Good Riddance can be easy for a beginner, but I wouldn't suggest it. It's easy for me, but not when I was starting to play guitar. But here are the best easy songs for a beginner I could think of:

Brain Stew
When I Come Around
Longview. (It's easy. Most of it is bass anyway. And the outro ******** rocks.)
Prosthetic Head
American Idiot
Ha ha You're Dead
Warning (EASY! Has no solo)

I second the Warning suggestion. It's probably the easiest Green Day song (or second to Brain Stew). Good luck with getting your new axe. 3nodding

A question (because I second most of these ideas, a lot of them were the first Green Day songs I learned to play) are you doing the vocals, and did you find a bassist and a drummer?

I had to do the same with my flute, I don't know which song you should play, but some advice.

-Don't try to be as good as the band, because they've played it 371264987296479516743 times and you haven't and your parents won't say "You can't have a guitar!" because you play a note or 2 wrong.

Since you like Sugarcult, I suggest "Memory" or "She's the Blade" REALLY easy songs...*nodds head* biggrin

And believe it or not... my first Green Day song was 2000 Light Years Away... and I can play Boulevard Of Broken Dreams... Basketcase... and Poprocks and Coke... which is very easy to do!
