff. then go back down.
Am I explaining it well enough? :B
okay here::
(Fingering) (Note Names)
Open...........C.....G....C.....G......C
2.................B.....F#...B.....F#.....B
1.................Bb...F.....Bb....F.......Bb
12...............A.....E.....A......E......A
23...............Ab...Eb....Ab....Eb....Ab
13...............G.....D.....G.....D.....G
123..............F#...C#...F#...C#...F#
uhhhhhhhhh.... yeah. I would put it into a music program or make a recording so it would be easier to understand, but I don't have a way to make either. I'll think of some better way to explain it if this doesn't help. XDD

I've been playing 5 years. The previous poster was right with Lip Slurs, I did those everyday throughout middle school and it really helped me. Other than that start with a D and hold it for as long as you can, then do that with each note higher, you'll be able to hit higher notes and the ones that seemed high before are a piece of cake to you now. 3nodding

Unonamous This is my 3rd year playing the trumpet and i'm a freshman in high school. I'm pretty good which is what people tell me. If you're trying to get a better tone all you have to do is spread out your lips more in the mouthpiece. For a higher sound put a little more pressure on your lips tighten corners and blow. Believe me i can play the F over the high C and i'm only a freshman. Damn. eek

Tighten your lips for high notes also I think that if you bring your trumpet up a tad bit it helps and like everyone else said about your diaphram stomach thingy. Compare it to singing. I've played the trumpet for 1 year with a bd then I quit I hardly ever play it now I play the sax currently

GraveyardSinger Thanx. biggrin Only thing is, I've been playing 3rd for the last two years. I can hit a couple higher notes now, but...yea >.< How well does the low note thing work? eek do long tones with the notes you can hit (after warming up) after a few days of that try and hit the next note up and do long tones with that...and so on and so on.

breathing exercises work, umm buzzing with music!! lol pinching your lips, posture, lipslurs [if you can go higher on lipslurs go higher just make sure your hitting the right note], at least pratice once a day or something. listening to other people play may increase your tone knowledge [or something like that] biggrin lol i dunno get some upperclassmen to help you. that's what i do .. i'm 8th grade and .. i can reach .. barely, triple e? 2 e's in the staff and one above. man i suck :[ oh well :]

I'm reading all this and everyone can at least reach a note above the staff-but (on a good day) I can only reach a D that is still on the staff!!! Suggestions?

GraveyardSinger I admit it. I suck. I've been playing trumpet since 5th grade. Now i'm a junior and I still cant hit high notes, have a crap endurance level, and I make freshmen look good. xd Tips, anyone? sweatdrop Actually, to hit high notes, you should practice your low notes or else you'll bust your chops easily. Also, just buzz on your mouthpiece whenever you can. That's all of the advice that I have but I hope it works out for you. Edit: Remember to breathe from your diaphram! That's what my band director always tells us. 3nodding

I think it's because I'm taking flute lessons. Hmmm.... you know that's a good inquiry. It depends on your mood probably. When I'm super happy and pumped up I can hit all them high notes but when I'm pissed and mopey I suck a**. XD
