Disruptive I know we have kind of touched on it lightly, but I'm making a thread about it... so.. Yeah! What is the exact definition of the word '******'? History tells us it was the name that the white man gave blacks, but they used it with derogatory intention. Some people say it means ignorant. Others say it just simply means a person of color. Also, take in account the word, '*****' is there a different between the two? Some say yes... that its another word of endearment or familiarity... Discuss: -The Definition of '******' -The Definition of '*****' -How the adaptation of the word came about. ****** - a contemptuous term for a black or dark-skinned person ***** - N/A

******: Used by cauccasians to put african americans down. Means dirty, uneducated, ignorant.
*****: Used black to black as a form of saying 'wassup bro?' or maybe saying 'wassup homie?' Means friend, bro, tight, saying it means your like family.

Quote: ****** >noun offensive a black person. -PHRASES a ****** in the woodpile dated a hidden cause of trouble. -USAGE The word ****** has had strong offensive connotations since the 17th century. Recently, however, it has begun to be used by black people as a mildly disparaging or ironically affectionate way of referring to other black people. Despite this, when used by white people it remains strongly offensive, and should be avoided. -ORIGIN from Spanish negro 'black'. This is the actual definition and it did from the spanish word negro. White people used as a way to say that we were nothing. Then In the 1970's- 80's. In the hollywood business it actually started to become a good thing to be a ******. The word ***** actually means the word *****, only that it sounds better than ******. So when it is used amungst colored people it is like we are calling our friends and family trash and saying that they are worth nothing. But somewhere that definition was lost in the black community and people like using it in place of words like man and dude. I don't like to use the word at all because of what it means. All I do know is down the line in the black community people felt that it was a good thing to be called a *****.

Despite what people say, both are offensive and I would rather not hear either of them used.
But from what I have heard a "******" is either a black person or a stupid (usually black) person. And "*****" is like a buddy.
Does anyone else find the word "negro" offensive? confused

Does anyone else find the word "negro" offensive? confused Heh. I don't like the word "negro," because it's so old-timey (unless you're speaking Spanish or something). I mean, there really is no reason to call anyone a "negro" anymore. Back in the day, black and white people alike would use that word to refer to black people. It's the 21st century...it's time we moved on past that. It's about as bad as using "Indian" to refer to Native Americans; but you know more people are guilty of that than are guilty of using "negro." neutral
